Does This Make Any Sence To You?
Leon_Ux-ixen
This weekend I was trying to sell a Katana for 10k. Itwas blue, 9require15^50. But this guy is like you noob it isn't worth that?!?!? I don't see why not it's the same weapon as a gold version just blue and does the same damage. Then he comes up "Noob it's rarer you trying to rip people off" Ok he was getting on my nerves. "What your telling me is the same as someone in a store saying that one spoon is better then the other when they are both mad of iron but one has polishing. You cna't argue with my logic." "You dumb noob that makes no sence you are dumb I can't belive i'm even talking to you." Thats not the point but it's to give a general idea of what this is about.
Ok why do people try to sell a weapon for 50k thats is just as strong as a 5k weapon you can get fro 5k. Color doesn't do or mean anything. Every person so far has yelled at me for daring to think outside of the pathic pricing box. Sad part is the most popular bonus is gone when you need whats the bloody point??? I tried buying a 15^50 bramble longbow. One seller said 150k and called me a noobfor saying it isn't worth that much another said 25k. So I went to ascalon and got one that had no bonus with 17%ernchant for 3k and modded. I plan to customize it. Why do people get mad when you think outside of the box. Are colors and useless bonuses really worth 100k+ and biting peopl's heads off? I thought of a pricing chart that I wish would be implemented so everyone can geta weapon a reasonable price.
Frist is the base which is what oyu pay for the weapon it's self.
Unmaxed= 1k
max-high require= 1.5k
Max require(8-10)= 3k
Then for the mods you add thier market value to hte weapons stand alone value to get a total. Then you if you'd like set a stand alone price for the bonus and bamb you got reasoanbliy price weapons. H
Bonus pricning.
15^50= 5k (drop 500gold pre point missing from max)
20>50= 5k
20(vs. hexed foes)=3k (drop 200 pre point missing from max)
20(while hexed)= 3k
15(while enchanted)= 3
15(in stance)=5 (500 pre point missing from max))
15(always)=10k (1k pre point missing for max)
With this simple system you can still get a nice sum of cash and some weapons may still get to 100k+ but for those that arn't really worth that much if you think about it, can be sold to other players for reasonable price.

There are people willing to pay for the color even if its not any different than a diffferent weapon.
And the skin of the actual weapon will make or break how much it goes for. A normal katana is not really a desired sword.

it is the fact that golds r more rare to get and ppl like the prestige of saying i have a gold 15^50 instead of saying it is a collectors item. i use the collectors items but also have a stock of gold weapons so it is all preference.
Ira Blinks
you right color is irrelevant if mod is good. But skin is important. Rare skin can add 100's of plat to the item value.
Opal Bridewood
Value of something is the amount people are willing to pay for it...if people desire gold lettered weapons then it will worth more. Can't see the problem with that
Leon_Ux-ixen
True the skin makes a difference. Like Dragon Hornbow. But serisouly 100k for just bramble Longbow is made, thats what I get for not having Factions >_<. I guys the famous saying applies to this issue. "It's only worth as much as the person's willing to pay"
Run Red Run
It's because Guild Wars is a Barbie Fashion Dressup game for some people. They care about the looks as opposed to the practical use of things.
I just buy clean weapons and add the mods I want...

Sense(SP) For the title of the thread.
Also people sell weapons for the mods or skins. Seeing max chaos axes for a million is just nuts. People price, prices at absurb ammounts.

Some people just don't understand...maybe it's because they're too young too, I guess.
When you get married, try explaining to your wife that a $100 Cubic Zirconia is the same as a $2000 diamond. See just how long your relationship lasts
There are people willing to pay more money for something that is rare rather than common. It's been that way since the beginning of time. Why is platinum more valuable than silver when they look exactly the same? It's because platinum is more scarce.
I hope you can use these analogies and compare them to a blue weapon vs. a gold weapon.

While gold text is still very nice to look at, if something is way overpriced I will get a new cheaper collectors item. The Desert collector's shield springs to mind.

Leon is trying to find a excuse to rip off newbies by buying something at the weapon npc and selling it at a higher price. Skin MATTERS in GW, Color MATTERS in GW and requirement MATTERS is GW, trying to find a reason to rip others off is not "thinking outside the box".
IMO this thread is stupid but no more than Leon.
BTW I would have used a lot more cursing words inside the game while explaining to Leon why he couldnt sell that kantana for 10k.

That said, what defines a weapon's price is the skin, the mods and the inherent mods. 15>50 is a damn good mod for a weapon. For an axe, you may say "Oh, but it's only 4 extra damage", that's true, but that's 4 extra damage per hit. Once you've got your perfect weapon set, customising it suddenly makes it 35>50, now it's doing 10 more damage per hit.
You're either lying or stupid if you think a white 6-28 req 9 axe is just as good as a gold req 9 6-28 15>50 axe.

My attention were not to rip off, just people are who are hung up on pixelized money freak out when someone dares to try something new, period. Get a life I play the game for what it is meant be played for "FUN" not to yell at people and have maybe 10years of fame that will be gone in like 20. It's hard to enjoy a game when you can't get anything without spending 100hours just to get single item. It's sad when the greed of people fallow into a game.
Was it wrong when I thought about it yes. That why I sold it for 4k and went to message the guy and say he was right but he ignored me. Funny I never insulted him once but he ignores me. The diamond ring was a bad example and sorry to say you sicken me for even writing that. I just posted an idea I got from a past issue.
It seem evertime i post sometime that mightmake life easier for everyone I get yell at by the people who farm, farm, and oh did I metion farm. When I post an idea it's to help the whole not just the rich.

And statistically, of course, it is.
But he was missing the point that people are paying for skins and gold letters. Collectors weapons are the strongest in the game (without mods, of course). Anyone paying for more wants the skin.

I think saying that Skin, text colour and req mean something is completely from your point of view only. And your point of view could never fully repersent the whole GW community in anycase.
People have often said trying to sell NPc crafted or collected weapons and wrong, but the fact of the matter remains there is nothing wrong with it.
I've sold collector's shields from the desert loads of times, I charge people for the worth of the item + the collectors items and time taken to collect them.
So really 10K for a collectors item which requires 5K + materials to make is a good deal. Sure it doesn't have your fancy gold letter or la-de-da rare skin, but it does the job doesn't? Also if it has the same requirements and stats as a gold item, what is the big deal anyhow?
During PvP I don't stare at people's weapons, I couldn't care less what weapon they have, I'm more focus on the match at hand.
Then again I do like to show off my perfect req 8 Gold Fiery Half Moon Bow of Fortitude (+15% dmg while enchanted) if people ask. But I also have a shortbow of the same stats, which was a blue collector's item! Which I was using before I found the Half Moon.
But at the end of the day both bows are completely the same!
Final comment on what you said, let me remind you that flaming is what is against the rules, also that swearing at anyone in game is not allowed. If you flamed me ingame for trying to sell a collector's item at a fair price, I'd report you.
Please repect others, and try them the way you'd like to be treated yourself.

To the OP: Value is subjective. Get over it. If you don't like the way things work then go with merchants and stop whining. I thought it was amply apparent by now that skins matter. Katana's drop like rain in Cantha. I can get 30 Katanas in a day without even trying and unless it's some gold uber modded katana it's not going to sell for nearly as much as a rarer skin with the same mods. So yes the shiney spoon is worth more because looks matter. Anyone that says product presentation isn't a factor is a liar.
I also noticed the attempt to drag the fun argument in again. Once more my proverbial buttocks have been chapped. Fun is also subjective. If I find making in game cash fun then I'm also playing the game for fun as it was "meant" to be played. ~kicks Leon's high horse out from under him~ I wish people would stop using that everytime someone jumps up to refute them. It's the same card everytime. " You aren't playing the game the right way. You aren't playing it for fun. That's not the way ANt wanted you to play." Shame on you for even trying to bring that up as a serious counterpoint.

The whole skin thing blows me. I've been using the same old [blue] collector's Holy Staff with 20/20 healing prayers and Insightful/Enchanting mods. I good performance staff I would say, yet I get people telling me it's a PoS because it's not Gold/Green or does not have a "cool look." (Soon after these people tend to "accidentally" die becuase I'm "too busy" maintaining the entire team to heal them)

My high horse you have a lot of nerve dude. I'm just giving out an idea and how the idea came to me. My motives may sound like a contradiction but here’s why. I LEARNED FROM MY MISTAKE. Yes it is possible. I'm not trying to justify or give some cheap excuse. The factor is you don't like the idea of loosing tons of plat so that every one can have their character look cool or the way they want them to. Powers that be forbid the players who enjoy storyline, graphics, and the history and little interesting bits that were put into the game having a good weapon or nice armor. I've meet tons of people who played like 8 different character (by deleting old one) so they can through it again. But they have yet to even come close to the items they want because people, who enjoy killing. (Nothing wrong with that, never said there were. Thanks for assuming) but it's insane when the game becomes nothing but a market and people are charging others a bunch of money they don't have time to get 500k because they have school, work, kids, or more important things and can’t take time to get what they want in the game.
All I want is for each player to be able to afford whatever they want without having to spend all their real time in a chair just to do that when they could have more important issues. Trust me there are those who will ignore everything else for a video game its called obsession.

For 10k i could go craft one and have 2k left over. Thats his point, the guy who was getting on OP's nerves.

Ok then if you want to be able to afford what you want then you have to work for it. You can afford what you need to remain competitive but what you want is to have all the rare high end items to be cheap and sorry that ain't gonna happen. If, as you maintain, the collectors and crafter items are just as good then use those but don't whine because what you basically want is a Ferrari that costs the same as a Honda. I'm sure that people are going to start selling diamonds for the same price as glass now right? I mean they both look the same and are just as sparkly right? So they should be priced the same right? It's ridiculous no matter how you look at it.
As for work school and other time demands I fail to see the rationale behind that argument either. My personal experience has been that you can work full time, and then some like myself who averages about 60 hours a week, and still be wealthy in game. It's not hard to do. I chalk it up to laziness and an inability to recognize patterns. It always comes down to people offering excuses. It's always something. Either so and so has more time than me or such and such has more luck. It's another crutch plain and simple. The bottom line is the people you envy in their ability to amass wealth and their ability to afford things you can't are no better than you are. They probably don't have anymore time than you do all they have is some modicum of intelligence and the ability to take advantage of opportunity when they see it. ANYONE, regardless of time restraints, regardless of the nebulous luck factor, regardless of character build, can be a Guild Wars millionaire easily if you just want to work for it instead of whining about how everything should just be handed to you.

It works like this:
Don: WTS GOLD 15^50 fellblade req9
John: oo nice, ehm, i'll offer 5k
Don: ey it looks better than the traderweapon -_-
John: Ok then, 7k
Pete: huh, hey wait, I like fellblades, I'll offer 8k hehe
John: hell no, 10k!!!!
Pete: zomfg, 30k 30k!!!!
John: oh yeah? Check this out.... 100K!!!!!
Pete: pfft nu, 500KK
John: Ok that's it 800K
Pete: ah crap I don't have that much right now
*Don sells fellblade with same stats as a 7k weapon for 800k to John*
You see, if there's only 1 guy offering 7k, then the weapon is worth 7k.
If there's only 1 weapon but 2 guys really want it, the prices go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
And now for the pricing thingy. I'd go something like this:
Unmaxed: sell to merchant unless skin is nice, if skin is nice, sell for 20k
Maxed but no mods, see above
maxed with inherent mods, see below
Start at 3k for maxed swords with mod.
Skins:
If skin = gladius, sell to merchant unless color is gold.
If skin is spatha, add 5g
If skin is flamberge, add 1k
If skin is is wingblade, add 1k
If skin is fellblade, add 100k
If skin is crystaline, add 2 000 000g
Mods:
If mod is 13^50 and base sword is 4 k so far (maxed, skins gladius, spatha, flam, wing, etc...): sell to merchant
If mod is 14^50, add 1k
If mod is 15^50, add 50k (if gladius, add 1k instead)
If mod is 19 or less under 50, sell to merchant if base sword price is 4k so far.
Otherwise, add nothing.
etc...
You see?
Gold gladius 15^50 is maybe 5k
Gold crystaline 15^50 is 2 500 000g
The gladius is this: http://ianbicking.org/pics/car/PICT0663-medium.jpg
The crystalline is this: http://www.skinz.org/cars/ferrari/Fe...llpapers-6.jpg

The problem is, we care about the useless stuff so much because frankly, theres not alot of options.
For example lets take an normal rpg where stats at beginning of game can have 100 attack points less than the ultimite weapon.
But in guild wars, only 20 point seperate it.
Stats don't rise high often and *maxing out* in gw is only 16 points, while you can max out to 255 in most rpgs.
So due to this, the people want to squeeze out every SINGLE POINT.
resulting in price increases of 30k from a +29 sword mod, to +30.
I know the whole point was explaining skin and color is better, but this was to explain why people thing a max white axe is worser than one with 15^50.
Its sad how much they will pay to get a single point.

I love the Katana skin.. I bet if it were not the crafter skin, it would be in high demand.
I can see why you got flamed.. people buying collector items and trying to pawn them off as rare items ticks me off. Once it was pointed out that it is a crafter item, it makes more sense.
I'm all about cool skins, but not about rare ones. I hate fell blades, crystal swords, and most of the FoW armors. *goes back to hunting for good gothic items*

I'm lazy you say and i'm whining? Oh yes thats it the over 100runs with out getting any gold or green in Sorrow's Furence is nothing. The 30 FoW run with no good drops(kid you not) and seeing one guy get 5shards and the others like 2 a piece. Luck has a big factor yes but after awhile it goes from luck to darn right pathic. Trust me if I had half the luck of some people and the ability to play a little bit everyday instead of the once or twice per month or two would be nice. Oh yes but i'm lazy up I just sit down in town every day crying over pixelized items and insulting every person. Oh yes thats me. Dude you have a happen of assuming and judgeing other badly. I'm not flaming you. If I was you'd know it. you are whining." Oh I can't afford the uber mod rare weapon and I can't pass off some POS as a great thing and scam someone." Those are both valid observations and do not take great leaps of reasoning to extrapolate those observations.I get to play maybe 8 times a month or about 2 days a week for about 4 hours a day. You can make money. You can afford uber items you're just either not applying yourself(i.e. being lazy), or you're not in the right places(i.e. being too lazy to look stuff up). Where is the flame? Am I caustic? Yes. Abrasive? Yes but I'm not flaming you. If you feel slighted perhaps it is because my words ring true?Just a thought, and my final one on this subject.

Oh I'm sorry you've had such a hard time at guild wars and on this forum and here I just made it worse. Here! Here's some warm milk and some cookies to make you feel better. I'm sorry the law of averages seems to ignore you. I'm sorry that you feel that trying to sell a collectors item for profit isn't a scam(it is but whatever helps you sleep at night man). You're just the victim here and I'm really the bad guy. I'm sorry if my opinions hurt your widdle feelings. I'll Fed Ex you some Kleenex and a blanket before I tell you that this is a self serving idea with no practical use to most people that is designed solely for you to get some form of equality that you somehow feel you've been denied. Go ahead and milk that culture of victimhood for all it is worth buddy. I'm sure you'll make a fine insurance defrauder or welllfare scammer someday if you keep it up.
BTW: Machine ID spoofing, Anonymous Proxy servers, IP spoofing and flat out IP reassignment. If the administration decides to give in to your pathetic victim schtick then I'll take it on the chin like a man but threatening to tell the admins on me doesn't exactly inspire fear in me. I can circumvent any ban that they can place. Would I? Probably not but you should realize that your words constitute nothing more than a hollow gesture by an insignificant little man who is trying to take the moral high ground instead of owning up to his stupid idea while at the same time hiding behind a parental figure in the form of the Admins. If you can't take some criticism, even if it is offered in a caustic manner, then perhaps you need to go somewhere else or just stop voicing your opinions period.

Actually color does affect a few things...mainly how the weapon behaves when you do not meet the req.

The other MMO's or MMORPG's (or whatever) that I have played were not like this. Example: In Earth and Beyond (heh..anyone remember that? I loved it), an item called an Atrophy Novem would always sell for around 50K credits, give or take 5-10K. It was always consistent. Not at all so in Guild Wars. Can't really say why.
But for me, the greater irritant is that player who just has to toss the "noob" moniker out there if you don't agree with them or if they think you are not inline with their view of things. I have experienced it plenty. Ha. I have two accounts, 8 active characters, have deleted 4 fully leveled and skilled out characters, have amassed at least 8 million XP (if not more), and have played since early beta in October of 2004. Hardly a newb. But one thing I HAVE learned is what that "ignore" button is for. Ha.
I just move on and let 'em rant.
