Which should i buy?

Okie which set should i get to be on track with the majority. I know that guildwars and guildwars:factions are stand alone set and getting either one of which could allow me to play the game but whats the differences between the two other than new lands and characters??? Will i lose out if i only get one rather than both?

heh... you lose out on a whole game if you don't get both. I'd personally recommend getting the Prophecies campaign (the first one) because it is a bit longer and more graduated- meaning the transition from fighting level one monesters to level 10 monsters actually has level 2-9 monsters in between to help.
I would also assume more people play Prophecies now. There are more quests and missions and skills do not have to be bought (money will be a problem when starting).

But i just thought out that im going to play the assassin and i assume factions only provides the character up for play. So how hard is it to level if im starting off from scratch with faction's mob rather than guildwars's mob?

If you never have played Guildwars before, i would get the prophecies campaign so that you can get a understanding of the game. I also want to point out that assassin's don't get much respect right now.

Get Prophecies (1st game). I have talked to alot of people in game about this and almost everyone prefers Prophecies when it comes to PvE because Factions is just to dam easy, but when it comes to PvP its the same almost. So, I would buy prophecies and just buy the Faction items off people. The Assasin and Ritualists are not going to be a dominant class so your not missing out.
