*For the proposes of this thread, "faction" refers to either Kurzich or luxon faction, not balts*
Theres been a huge influx of threads in Q/A concerning Kurzich or Luxon faction and its effect on your experience, your guilds, and your alliances.
Fact: Despite how Anet promoted the uses of the factions, It actually doesn't effect very much at all
people are assuming this great divide and take the faction way to seriously.
Heres a rough list of what having more [A] faction than [B] faction does to your game. (not using Kurzich or Luxon so I am not ID'ed with one or the other).
-Merchants, Traders, Crafters, and Alliance related NPCs will not talk to you in [B] cities.
-Therefore you can only enter alliance battles on [A]'s side since [B] alliance NPCs will not talk to you.
Thats about it.
Some FAQ:
Q: How can I do [B]stuff if I'm in [A]? I feel as if I am only getting half a game by having to pick a side.
A: Even when you have more [A] faction, you may still go into [B] cities and outposts and do Missions and Quests. Who you have more faction with doesn't effect much of what content you can do.
Q: I want to be [A] but my dumb alliance choose [B], am I royally screwed? It makes me want to quit the game cause I dont have freedoms.
A: Your personal choice of sides is not effected by your alliance's. All it will effect is that you cannot donate your [A] faction to a [B] alliance, and you won't be able to use the alliance battle NPC in the guild hall.
Q: My alliance is torn apart between greedy people that want amber/jade and people that want to help the alliance's standing. I hate this situation. (Hey! thats not a question)
A: Currently, Standing is only used to control towns, and there are huge faction farming alliances that work very hard to keep towns under their lock. This has cuased faction to control to go into the millions for the good outposts. Unless your alliance plans on joining one of these huge faction farming rings, I'd just tell everyone to get amber/jade. All Standing will do to a small alliance is boost personal ego (since you cannot even show how much you have to other alliances that I know of, unless you control a town and they read it there).

I’ll expand your FAQ with a personal story. I have been to every town in the game already, both Kurzick and Luxan and this is my experience. My first trip to Unwaking Waters (kurzick) was with guildies. I did a majority of the NPC given quests just for the experience that they offered. At some point after I killed Shiro I decided I wanted all the Luxan towns as well, so I spent off all my Kurzick factions on amber and headed over to Cavalon. As the only way to spend faction is in 1000 or 5000 intervals I had about 800 Kurzick factions still on my account when I reached Cavalon. Because I had more Kurzick then Luxan factions all of the service NPCs (exception of storage) would not talk to me as I was not a friend. I was able to take every quest that was offered. The moment I had more luxan factions then Kurzick the NPCs talked to me again, on that same note the Kurzick NPCs no longer would talk to me. I reached the 10K Luxan mark and proceeded to Unwaking Waters (Luxan) and all points in-between. I have since then rejoined the Kurzicks after selling off all my Luxan factions for Jade.
Both sides of the map are fully explorable and open to anyone. I hope that this testimony is enough to dispel any fears in those who have not reached this far yet. BTW I beat Shiro the Friday night after the game came out. I miss the days I could walk around in House because I was the only one there, now the lag is horrible.

Even some partys left me for dead, just cos i had to map out and sell stuff.
Really there is no point in what they have done here with the merchants, traders, crafters.
The best bit, is if your guild is allied to a faction and say you make 10k of that faction and hand it in to the faction transfer, end up with 0 faction for both factions they wont talk to you either,i was like wtf how can you say im not your friends i just spent 10k faction with you and you removed my faction from the other side as well so basicly you refusing to speak to me now and you just stoped me from speaking to them.
The mind boggles to what Dev's at anet are thinking sometimes, i get visions of half asleep dev's walking round, just saying yup to anything anyone else says.
