Locked out?

After doing sergio's quest to get to sail to cantha with my monk(prophecies), i thought i'd do some factions quests just to get the feel of he new areas/monsters. For some reason, i cant seem to get to any other towns/missions areas other than Kaineng Center and The Marketplace. Ive tried exploring, hoping to find another town and/or a mission area but i've seem to be locked out(portals have been closed of). Anyone know why and what i should do in order to proceed or if it's even possible?

exploring in factions is 'disabled' - dont expect any joy from venturing into a new area unexpectedly.

follow the primary quests to progress through the game - then the NPCs that are outside certain gates will be able to teleport you past them into the town.

hmmm.... i think ive pretty much done every quest u can get at kaineng center but none of them were primary. Did u miss something or someone? do i need to do a quest or 2 at lion's arch(cant we all get along?).

You'll find Factions is very linear, outside of choosing a faction and following that specific path. you cannot just go out and explore all over the place like in Prophecies without completing missions. And because of this, it will be very difficult to find people that want to explore with you because you need people that are at the same point, or further in the game as you. It's really very annoying what they've done just to get rid of running, and force people to play through the story. I don't like when games like this force me to do things they way the devs want me to. I feel constricted to doing the same thing as everyone else. This feels more like a linear action adventure game than a true exploration type game to me.

with that being said, am pretty much at a dead end or is there a way out for me with my prohecies char? is there a certain quest(s) that i need to complete in order to procede? Im sure its possible, ive seen prophecies pve monks in gvg use the new monk elites/skills.

I brought my monk from Tyria to Cantha as I'm sure many other thousands users did and you will have no problem completing chap 2 with a char from chap 1.
Could you be a little more specific on where you're stuck? There are minor quests outside kaineng and the market place but to proceed with the story you have to complete the primaries quests, which will eventually take you to Vizunah Square, the 1st adventure.

check ur Primary quests... they are 100% needed to go onward with factions.

Its all good now. The problem was i totally forgot to take the 'welcome to cantha' quest right after sailing to cantha from LA. Thnx all for your help.
