People's belief in the "Conspiracy Theory"

I was just a little bit confused on people's seeming belief in a conspiracy by ANet to make this game unejoyable. For example:

-The whole 6*100, vs 8 *50.
I'm hearing a lot of "They deliberately lied to us" + "False advertising". I just wanted to point out a few things with this. First of all, the person who said this (Gaile) is not one of the coders. She's community relations, and as such, doesn't know everything that the programmers are coding.

Second, it seems to me that the whole reason people are complaining is because they can't get the Protector and Cartogropher titles. I highly doubt that this was planned, and was just an unfortunate side effect that will hopefully get fixed. I'm sure they thought people wouldn't care if they had access to the factions equivalent of pre-searing, but didn't think how that would effect the Titles system. An example of this can be seen in the original 55 monk build. Through the combination of skills, one could make an invincible monk and not have to cast anything. I doubt that they did this on purpose, because as a business, they try to do everything to keep customers happy. I forsee this being fixed.

-The whole "money" deal, also buying character slots
A company needs to make money to survive. This particular company doesn't charge a monthly fee, so they have the purchases of the games to pay salaries, utilities, servers, developments, prizes, etc.

Also, people had been saying for awhile "they deserve more slots", and people were offering to pay. Then, when this feature was announced, their were a bunch of complaints about how ANet is just looking for ways to make money. Well, news flash, but server space isn't free, and costs the company money.

These fixes may not come right away. Guild Wars is many millions of lines of code, and, they have a limited number of people working on many projects. Ya'll still want auction houses among other things, yes? Try not to jump on the Conspiracy Bandwagon, and please, try to see things from more than one perspective. Just ask politely for something, state why you want it/think you should have it, and eventually, if enough people want it, it will be high on the list of priority projects for ANet.

Well I am sorry to say, but she as, Anets community realations person should not make any statments at all about things she is not 100% certain about.
As official spokes woman in game she is responible for every thing she says about the product.

And there is only one (1) perspective and that is the one of a consumer.
A-Net is doing a good job in developing GW but NC-Soft is not doing such a good job in the running of the game, ther is certain aspects of GW the developers have clearly state they are not happy with, but that part of the problem is where NCSoft makes money so it can not be fixed.

Unfortunately, its also Anet's policy to ask players to put their opinions, complaints in the fan forums which they read. You can't blame players for spamming forums when they are told to do so instead of (like most professional companies) writing to them directly.

As for making money for guild wars, I feel it isn't in anyone's right to speak on behalf of Anet about their financial situation.

By the way, there are MANY polite threads asking for changes or voicing their discontent. Please live with it, and it's not a conspiracy.

Just to let you know, games that require pay to play aren't asking money for server maintenance as much as they want it to add to the game. The new content, constant adjustments, and evolving game were the ideas behind the pay to play system. You are essentially paying for support, and for new content (whether it be fixes or actual new content). A prime example is Final Fantasy XI. What Anet has done, is that they want to add new content and make adjustments without the fee's. They have their own business model, and players expect the same type of development as pay to play games (since GW is designed to be adjusted and have new content).

In any case, people will always be discontent with certain issues of a game, and even more so if there are valid points that do not help gameplay.

But it sounds like she was told to say this by whoever makes the marketing decisions, and it's them people are taking issue with.

Sure, that, or the entire alliance system.

I agree that ideally that should happen, but hey, we are all human, we all make mistakes. I'm not gonna get all technical about it, especially as I am sure they will fix that (just ask politely, no need to make it seem like a conspiracy). I highly doubt that they thought people would want to go back to "pre-searing", as, I've never seen a thread here with someone asking to go back. But, they forgot about the titles thing...

By perspective, I'm not saying what they want, but rather, how everything doesn't happen instantly. How they have priory projects. How they can make mistakes. I agree that consumers opinions matter, but, they need to understand how a business works and be slightly more patient.

She may not be a coder, but it is her job to answer to questions of the community to the whole GW team honestly and truthfully. In the past she has gone to check with members of the team as to the asnwer of smoe questions.

The fac tthat over several appearances she did say "6*100 or 8*50" is what gets peoples backs up, if she had said it once, and then came back a week later and said, "actually no, my bad, you wont access 100% of the content" then we would all be fne about it, but she didnt, Yes people make mistakes, but this missunderstanding between Gaile and the entire community could easily have been avoided.

Yes all those who defend this system can say "oh well the posts said access to high-end Cantha for Tyrians" etc, I persoanlly beleived that Cantha would have it's own pre-searing, which Tyrians could not access, and all other content was shared. And I bet most of you who jump to defend the infallable Anet now beleived something similar to this at the time.

I dont think Gaile should ever have made those comments, and I will not take anything she says as serious, but rather with an extremely large pinch of salt in the future. Yes she is a nice woman I'm sure, and would never intentionally lie to us, I'm sure, but a tthe end of the day, she did, it is her mistake, and themsmitake of those that gave her that info, not them mistake of the consumers who were expectantly waiting the game's release.

I do feel sorry for GG with all the Flack she is taking over this, as she was probably only saying what she was told to say, but hey, regardless, a msitake was made.


As for the Char slots since you decided to mention it, I see nothing wrong in chargin for Char slots, there were 6 professions with 4 slots, now 8 with 6, imo this amde you think wisely over the professions you played, especially ifyou wanted a PvP slot. I do intend to buy a few slots simply because I want to play all prof's without klling my others.

If ANet wasn't doing anything to fix the whole problem with the presearing and not being able to get the titles, I would agree with you, but I am very optimistic about this getting fixed, and as we have not had "official word" yet, I'm willing to give GG the benefit of the doubt here and assume it was a programming error that was based the same premise of not allowing us back into presearing.

Or, it's possible that changes are made after Gaile informs us of ANet's intended plans.

I'm sorry, but there're enough of these threads.

Refute the points you can in the threads that make the complaints, and don't with the ones you can't.

Addressing a jumble of points in a single thread (Particularly because straw-manning is so common in these instances) when there are more detailed arguments/debates going on already is generally futile.

We have complaint threads for every little thing, complaint threads for about a third of the complaint threads, and threads devoted towards praising Anet for all of their achievements. There is not a shortage on any group of them.

With all of the above in mind, I'm closing this.
