.... Conjure Nightmare is 25 nrg and barely worth half of that. You simply can't sustain the use of this skill w/o massive nrg management. You will need smth like Glyph of (Lesser) Energy. Also Recurring Insecurity isn't worth the elite slot at all- a pain to maintain, too little degen, easily outperformed by non-elite skills. I would take some stuff from Necros like PBond (cover/heal), Faintheartedness (greater chance to trigger IoR damage), Vile Miasma (nice degen if you put a condition like DWound on target- which you can easily do with Phantom Pain or Cume Pain), etc. Overall I think you are going for new skill hype not functionality.

This is a neat build for both random 4v4 and 8v8 battles. Mantra of Persistance more than doubles the length of your hexes, meaning crip anguish/migraine lasts 39 seconds, Phantasm 25, Pain, 20, ethereal, 20 seconds. The other skills are there for energy management and general annoyance. You can slap 10 degen on a warrior quite happily, and then snare him for an eternity. He will never forgive you. In fact, Phantasm and Phantom Pain are enough to kill the majoity of opponents assuming they dont get any self healing
On somebody with 485 health, (25x5x2)+(20x3x2)+ 90 approx = 250+120+90=460 dmg. Thats 460 dmg with 2 hexes, plus a few wand attacks, and bam, if they cant heal, they are dead.

It double-triggers soul barbs when another hex is applied, causing 50+ dmg per hex from barbs. That's the best use of it, to spike with a huge storm of hexes.

Did you decide on the best new elite for degen mesmer then ? (obviously migrane). Any new factions illusion elites worth using instead of migrane ?

Shadow shroud, soulbarbs, recurring, conjure or whatever from 3 me/n, 1 me/a as a spike.
Then application of about ~8 more quick hexes (and accumulated pain for deep wound), followed by 2 foc as spike. It hurts
Best counter I can think of is infuse or goh on the monks while someone uses convert...
