Prophecies or Factions?

Hey all!

I'm new to the GW game and have just picked up both the original Guild Wars (Prophecies) and the new Factions.

My question is where should I start? If I don't pick one of the 2 new professions and can start at either campaign where should I start?

Also, depending on where you start, will you be able to do all the missions from both campaigns?

The other reason I ask is I always hear people talking about "Pre-Searing" (I think I know what that means, at least in terms of historical timelines, etc) and wasn't sure if I started in the Factions campaign I would miss some of the early story-line missions of Prophecies...or vice versa in Cantha/Factions Campaign.

Anyway, any information and/or advice for a newcomer to this exciting game will be much appreciated!

my recommendation is to start at the beginning, of both. Work your way through both at the same time as that will very quickly highlight the differences between them. Prophecies will take you far longer, and in a sense this is why I believe it is a more replayable game. Factions is immersion, fast and furious, very challenging in comparison. Both together will give you a good grasp of gameplay mechanics and give you a chance to develop skills, both in game and out.

start in tyria on the original campaign if you have both, then move to cantha once you've finished.

You should play Prophecies first so you learn the basics of the game and learn the different characters involved in the storyline. Once you have finished Prophecies you should move onto Factions.

thanks much for the advice... I guess the only problem with starting in tyria is that you can't try out the 2 new professions, but I wasnt going to start out with either of the 2 new professions anyway... Was thinking about the Ranger profession, just unsure of second profession

Anyway, thanks to both of you for the advice and see ya in game!
