1.5k armors please

I've got a post in the Necro section of the boards about how I like the Luxon 1.5k much more than the 15k. The 15k has all these strange straps on it and has the collar hiding half of the character's face. It was just horrible looking to me and I was glad that I went to guildwiki.org before dropping 100k on crafting and materials for the armor.

I find it funny that other people don't like the 15k armor for other characters/classes as well. If I were ANet's armor designers I'd put more emphasis on distinctive looking armor at the 15k level instead of adding more horns, eyes and straps as was done with the necro armor.

Actually the 15k Canthan looks really good. I'm debating on tossing my 15k luxon in storage and breaking down and buying that one. In my mind, Ranger armor should be sorta 'rough and tumble,' Which is why I tend to like the Luxon armor, but if you're going for the 'Light and Nimble' look, then Shing Jea armor is the one to go with (as Kurzick is too frilly). I've got the +energy variety in my Luxon set, so I was going to get my + armor set with the Shing Jea skin. To me the Shing Jea armor looks better in a dark color...but silver looks white on it, which is also cool.... even though it'd stick out like a sore thumb in the wilderness....

I'll probably end up with 15k Canthan and some Shing Jea, then. 350 scales + 35 fur is pretty cheap for an end-game armor, and Shing Jea is as cheap as it gets.. So I guess I get to throw the cash at some perfect weapons, lol.

My opinion (male ranger is one of my main characters @1.75 million xp) is that the only factions armor I will buy is shing jae. The rest are uninspired, and I am wearing old skool druids armor... Kurz armors are fine for mesmers, and female eles, but a ranger does NOT wear doilies! Luxon armors are more suitable, however they just dont look that great (except the female rangers of course). The 15k canthan? DOILIES!!!! Shing Jae armor is where its at. If a male ranger can't look good coming out of the barn after the farmer's daughter... whats the point?

Expanding the topic a little bit...

I really like the 1.5k Kurzick Monk over the 15k, and the 1.5k Kurzick Rit over the 15k. It seems to me that in some instances, the 15k armor just adds a few extra straps/skulls/feathers/buttons rather than just polish and improve on the 1.5k version.

1.5k Kurzick Monk is what I'm getting for my monk, too, don't remember if I threw that in earlier. The 15k looks like it's been slept in for a week, and other than that the only difference is the gold lining - nothing special. Probably going to black it, but I'll experiment with a few colors first to make sure nothing else looks better. And you're right.. they just threw a bunch of crap on the 15k Rit - it just looks messy.

I agree, I have 1.5 ranger kerzicks armor set, it looks really nice, the only this I regret is having it dyed silver instead of black.

a sidenote, I think for female ranger, 1.5k kurzicks and 15k canthan armors are worth money.

I'd have to agree with the above posters about certain 1.5K sets looking better than the 15K counterparts. I absolutely loathe all the 15K mesmer sets for both genders, except for the 15K female Kurzick. That is tolerable to look at, even though it makes my female mesmer look like a medieval barmaid. The rest are just ... fugly.

Honestly, I don't understand why everyone is drooling over the 15K female Canthan mesmer set. It screams tacky and cheap plastic furniture, bad disco and shag carpet. I recall seeing a pic of my mother wearing something like that ... in the 1960s. All that's missing from that armor set is an optional beehive hairdo.

I have to agree - tons of the 1.5k sets are better than their 15k counterparts.

I have a serious 15k armor addiction (my 6 prophecies characters all have at least one set of 15k armor each, some have more).... and the only 15k set I might get from Factions is the 15k Canthan for my female ranger. (But the 1.5k is so much softer looking, which is what I love about that armor, so haven't decided yet).

[edit: my prophecies ele will be replacing her 15k aero with 15k canthan and different stats.]

Not that I'm disappointed, the new armors (even 1.5k versions) are so VERY detailed and beautiful.... I guess I'll be spending my plat elsewhere.
