Recurve/Composite Bow or LongBow???
1 pages • Page 1
I would just bring Favorable Winds and use a Flatbow. The refire speed of a shortbow with Longbow Range. Can't beat that with a stick. And I say Favorable Winds over Read the Wind because of Barrages removal of Preps. Plus by the time you need it again it's pretty much recharged and the spirit lasts forever.
Everything but a Flatbow is necessary in my opinion. I like to play without FW or RTW... I used to think it was a must but not anymore. RTW is probably standard in Spike, but then I enjoy a Horn Bow to start and the situation evolves often to the point a Short is just kickass.
Depends on your style of play, your role, the situation. I always carry a Long, a Short and a Recurve in most cases.
Pulling and staying back for a bit: Long.
Usual work, interrupting, crippling: Recurve.
Melee: Short.
Occasionaly, Horn Bows...
It's a matter of feeling and what you do. It's not about a bow superior to others...

Ever since Dragos Flatbow was made sub-par thanks to 10/10 been out of date (and useless anyway... but wth) i've become quite attached to Elsywths Recurve Bow.
Its been letting me use Kindle Arrows instead of Read the Wind for the first time in months. The Refire means little if your constantly spamming Dual Shot+Punishing Shot and other interrupts on every PvE monster that comes close enough. Fire damage > Jade Armours.
Does mean i'm a good interrupter (or spammer if you like
) though after using a flatbow w/ rtw for ages.
My record still stands at 253(ish) in 1 arrow in FoW with the flatbow though

flatbow seems to be all around the best in pve...but in pvp, it quickly drops out of my favor.
Horn - innate +10% AP for spiking
Recurve - laser-like arrows for interrupting/cripshot/poison
Long - fast arrows long range spiking
personally, I've yet to find a place for shortbow in pvp. And like said already, since spiking/interrupting has 1/2-1 sec fire time, and you can easily weapon-swap, refire rate is insignificant.
flatbow simply pales in comparison imo

I like Recurve bow for most everything. But, I carry:
Longbow - pulling
Recurve - Most everything else
Vamp shortbow - for close in work, and with Barrage.
I like the Vamp Shortbow a smidge better than Elswyth's just for the faster refire rate.
Also, my Recurve is +15% all the time with a -5 energy penalty. With an Expertise of 13 or higher I have no problem with energy management.

I read a post also in this Ranger section where times were tested using different bows with Barrage. In this test it was determined that using a shortbow did make it a bit faster, thus more damage accumulation. I carry 4 bows; Short, Recurve, Long, Horn. They are all modded for my skill selection. I feel no need to duplicate bow types.
Hey FyrFytr998, where are you a Fireman. I am a Columbus, Ohio professional Firefighter, Local 67.
Thus my handle: Dr. (paramedic) Fire (Firefighter)

^ Hey Evil, you still looking for a flatbow with a Pruning mod? I'm cleaing out my strongbox.
^^same thread that pointed out shortbow/flatbow was fastest barrage also pointed out that while under the effects of Tiger's Fury the Hornbow turned out the most damage of all the bows (barraging)....so it shouldn't be ignored either!
Read about it here:

-EDIT-
Whoops the info for Tiger's Fury was found here (Jenosavel ran the calculations):
