Before Factions when recruiting most would like you to have a hall, cape, and GvG daily or weekly. Though now with alliances people without a guild want you to have an alliance with another guild else they don't want to join your guild. Now don't get me wrong I think alliances are great, but for those who don't have Factions yet and are trying to make a guild this just made it harder.
What's your opinion on this?
Did alliances just make building a guild harder?

Yes. You are just right.
Guilding got more complicated.
Possibly, the complication is worth the added gameplay. Probably not for everyone, though.

Indeed,I love the alliances, but making it harder to create a guild makes it mean current good guilds may be the only ones to stay in existence into the newer chapters to come.

in my opinion, alliance, is just keeping the small guilds, and often times the better guilds, small, and the big monster guilds in power, while often times, made up of worse players...
When guild wars came out.. people just wanted to be part of a guild. Then the need for nice capes and a guild hall was added. With Guild Halls, people wanted to be in a guild that did gvg/pvp regularly. After a while, people were only looking for guilds with rank 500 or better, or 60+ members
Now with factions comes the need for being in a full alliance, with 500k+ alliance faction... not to mention the fact that there are now requirements to join an alliance... your guild must have 50+ members, and your guild must have 50k+faction
So ya, making a guild is harder, if you care about having a good guild.. otherwise, it's just about the same in my mind

If you ask me it should be the guilds recruiting setting up what they want in and from the players and not the other way around. It's just odd how that is...

lol, we just got a load of random guilds together and told em to bring in faction. We got a full alliance and it worked, but i guess we just got lucky. We were already quite well off anyway (due to alot more luck)
If this is irrelevant then sorry :P

I agree a guild without an alliance may well find it harder to recruit, and many alliances won't want to take very small guilds...
However, there are thousands of guilds out there - I am not convinced that we need lots more. If you are the sort of person that wants leadership in a large guild, it is a lot easier to join one and prove yourself, rather than trying to start a large guild from scratch.
There is nothing to stop smaller guilds joining together and using that as a recruiting tool. Our guild is not small, but a number of our allies are, but we met them and liked them so were happy to join up with them. Not every alliance is after nothing but massive guilds to farm faction - some just want like-minded people to enjoy the game with.
