Being that not every guild will be able to grind out the necessary faction to compete with, say, Black Blades or The Crusaders, perhaps Anet could allow for a more casual use for faction.
As it is now, there are only three uses for it.
1) Selling.
2) For armor.
3) For alliance standing.
Perhaps sell certain items for factions?
Perhaps certain bonuses for a particular faction standing?
Perhaps alliances can charge access into elite missions via faction?
Just some ideas.
Perhaps some "casual" uses for faction?

charging faction to enter elite missions will keep the alliance inp power, so that's a good idea... but it'll be difficult to take the alliance over...

How about a version of FoW/UW that can be entered with faction (meaning you don't have to go through an alliance). People have been noticing a lack of a high end PvE area and this could be a fair way to add one. Instead of paying 1 plat, you pay with faction.
I like the idea of using faction to trade in for items. Maybe crafters could make non-standard weapon skins in return for some faction.
You could use faction to buy elite guildhalls or elite services for your guild hall (15K armor crafters).
