Losing Self in GW
Lilac Illyria
Hey, have you guys felt that sometimes (okay... well maybe more/less than sometimes) that the game IS your life?
How important is Guild Wars to you?

For some reason I predict that this thread will be closed, if only because I say so.
And uh..
yeah. Considering I am pretty much sick of Gw at this point, I'd say its very much like normal life to me atm.

Guild wars is great on my bank account Do you understand how much car parts are??lol This game is great and i love to play it, it also saves me money. I used to buy loads of stuff dealing with my car, not counting blowing them up GW is something else to do and cheaper. I have never played a online game before but now i cant stop playing it for some reason. Some people have other hobbies and thats great for them. I have done all the other not so good things in life and choose not to do them anymore. I love how people say "get a life", who the hell are they to tell anybody what to do.

GW is great on my bank account too! Haha, I'm just wondering how crazy I am because... well I've done things like call in sick to work because I'd rather play gw than live my crummy life sometimes lol

As a gamer I used to buy about 2 games per week, after buying guildwars last year I havent bought another game and a few days ago got factions. Guildwars is all I got to have fun with and friends of course.

My partner does contract work around the globe, and lately quite a bit in areas around the Middle East. GW is an excellent vacation from worry, and then when Eric's home for however many weeks, I have an excellent vacation from GW.

Can't say i've ever lost myself in GW before. My PC setup is not very special and my life is quite situational so im always aware that im just playing a game. My point is its not easy to get immersed in a game when your graphics card is messing up and you get a yonger brother constantly pestering you!
cangeman
I don't think I can get to that point with a game. I have good friends who'll smack me down to reality

i love GW.... thats how i deal with my shopping intense after (and) raving habits ...

GW, eats up my spare time. If GW sucked up my whole life, I would drink posion.

GW gets any spare time that I have... which isnt too much :P I can't see myself getting lost in GW, that and after 2 hrs at the PC my eyes get irritated :P If GW became my life... hmmmm poison sounds good Iunno if u enjoy it THAT much... I guess w/e :P I just cant see myself being so captivated that I want to sit 3+ hrs a day playing any game :P

OK, it really isn't healthy, I know this from experience. I have such a bad video game addiction, I'd go to meetings if they had them. Back when I was in high school, Diablo was the current drug of choice. I played that game hardcore for 6 months straight. When Diablo 2 came out, I was in college, and eventually dropped out because I was lagging so far behind to play it. Not kidding here, I dropped out of college to play a video game!
Not proud of that, and pretty much vowed that from then on, I wouldn't get that engrossed in a game ever again. It's just unhealthy. It can really ruin your life, and it's so easy to do. I'm still addicted, and my current addiction is GW, but I limit myself. I get out of the house as often as I can, I go to work, I have control of my life.
Don't let Guild Wars control your life.

I've had my 'addiction' phase with MMOG's. My first MMOG I played for 6-8 hours every single night. Yes, every single night for 2 years (the addiction there was probably worse than a lot of other stories... I have an 'addictive' personality can't help it ). I remember vaguely thinking to myself during that time that I was just wasting my life. Played it for another year slowly scaling back and then just quit. Since then I have never truly played that much.
Okay, admittedly with the release of factions I've been playing pretty hardcore but it loses it's luster faster for me. Not because I don't like the game, or I think it has problems... but because I snap back faster and stop.
I've heard some pretty sad stories of internet addiction, just saw one on Yahoo where a 13 year old played for 36 hours straight on Warcraft III then jumped off a building stating he wanted to be exalted with his characters. Of course the parents are suing (let's not get into the discussion of WHY they were letting their kid play the game for 36 hours straight). But Internet Addiction is something very real and it only seems that asian countries have begone to acknowledge and are starting to address it.
Maybe that was a little bit too in depth for what the OP wanted but yes... it's always important to take a step back from any hobby/addiction/game.

i can some up my guild wasrs gaming experience in every aspect of why I play it in 3 words:
I Love Money
I Love Money
jestx
Pre-ordered factions and got 2 characters through the campaign in a week or so. Kind of bored of it now. Was hoping there'd be more to do, but to be honest I often find the challenge mission cities in deep luxon/kurzick territory to be ghost towns.

great game, it has gotten in the way of school, but im barely squeezing by with A's... an A is an A so im still happy... and summer is coming up which is a plus... but yes, i will say that while loving this game can be problematics, i have been saving money... and that actually is freakin awesome!
Zakarr
I delayed my graduation to create enough time to play Factions.

Guild Wars - No, gaming in general is my life. Considering I have no life (no job, no vehicle). When I'm not gaming, I'm either in school or something else that I'm forced to do.. Or the occasionally rare hang out with friends and do stuff.
Although, GWF is a little bit of a disappointment, it isn't as boring as Prophecies, yet..

Yeah, its gotten to the point where I have (only once, NEVER again) turned down hanging out with friends to play GW...

HOXMAN
I work nights so i would sacrifice sleep to play GW a little while longer.. and the lack of sleep leads to less time w/ friends.. BUT i'll be working days soon and then i'll have enough time for both friends and GW

If you are blowing off real life obligations for recreation of any kind you are being irresponsible, and -blaming- it on a game or anything for that matter is just a way of projecting guilt so you dont have to accept your being a slacker.
It could be worse, your habit could be drinking, gambling, organized religion, etc.

I have 148 pc games and it cost me more than 6000$ to collect them for the past 5 years.Problem is that i stopped buying any new since i bought GW..playing it everyday after i get back from work

You can spend your time in the real world with all of its terrorism, crime, hunger, diease and politics or you can play GW. Its perfectly reasonable to play a lot.

I must say that games like guild wars can screw up your life pretty bad. Its just that if you concentrate too much on one thing then you go crazy. So do somehting else too, find yourself a second hobby, play a totaly different game, etc.
Seriously, people ask how somone can come home from work and play world of warcraft all night until he has to go to work again. If that person hasnt got anything else in life thats what he obviously is going to do.
I must add that todays youth doesnt bring enough variation in theyr live and so they get stuck on online games. I had 3 people in my school fail the year because they played world of warcraft the last 2 months of the schoolyear.
So kids, be careful with what you do and bring some variaty in your life.

Currently I'm in Germany right now and my laptop can't handle things like BF2 or anything else along those lines, but it can handle Guild Wars, so I play that when I'm in my room during study breaks. My studies haven't been hampered yet by it and I'm currently reading Blueprint for my Literature course. It's important to have balance in your life.
XBroken Faction
Yes it is but in a good way and i like it

gw no, gaming in general yes. I work in a games shop, my boyfriend who i live with is a gamer... and most of my spare time is spent gaming I've always been pretty anti-social so it's not a big deal for me; even as a teenager I never used to go out with friends (though i'd go walking with parents at weekends) so having online friends is ideal; i can appear offline in my anti-social moments and online when i wanna chat. Not only that but I can avoid all the stupid stuff going on in the world at the moment. what more could i ask for?

After all, I couldn't go and ignore The Sims 2, Civilization, Age of Empires, Galactic Civilizations, and all the rest. I'm partial to strategy games, but last year was fairly decent for gaming in general. GW has enough good competition to keep any one game from dominating my life, but if you put them all together, its a problem. I still maintain a 92% average, but if I actually did stuff like howework it'd be much higher.

i play GW alot, but most of the time it's to chat to my guild or a mate or two, not to actually play the game.

well, i mean, we all have 'addictions'. i'm curious about the whole marriage thing in games. i mean... what the heck? i noticed a couple of threads about it. to me, that is where i really draw the line. (plus, makes me feel a little more sane!)

I'm addicted but my parents keep me from playing too much and that is of course their job. I haven't skipped that much school for the game, only 2 times (though once was from internship) once was when PvE event was, and the second time was when Factions was released. Right now I'm trying to meet friends and such, but of course GW is something i really like to do!

1. In true mmo's, it adds to the roleplaying aspect; you forge a life for yourself and of course life involves love as well as death.
2. Some people do it coz they're bf/gf in real life; I personally never did but I do remember when I made a male char first in UO, my bf was complaining coz he'd wanted our chars to get married. haha. Sure beats risking it all in real life
