i keep seeing people saying they saw jade or amber in the rare material sometimes. so i went of and did a few things.

i come to the conclusion the reason why we see them there is because someone just sold that material to the trader. what i did was went to the rare material trader and sold 1 jade shard. and then went to buy and what did i see the jade i saw up for sale in the shop.

does this mean they get there stock of materials from us when we sell our materials to them.

I think it says right on the trader window that traders only sell items sold to them by players.

LOL. Yes, any items that the trader has were once sold to him by players. the reason they are only there occasionly is because people are buying them out... making a monopoly and reselling for higher values.

While I can on the surface believe that traders only sell what players trade to them - I have a somewhat sneaking suspicion that ANet has a very slow stock rate - perhaps one of each item every 30 seconds or so being added. Either that, or the trader item list is only updated every 30 seconds. It just seems to me that stock lists of out of stock items have a very small "creep" to them, only noticable to out of stock items. They do seem to regenerate because you can sit there and buy one at a time, every 30 seconds or so, if you have the patience to sit there and refresh.

Just a hunch though.

I believe that the traders restock out of stock items. I noticed this when Guild Wars Factions just came out. Everyone was buying the new Assassin Armor so the materials needed were out of stock. I was about to leave when I noticed all the materials suddenly appeared. I bought a couple of each than all became out of stock again. I waited between forty-five seconds to a minute later and they got a couple more of each of them. I am pretty sure someone wouldn't sell them to the Merchant during the beginning of Factions because people were spamming chat with ridiculous prices.

Examples:

Will buy all your tanned hide squares 75 gold per!
Will buy all your steel ingots 750 per!

There are lots of people who would rather play the game than sit around and spam the chat.

This is the very reason the Assassin and Ritualist runes are popping up now. Cept 1 amber seems a little unlikely. It normally shows up after a certain quantity gets in stock. So its listed for a little while at least... It may have just been the cusp of the limit to show up... Notice the NPC sells it for about 1.5k? Interesting no?

But alas yes. I too am one of those individuals that can not wait for the auction house system so I can sell a few things LEGITIMATELY. the spam on public chat is so bad it becomes almost impossible to play the game and get a PUGs. And now the dam bots are infiltrating Cantha... Man I hate that... I really wish someone would take them out and disembowel them for public display. Because of this I have refrained for selling ANYTHING. I typically just give it away to guildies instead, because that element of the game is so distasteful to me.

I mean last night for instance I saw so many WTSs in public chat I had to go to another district. the bad thing. ONLY 1 DISTRICT!!! and International was worse... The Trade channel is there for a reason use it for the love of God, Alla, Dwayna, or whatever you covet. USE the trade channel to spam your shite. So people can turn you off if they have no interest in buying so they can PLAY THE GAME!

I actually sold materials to the npc often the first few days. Not all at once but often throughout the day.

Yea, I bought and sold stuff to the trader. Bought to get my canthan armor, then sold the large quanties of the SAME EXACT material from monster drops right back. It annoyed me a little. Ah well, atleast I was doing it all in style. Male Ranger Canthan armour dyed silver looks nice.

I'm not exactly what you're saying here, but I experienced something similar.

A couple of nights ago, I was checking the price of parchment (still in the toilet, BTW), and noticed a piece of Jadite for 1.3K. I bought it, and after I did, there wasn't anymore. So either it was the only piece or a bunch of people were buying it at the same time.

i have tested this on accident, i sold an assassin minor rune to trader instead of a major (because for some reason the minors are around 400gp and the majors are dropping to around 100gp) and was able to immediately rebuy it back, and then the trader went out of stock.

if someone sells it to him, he has it, otherwise he is sold out, simple enough?
