Competitive missions (Aspenwood & Jade Quarry)
Krill
I am just bringing my second character through the game, and I thought why not do the competitive missions to get my 10k faction this time instead of those boring quest? So for the last three days I have been playing Ft. Aspenwood pretty regularly from both sides and I have few complaints that i'm wondering if anyone else has experianced.
The first, and the biggest, is that people can join the mission, do absolutely nothing, and get like 300 free faction, and believe me they do. You see the same people over and over again just afk doing a big fat nothing.
Second is that the missions are both tipped in favor of a side. The Luxons can win Aspenwood easily by healing or bonding the turtles and there is not a whole lot the other side can do unless they make a very coordinated attack to take out the monks and then the turtles...GL with that in a pick up group though. I have not even been able to do Jade Quarry yet because the Luxons simply are not doing it because they know they have the advantage at Aspenwood, which is the first stop on the map for people who randomly decide to do it.
Third I believe faction should be awarded by player kills rather than a lump sum for winning or losing...it would make it more interesting. No this is not real PvP but it is very fun and i'd like to see more good players doing them.

I agree with you fully on this. I can't wait to see how this ends up.
In any case, the missions ARE still fun.

Thse missions are great fun, and the main reason I continue to play till 12v12 is sorted out.
The Jade Quarry does need more people there yes, and AFKers shouldn't be given any faction at all.
I just hope A.net adds more of these types of missions in since objective gameplay is great.

Oh I also wanted to mention that they need to make the introduction the the mission more obvious...first few times I did it I had no idea what was going on and then i realized that it was all layed out in the mission outpost and you could use the minimap as well.

Interrupt the turles. That will stop them dead in the track + usually the 4 warriors and often a monk healing the statue of a turtle. That will leave 7 members of the Kurzick team free to do whatever they do out there.
And if the Kurzicks have 2 good heal/prot monks the architect is almost unkillable even if the Luxons are ganking him.
Add to that that the Kurzick resurrects on top of the main chamber.

Yuo Can Do It!
If people ONLY got factions for kills - nobody would want to monk, and you'd start seeing Kill Stealing, which this game tried, or is trying to, prevent.
Count to Potato
Thats why Aspenwood is uselss and jade isnt, they should make it even, and have a anti afk system

I think that Arena Net should make it so when you enter Jade/Fort you need to type the letters and numbers that appear on your screen. I know they do this in many text-based games to prevent bots. Obviously the letters and numbers would be random.

The cannons from the Turtles should be like GvG catapults: Damage your own team and you need one to use it.
If people cant see the unfairness(?) of Fort Aspenwood then they havent played it much. I really enjoy it, but Kurzick loose too much to actually call it 'fair'

Not a kill as in, you get the kill you get the faction, your team would get 10 faction or whatever.

You know, that is a pretty easy idea. Just make it so you have to speak to the NPC, say "I'm ready and enter 4 random number son the screen" then the timer starts.
Stop silly AFKers and of course future Faction bots.

I really enjoy it, but Kurzick loose too much to actually call it 'fair' A week ago the Kurzicks lost all the time mainly because the teams consisted of 6 assasins and 2 ritualist, in which at least half of the people had no clue what to do.
I do 4-6 Aspenwood a night (as a Kurzick) and win more than 50% of the times. The teams are more balanced and people seem to know what to do.

One problem with jade quary is that even if you win, you get less faction than losing aspendwood. Which to some people, it is outrageous. Supposely, jade quary also last shorter, hence the less faction.

I really enjoy it, but Kurzick loose too much to actually call it 'fair' All you need is one monk to win fort apsenwood as kurzick. Simply take lifebarrier, lifebond, and life attunement. Then hide behind the last gate and prot up the elementalist. Treat him like a sorrow's furnace tank. You only need a few healing spells and he will be essentially unkillable. The enemy has no way to hurt you and 95% of the time there will be no enchantment removal on the other team.

Glee, was bored enough to try out these, did couple of rounds on Jade Quarry on my monk. Assassins are funny, Signet of Midnight + Diversion + /taunt, continue healing teammates.
People seem pretty clueless most of the time tho, running around in random directions and usually not paying attention at all to the Quarries. Prolly have to dig my way to the aspenwood-thingy and try it out tomorrow.

question: are those two, plus the one you can enter from guild hall the only objective pvp missions?

Even funnier is hitting them with Empathy as they blitz a bonded turtle. You'll kill 50-60% of Wammos like this, but Assassins are in the 90s.

I see the Aspenwood mission a bit unbalanced (not whining)!
I find the turtles owerpowering, especially with a monk babysitting them (+5 Luxon thumpers) while the Luxon MM really leads the assault. Whoever cries about MM nerf, he should really see MM's performing in Aspenwood - his armies are likely to tip the scale (more people can babysit turtles) and you'll have a hard time to gank him, since he can consme corpses or feed off his minion or gaze you. And there are a lot of corpses on somewhat small battlefield.

The only missions i have Master's reward on at the moment (I still haven't finished the game) is Minister Cho's Estate and Tannahkai Temple.

We got rolled by echo SS spam and noone to remove it - we were like all composed of Sins and Wammos...

My ranger primarily does Fort Aspenwood, and I'm proud to say my team wins more than 75% of the time. All I do is interrupt the turtles everytime and use degen(alternate between Apply Poison & Melandru's Arrows), and run Amber occasionally with Storm Chaser and Dodge, and it's gg Luxons. Not to mention Rangers can single-handedly take out Luxon Priests and Commanders... but I'm sure others classes can too.
What really annoys me are MMs and the Luxon Warriors. I can't even imagine how powerful MMs would be on this level if they weren't nerfed. As for the Luxon wars, they just SWARM you... it's scary. One time two of them completely flattened me in two seconds when I only had half my life left. Didn't even stand a chance...

This was an awesome tactic. Saw one monk do this, and the Luxon team simply COULD NOT break through that gate. Then again we were just fortunate enough that they didn't bring enchant stripping. =/
As for the Jade Quarry, my poor Ranger hasn't done one yet.
The place is like empty or has less than eight people everytime I go there.

I only tried Aspenwood once so far, but we totally demolished the opposing Luxon team. Was quite fun - but I felt bed killing those turtles
All we had to do was keep interrupting them.... The fun of playing as a Warrior really came into play in this mission. Little Assassin's and Necros trying to run away from your Chaos Axe make you feel so good
I think the thing that helped is the group actually stuck with a plan - we overtook everything very quickly
Maybe I just played against a group who didn't know what they were doing, but was still fun... oh and I did notice a couple AFK fools.
