Sound issue

Whenever I set the audio quality (the scroll bar in the manu) to the max, I have no music. But I still can here the effect sound, like sound of fighting, walking, etc. I have no problem when I set the quality lower than max. Does anybody else have the same problem? I have a Creative Audigy2 ZS sound card.
And I didn't have this problem when I was playing Prophecy.

I'm not sure that i'm fully understanding your problems here. When you set the sound quality to maximum, in prophecies you had both the ingame sounds and the background music, correct? Now in factions this no longer works, as you can only hear the ingame sounds with the quality settings on max.

Audigy 2 ZS, have you installed the newest Creative sound drivers? While making sure to get rid of the old ones in the process. I'm not seeing so much as where this is a problem, honestly. As with your music up very loud your going to have to either adjust the volume of the ingame sounds, or the music. Making one or the other less noticable, and I also wonder how much better the sound of a sword clashing can sound...lol.

I'm not sure if its a bug in the game, or something they manually changed. As one would think to achieve maximum sound quality you would need no background interruptions, like that of other music sources. Though I may be wrong.

My problem is that when I adjust the quality to max, I don't have any of those theme music, even the one at the beginning of the game where you choose which character you are going to play. What I have to do is to go into the game without any music and adjust the quality bar to a lower setting and terminate (yes, log out doesn't work) the game and restart the game. Then those theme musics will come back.

When I don't have those theme musics, I still have the sword slashing, fire ball blasting effect in the game.

Ah, ok. I was misunderstanding you then, sorry about that. Sound problems, atleast in my experience, are more trial and error than anything. I suggest:
  • Reinstall Audigy 2 Drivers
  • Reinstall GW
  • Change PCI Slots and Test
  • Try different speakers
  • Test the Audigy 2 in Another Computer

Thats all I can think of right now, hopefully its nothing major, I tried to kinda go in a least to worst order, in case it is something smaller. In hopes you won't waste too much time if it is something small.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try them.
But for reinstalling GW, can I copy and paste that hugh single data file to the new installation. I don't want to reload thousands of files again for anywhere I go in the game.

Here is a link from creativelabs that will autodetect what you need and download them automatically.

And try also updating to the April 2006 version of Direct X 9c.

As well the options Lurid mentioned

I have an Audigy2 ZS too and only started noticing problems very recently, like yesterday, so I suspect it's either an MS update or a patch of Anet. Never had any noticeable problems before and I started playing GW when it was launched last year.

What happens is I cannot hear the sound effects, either that or they sound very muted...definitely not normal.

Someone told me ingame the solution is to lower the sound quality to medium. Did that and it apparently solved the issue, though my sound quality is no longer maxed.

Yes, anything above Medium on the slider is basically buggy as hell. This problem started a few months back and has not been fully fixed. I have my doubts as to whether it ever will be fixed.

You have to exit the game fully and restat whenever you move ths slider, even if you're just putting it back where it was. This is an undocumented fact that I learned the hard way. But if you put it dead center and restart the game, you more or less have the same sound engine that GW had before its "update."

I have an A2ZS also, by the way, so I know your pain, as far as getting crappy sound on such a fine piece of hardware.

OK, I'll just leave it in the center. Actually, I only updated the sound card drivers about the time of the FPW and it actually sounded great, better than before with the older drivers. So I'm not sure why this problem suddenly occurred, which is why I suspect a recent GW patch or MS update did it. I only noticed a problem yesterday.
