Questions about "mini-pets"

Hi,

I haven't played GW for a long time and just got back into it after Factions release. I've heard about the mini-pets and I have a few questions:

1) I have a character over 1 year old. How do I get one? Do I buy it from somewhere?

2) What are the different mini-pets? I've heard of things like dragons, Ruriks, trolls, charr etc. Is there a link to a page telling me what they are?

3) Do they cost gold?

From what I can tell, does Guild Wars just automatically dump a present into your birthday characters inventory? If that's the way it works, then the pet you get is random, right?

Miniatures are received via Birthday Presents or entering a Factions Collectors Edition Key. Each character will receive a present when that character is 1 year old (Type /age in game to see a characters age). Each Factions Collectors Edition Account will receive one special miniature. The miniature is an item which reserves one of your inventory spots. When activated, you can see a small duplicate of the corresponding monster following you everywhere.

* You will receive a Birthday Present on any character who is one year old.
* You may keep the present forever; it will not vanish later.
* You may trade, give, or sell away your present(s) / miniature(s). As with any other item, it will be removed from your inventory if you choose to do so.
* You will not lose a minature if you recieve one via trading and your character is under a year old.
* To activate or deactivate a miniature, double-click on it in your inventory.
* You can only have one miniature active at one time; If you activate a new one, the old one will deactivate automatically.
* Miniatures only show up in explorable areas.
* Miniatures do not have any effect other than looking nice. They cannot be targeted and they do not use any skill or have special abilities.
There are loads of diffrent mini-pets.

If you are interested in purchasing a Mini-Pet than you should head on over to Guild Wars Guru Auctions > Miscellaneous > Birthday Presents. There are tons of Mini-Pets for sale over there. I would just wait till the price goes down before I got one

Another question: (here, not to put up a new thread)

Why do everyone think the minipets come in different qualities (white, purple, gold etc.)? All I can think about the color differences is that they are intended not entirely as personal gifts but more as collectable money sinks/inventory clogs with a fluctuating market.

Ok, they are random and their rarity really does not affect anything, but, it's not like they are loot that you can farm for and eventually get a gold one to drop. If I receive a white one when my birthday comes, does that mean ANet does not love me as much?

And another thing. Do their appeareance rates have anything to do with their color; or a green one has as much chance of being given out to a char as a white one?

Perhaps the color mini-pet you recieve corresponds to the number of hours you have played on the character.

dumb question but what happens when your invent is full at the predetermined birthday time?

will you be awarded this present at the next time you have a free inventslot? Or just tough luck?

Don't count on that, since you get them when your character is 1 year old, everyone should have around the same amount of time spent.

No really, the character might be 1 year old but the hours spent playing it would be different from one person to another.

But anyway the pets are random, so it all depends on luck
