Golem (go-lem)
In Jewish folklore, an artificially created human supernaturally endowed with life.

Little disappointed with ANet upon seeing their Animate Flesh Golem. After questing in Perdition Rock, I noticed that those golems were tall and statuesque. They actually had a human shape to them. These flesh golems look like monsterous creatures.

If you haven't been to perdition rock, here's a flesh golem:

If you haven't seen the new animate, here's a pic of that:

They're two completely different species of creatures. It's kinda sad too, because I would've liked to be able to control the original ones.

Just, animates in general are disappointing. There are 3 different summons that use the Horror model, 1 fiend, and 1 golem. But the Golem doesn't look like a golem, so why not call it animate behemeth or something that implies a larger creature, but not to be confused with the Flesh Golems (Perdition Rock) or other creatures.

N E Rate,
that's my complaint. Anyone else see my point about the naming?

got nothing better to complain about? I see nothing wrong with the golem.
I do wish the bone minion/horror and vampiric horrors all had different looks so you can tell them appart. But the golem looks cool. I love it.

It's not the model I'm complaining about (as it does look cool), but it's the context of calling it a flesh golem when it looks nothing like a golem.

Golems are always humanoid in form. That looks nothing like a human.

Flesh bear sounds good.. or since it's a minotaur skin, call it Animate Minotaur Horror.

Although, it being a reskinned minotaur would explain why he moves so slow.

It has 2 arms, 2 legs, a torso and a head. That's humanoid.

People are startled by them regardless the first time that they see them on a mission. I get all kinds of reactions when I bring them on Tyria Missions. A monstorously tall golem would have been cooler, but you certainly can spot them in a crowd of minions....

Using a literal definition in a FANTASY context has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life. God if you only knew how many iterations of golems there are in some of the old school RPG's, I don't mean video games I mean pen and paper and dice games. Christ D&D is chock full of them and not all of them are necessarily human in appearance. The Bone Golemn for instance is often an amalgamation of different bits and pieces. By all fantasy definitions it is definately a golem. It is an artificial construct imbued with life and unnatural strength and resilience. At any rate it is still just a game and I like the flesh golem look. It's nasty and vicious looking. The sort of thing you expect to see tearing soeone's guts open and playing with their kidneys.

I had also expected it to look like the Flesh Golem we were all used to in Perdition Rock, but it was a nice surprise seeing a completely new look. I see your point Xenoranger, it may not fall under the "golem" category if there's a need to get that technical. (but is there really a need? ) I'd rather see an undead cow/rhino anyway.

Dang.. I wish I was on now. I actually wanted to take it to Northern Wall or some low level place in Tyria just to animate it for reactions.

Although, when I first saw it, I wasn't startled or anything. I was just like... "oh"... not much in summons really startles me anymore. I've played the Necro/Conjurer/Summoner in pretty much every game I've played. It's fun to over kill.

I just put the dictionary definition up there for a point of reference. Kinda expecting someone to retort with, "Do you even know what a Golem is?" or "Do you even know the definition of Golem?" Sometimes you get immature people saying stuff like that.

Either way, I don't mind the look, but the combination of look and name. OH well, I can live with it (especially since I capped it =p ).
Thread's point was to see if anyone else shared in my disappointment of the labeling.

Although, I'm wondering if they're going to add more summons for the next game? HOnestly, I would like the ability to reanimate players as zombies or something. Kinda a necro version of Ressurect/Rebirth/whatever, except they become zombified creatures that can use that player's skills, but degen if not attacking.

May sound silly, but I think a zombified Necro Rez skill wouldn't be half bad.

Little off topic, so.. sorry.

maybe it should be called 'Animate Bone Monstrosity.'

in any case, i was rather disappointed to see an "animate golem" for the necro. copying diablo2 necromancers FTL. :/

When I first saw it I tried to target and kill it. I thought it was one of the "afflicted". I like it though, hopefully it may give a few extra style points to the under-rated Necro's.

You take that back. They're not copying Diablo II.

OH, but I did hear they're adding Revive Monster in the next chapter.

They need to change the models by a long shot..

Minions = Undead Scarabs
Vampiric Horrors = Flying imp-ish creatures?
Golem = Original model
