fewer people playing guild wars?
GedePod
I just started a new character in pre-searing today, and there usually is at least 2-3 full districts full of people in pre-searing, the abby and so on, but i was there in prime time and not that many people there?:S
Ascalon city is the same. its usually is 5-6 districts, but now its between 1 and 2.
So im wondering - have people stopped playing or are everyone just over in factions? there are allot of new areas added were people can chat, trade and hang out, but i also think that there are much fewer guild battles going on when im using observer mode.
I play on EU distrcits, so I got no idea if its the same in the US districts or korean or japanese ones. Are there any other EU people who feel the same, or is it just me?

the game is bigger now.. i'm guessing people are just spread out a lot more between areas.

I still usually see around 6-7 ascalon city districts for America. Not much different than before.

Elona Reach has three districts of monk bots.
It depends on where you go. A lot of the jungle missions are out and out dead as people don't need them. ToA is down to 3 or 4 districts when America has favor, and THK, Sanctum, LA, Droks, and other trading or choke points still have a population of sorts (but not what it once was). At some of the isolated outposts, I have been completely alone, like Ice Caves and Maguma...
Once I get my Protector of Tyria title, I am probably gonna be outta there except for occasional FoW and Underworld runs.

Haven't really noticed...I've been playing with some of my guildies capping some skills and completing quests in Tyria. I don't have Factions yet..

I think everybody's in Breaker Hollow in Cantha.

less people playing. at release of GW i recall seeing 70+ districs in ascalon city. i havent seen anything like that yet in factions.
Sagius Truthbarron
Uh, Kaineng City on a regular basis has 18 districts. Low end towns have 2-7. Very active.
At release of factions (officially) I can remember Kaineng having about 80 districts. Maybe it was alot more than that. I got to Kaineng on the 2nd-3rd day of release.
Ascalon city is going to be dead for awhile. Nobody is going to fight their Canthan characters all the way back to Ascalon city just to hang out in the dust >.>

Until they add the ability to have character's go back and do early missions (for title reason's) I would use LA, Drak's as more of a gage of how many people are in C1.
I would NOT use any cities in the wilds as a gage, a lot of people skipped them before factions game out. Henge of Denravi.. the forgotten captial..

One reason there was once 70 distrcits of post-AC was that at Prophecies release *everyone* was on the same page. No one rushed, everyone was taking their time, exploring Ascalon and doing the quests that were there instead of rushing them. Now, most people will step into KC, get the skills and quests they need, and be on their way.
Id say maybe a few less people playing, but not a huge amount. Some people got their taste and moved on, and others are still coming in to try.

It could be some gw propaganda, but that was her reason
Willy Rockwell
The first wave of GW players (like me) are now all Ritualists and Assassins, playing PVP and doing the missions in Cantha. No reason to play in Tyria, we did that for a year.

could also be because it's exam time for us students with intentions of getting good grades or passing or plain just being banned from the comp by parents >.>

And other have a points, Factions launches, EVERYONE is in the starting area but as time goes on it spreads out.
The "empty" zone such as Henge of Denravi reminds in in FFXI on some level up tired zone's become vacant.
Example, each start kingoms has three "tired" zones with monsters levels before it converge's to a central area (for all three countries). When I started playing there was a cave in the 2nd teir to the Windurst county... towards the end of me playing, NO one leveled there, they went to the central area and way early levels. And since all the parties migrated to the central area...
That and most players quite FFXI in 1 to 2 years.. and I don't think the addition of new players spike that much either...
(FFXI does NOT like you soloing past a certain level unless you play the ONE job, beastmaster)

It is about the same in presearing before Factions came out it is just the numbers are dwindleing. That is all really but there is till a good number in pre as for the that black oil.It is also the best place to farm.

The helmet is so ugly I had to get one for my ranger too, first one was for the assasin.

I bounce back and fourth between the two...I have noticed a significant drop in the players the further away from the main hangouts....Ascalon has a steady amount, Lions Arch has a good showing...ToA has plenty of folks. You can always find folks around droks. The maguuma jungle is as desolate as the desert....nobody is hangin around there. It was like pulling teeth to get folks to team up for the mission in The Wilds and in Bloodstone....that is unless you play a Monk. I have been working as many of the quests in Cantha as possible. I have only completed the mission in Vizunah Foreign...I keep hunting down quests. I have one Faction born char that I have been keeping busy with all the quests on that island...That place is always packed with folks. I think that only a handful of dedicated and new folks will be completing the pre-searing in ascalon...when you can get xp in one quest in cantha that takes 6-7 over in pre ascalon...I can see why folks have flocked over to factions. I have enjoyed both chapters, no complaints. I agree still people have shifted locations.

Bigger = Players more spread out and less people in various towns and outposts. The problem I'm seeing is getting a PuG together now for a mission. I long for the day when you only had problems finding Monks. For the last two days I've been trying to do Unwaking Waters. The problem isn't finding a Monk, it's finding enough people to even do the mission. **
** Now will come the floods of people claiming, "I did this mission solo with my hands cuffed behind me using nothing but my johnson."

A while ago they updated their technology to allow more people into districts, thats why there are less districts now than they're used to be.
Snowman
Im sure it will pick up after a while, its only natural that people want to play the newest thing out there.
Remember we have had GW for over 12 months! in honesty it amazes me how many people I see in Pre-searing and ascalon after such along time.

Well, if there truely are less players than before, I couldn't blame them.
I don't know if it's me having become more skilled or whatever, but going thru the Cantha story line (hu? what story?) seemed to take me less time than going thru the Tyria story line.
The new armor looks like the designer/s are begging for being shot.
I checked the 15K armor on guildwiki and all I can say is: people could give me the tons of amber and ink for free and I still wouldn't be wearing it.
So right now I am doing the Tyria missions with my Rt and I have to say: finding ppl. has become less difficult simply for the lack of available ppl.
There's no way you could get ignored or kicked out of a team, because there are no others.
That makes the team usually stick together more cloesly, and the "kick one ele, get another" mentality is no more.

That'd lag them so bad if there was heaps of people around.
-Loki-
Actually, what they did, they updated their district software so there were fewer empty districts, it updated them faster and placed people better. The district limit is still 100 people, but it used to place people in new districts more often, now it only creates new districts when absolutely needed. You used to see like 3 full, 3 half full, 2-3 with a few people in them, and a few with one or empty. Now you see 3-4 full, 1-2 semi full.

On the Luxon side in the area where you do alliance battles, I have never seen more than 2 districts. I guess this is because everyone does the same quests over and over to get faction, but come on, the driving force of alliances isn't even active?
Edit: About the hats the emperor was giving out. I didn't have the time to do the quest, so I bought whatever it was you needed 250 of, and it cost me a total of 16k!!! Then I tried on the Tengu mask...

Anyways, Tyria is a bit dead at the moment cause everyone is exploring Cantha and stuff. I expect Tyria to get the life breathed back into it by the end of the summer or so. People will then be split in between the two continents.
Thom
Realize that their wasn't much PvP right after release the first time around. At the moment, HA has a handful of districts, RA has ~20, TA has an empty district, alliance battles has a 2-3 districts per side (maybe 4 total), Aspenwood has 2-3 districts (1 luxon, 1 kurzick, maybe another) and there are almost aways GvG battles on observer mode. At any one time you have several dozen PvP districts which means there are thousands PvPing at any given time.

I have given this some consideration I will say this is that there are less playing in prophecies than factions. It is getting harder to find groups for missions about the ony way is to pay a runner.what really gets me though is seeing all the assassins and ritaulists over to get into the Sactum Cay mission as if they need it.Prophecy chars. need it to ascend and this I am not getting my Ele.mes ran to Droks like my other chars.I sure hope if the A$$ or the Rit doesn't get the Xp or if they can fight the doppleganger just to get to the Tomps.I saw a Canthan Monk in the RoF mission I don't get it why to cap shield of deflection?
