W/E knockdown in PvP too strong?
guppy
I was playing pvp, although im not a big fan of it much anymore, but I have come to realize that there are some things that just seem out of place. I play as a monk usually, and I admit im not a great one.
However, I found that on several occasions, the skillset or my combination of skills were of little relevance to a warrior/ele knocking me down.
I gave this a bit of thought, but I really don't see how being knocked down continuously (without the ability to cast a spell) should really exist. It isn't overpowered in damage, I admit, but it isn't something that is very fair in terms of being a monk. I can't see how to heal (in a 4v4 match) when I can't cast. It isn't really like blackout since the other side also has someone without their skillset, but isn't there enough damage spikes and hex's and conditions that one monk must deal with asside from being helpless to another form of combat?
Anyways, without falling offtopic to the post, I would like to know what others think of this, and perhaps if there are counters to the hammer warrior with shock (since there are more than just the warrior attacking at that moment)?

Clinically Proven
A few things that will help you out:
* When that warrior starts making a line for you, start running
* Have someone take Ward of Stability and/or Ward Melee in your build
* Take a mesmer or necro with lots of warrior hate
* Go Mo/W with balanced stance
* Aegis/Guardian

When you see a warrior running at you, just cast prot spirit, and if you can, throw in a guardian. He will have to hit you at least 10 times, and I doubt he can keep you knocked down for that long. All there is too it. Sometimes, though, it's impossible if 2-3 are taking turns knocking you down, 4v4 can be hell for monks, without someone to back them up.
EDIT: CLinically posted a split second before me.
*Hard to kite if you are knocked down.
*Not many people bring Ward of Stability or WfM in RA/TA since he is asking in regards to 4v4.
*Warrior secondary doesn't provide any means of gaining back energy (MoR/Energy drain/inspired hex/drain enchant etc...)

It would be nice if there were more ways to resist knockdown, but there are some already.
Besides that, Shield of Judgement is a bitch on an entire group of attackers, you can put a knockdown on him for every day of the week in the hits it takes for him to gain adrenaline. But I realy think this is a sign that you need to become good friends with an elementist, and appreciate some powerful warding.

I'd say run away, but with Factions we now have skills like "Coward!" and "None Shall Pass!"
I like that we now have Ward of Stability, but I still wish there were more ways to resist the most powerful (and spammable) interrupt in the game.

It's honestly not that diffucult to beat being knocked down. In some cases it may require teamwork, but hey, it's a team game.
Although powerful, it's absolutly nothing like Gale was.

Remember that there's no 1 vs 1 pvp option in GW and this is for a reason. The question is not if a monk vs knockdown warrior has any counter measure, it's if your team can manage an opposing team with such a character. I could also complain that playing knockdown warrior those damn monks never seem to die, but it isn't so. Every class has something that can be annoying and very difficult to remedy, this is by design.

Should blinding flash be nerfed because a warrior can be blinded 24/7 by an ele using it?

Oh and in random arenas they will ALWAYS go for the monks first, for some reason monks have magnets stuck on their butts. So, if you hate being knocked down by them all the time, go play something else rather than a monk, something that messes him up bad.

Kiting sometimes works even less vs a KD warrior, specially in RA/TA, its just too easy to wind up flat on your back from Bulls Strike/Charge. You could always go for Bonettis Defence?
Thats an energy source and as long as your attacking the warriors when you get chance, theres a fairly decent chance you'll have enough adren before they do. Gale/Shock i think you'll just have to suffer.

I'm enjoying auspicious parry/ bonetti's defense. They can't touch you in melee, energy up the caboose, free adrenaline. Good times. Many people also use balthazar's spirit for the adrenaline/energy too.

I once had a mesmer in a RA team with sympathetic visage. We never lost....

Learn to kite/pre-kite Warriors, thus slowing their adrenalin gain and how many hits you take. Have them selected when you are kiting so you can see if they have activated an attack skill, and hit Reversal/Prot Spirit in time. Use guardian.

Hey, thanks for the replies!
Just to respond to a few posts however,
I do understand that 4v4 requires 3 other players, of course, but not everything works your way and warriors aren't usually the first targets. What I mean to say is during a difficult time, I just found knockdown very tough to deal with without specific skills to counter it, meaning my skillset has to be even tighter. Kiting, I need to get better at, i'll definately try to bring some anti-melee skills too. I wouldn't want to be monk/warrior just to avoid warriors because it really doesn't help besides a very limited number of skills.
I'll try what was suggested, and a prob I find is that warriors build up thier adrenaline well before they go take off after me. I just never wanted to kite much in 4v4 because it left my team without a monk for a bit. I'll try bringing guardian, I think its just probably my skillset and kiting. Thanks.
Oh, just another question while the thread is active, is team speak really that essential in team arena?

Also, Ventrilo is so much better than TeamSpeak it makes baby jesus cry. If you just want to run your team on it, you can download a free server for up to 8 clients.

Knockdown is extremely powerful, but W/E knockdown is no longer overpowered (ok gale was totally out of hand.) While knocked down you have the option of activating an evasion stance or queueing up a spell to cast when you get up. You will be able to get off a 1/4 cast before the next knockdown (so RoF or Divine Intervention can save you.)
He's right, voice chat really is that essential. My suggestion is start by using it with guildies or friends. You'll get comfortable with it if you use it with a set group of people. Occasionally you will run into a raging jerk, but the truth is no one likes him.
