Making a 55 isn't anywhere near expensive.
LA Ascetic's - 2.5k
Superior Runes - 3kish Per x 5 = 15k
Collector's Firey Flame Spitter / Pre-Sear Quest Longsword w/ Crystaline Skin - Free
15% - 17% Enchant Mod - Couple 'o k
Boom, you've just finished the armor and weapon for your 55 w/o spending much at all. IMO 20kish is a small investment for the amount you can farm with a 55. I sold my runes and stuff while prices where still high, as I never actually paid anything for them in the first place.... (farmed them) So selling mine just made me money, lol.

Pfft! I find it hard enough to scrape together 1k so far. Of course, things seem to be changing once you reach that Level 20 mark. Anyway, don't mean to digress...
Oh, btw, there's another thread (which I haven't got link handy) in this forum that has an awesome farming build, but it's using Mo/E, I think. You could check it out. I don't think it's 55 at all, but a combination of various enchantments and only a few minor/major runes.

Well, If you are thinking about non 55 Monk builds then you can just make one up. Smiter, Healer or Bonder are the choices you have, all others are either hard to create or very expensive (It took me baout 1 and a half months to create my 55 nad now im a healer too).
I give you a tip to be a healer for one reason - I find it the easiest. So either just raise you Attributes to max healing and add on some healing skills or look at the build of Gylph Healer that Guildwars guru did.
