Several ideas revolving around the realms of the gods
Adamant
Just to state off right off the start, many of these ideas that I will be presenting have been suggested previously. I am putting many of them together into something that I see would be a good update. =D
Currently, we only have two god realms, FoW and UW. We definately need realms for the other gods (not sure on any names, suggest some).
These two current realms each provide something special that the rest of the game does not:
Balthasar - Fissure of Woe - provides the Obsidian Armor crafter
Grenth - Underworld - provides basicly the best item drops available in game
So, here are some suggestions that I would like to see come into play in the new realms (I will also update if good ideas are suggested here)
Dwayana - [name] - Basicly opposite of current realms. A bright cheery atmosphere, green grass, lush forests, pure streams of water. Special Celestial Armor crafter (opposite of FoW armor, bright, glowing, etc).
Melandru - [name] - Deep forest area, somewhat dark, but not spooky. Many suprises, traps, hidden enemies, vine bridges. Could include a changing enviornment, ie: trees moving to change the map. Could be a random map. Provides many tamable pets. Very challenging.
Lyssa - [name] - Floating stuff, castles, etc. Very surreal looking. Main purpose is to provide character recreater, an npc that allows you to change hair/face/skin/height.
<edit> Wow, how did this thread get russurected? I havent seen this thing in so long, and now there's people posting in it. O.o

I love the idea!!
dwayna's realm sound just like pre sear
but with this:
Lyssa - [name] - Not sure about enviornment yet, suggest some stuff. Main purpose is to provide character recreater, an npc that allows you to change hair/face/skin/height.
You're bassicly saying what do mesmers do?
(besides looking pretty)

Here is a couple of suggestions for God Zones:
Dwayana - [Celestial Haven] - Basically opposite of current realms. A bright cheery atmosphere, green grass, lush forests, pure streams of water. Special Celestial Armour that is bright, glowing, without the ability to colour, is wearable by Monks and Elementalists without the usual penalties. Special Celestial Armour crafter.
Melandru - [Platypus Sounds] - Deep forest and Semi high mountain area, may even incorporate a lake region too, a Norwegian style arena. Many surprises, traps, hidden enemies, vine bridges. Could include a changing environment, i.e.: trees moving to change the map. Could be a random map. Provides many tameable pets. Very challenging with The Final Challenge the ability to tame The Golden Dragon (Bagheera).
Lyssa - [Narcissus Hideaway] - Mountain Lakes - anywhere the water becomes like a mirror. The changing water means that the viewer then uses that water as a portal to another area where the character can redesign a part of themselves and then find a way out to another place or back to the point of origin. This makes for interesting choices on behalf of the player as the portals are always changing.

what if lyssa's statue wasnt a portal to another realm like the others (i really like the dwayna idea above) but Lyssa was the way to implement hair/face changes, eg for 1k, when your country has favour, lyssa will let you completely rechange your character from any chapter you have installed
(she is a god after all, so re-changing ur entire appearance should b possible )
maybe charge a little more for completely changing ur entire appearance so people arent doing it constantly.
sorry to go off topic a little, it just inspired me

You might have to do one quest to be allowed to change the colour of your skin. Another quest to change the facial features. All of the quests to access the character generation screen for appearance. Each of the quests would give you the submenu to change the aspect that's the reward from the quest.

A second fow-style armour?
I don't like having to dish out even more gold for a new one but it would be nice if it was bright white with feathery stuff or something X.x
Lyssa barbershop, I like X.x

For Lyssa I'm imagining a world that is full of illusions. I would like to fight some dopplegangers that look just like you and have your current build. That would be something.
How about twin creatures that always use the exact same spell at the exact same time?
As for the type of world, I would imagine a place that is mind-blowingly wild. A world that floats in the air with waterfalls that fall into oblivion, and you travel between "continents" through mirror portals. Sometimes there are invisible bridges and sometimes illusionary walls.
I think they could do some interesting things with Lyssa's realm.

Lyssa's realm would have to be insanely pretty and dreamlike but also being on the mesmer theme it would also have to be an absolute mind f*ck. I want it to look great but then crazy things like subtle changes in the environment happen without you really realising. Portals and doors changing and moving all the time, dimensions and size shifting on a regualr basis. Walking on the ceilings with everything upside down. In my head i have a sort of a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Willy Wonka's factory. But layered with prettiness of course.
BTw the idea of incorporating the character image modifier with Lyssa's realm i think could really work. Great idea

Haha. M.C. Escher should be hired to do the blueprints for Lyssa's it sounds...well, except he's dead.
I do like the ideas of other realms, and some of those suggestions are great. I'd love a way to change appearance (I don't like my Warrior's hair...the back edge of the model pokes through it when he runs. :/ This has also been a much requested feature, and this might just be a way to do it...) and a think a zone with many pets, especially unique ones, would be cool.
lol, when you were talking about the scenery for Dwayna, I was thinking of the meadow in the moon at the end of Majora's Mask. XD

Wait for standalone updates like sorrows furnace. We will get more godly realms.

Wow, I really like these ideas. Except I would think the challenge of some of these places would give the opposite of what they may represent. Maybe some really challenging angry ghostly spirits or something that need to be brought to light for Dawayana.
Don't really have many other ideas for the others, but I like these ideas alot. I just wish they would remove the favor idea now, makes me feel like a distant cheerleader with no pom poms.

Melandru's region sounds cool.
I have never agreed with being able to arbitrarily change you face/skin/etc, so I do not agree with the Lyssa region. However, the definitely should do something with Lyssa.
Mmm...celestial armor....<3

In a way, if you read the headstones at Lyssa's alters, Lyssa is somewhat of a benevolent trickster. I would think any god wants to gain more followers and teach mortals wisdom more than anything.
So I don't see the challenge in Lyssa's realm as being something derived from an invasion or a problem in which you must help Lyssa. Instead I think a donation of 1K grants you entrace to Lyssa's realm where she aims to teach you about illusion and the deception of beauty. If you want to tie it into the hair stylist idea, the 1K grants you "beautification," but only if you pass her trials. And that 1K, in her mind, is granting you the wisdom she is trying to teach you. Her realm is full of creatures and puzzles and all manner of illusions to give you that mind f*ck we should all expect from her. The hard part of Lyssa's realm is not getting lost.
What I would personally like to see of Lyssa's realm is something where you actually do learn. I'd like the realm to test how well you strategize in unusual situations, or against unusual foes.

I just had the idea that Lyssa's could be fairytale-like. Big towering castles floating in the sky, lots of islands, need to activate bridges to cross between them.

any other ideas?

I like the Dwayna idea - its refrehsing. However, what would be the challenge? Will she send fairies in to heal us to death?

don't forget Dwayna is the aeromancers patron god

Lots of great ideas in this forum.
Things i definately like: other zone specific armors like FOW armor but without the dark feel. celestial armor for Dwayna...why not more earthy armor for Melandru and brightly coloured stylised armor for Lyssa...I think the idea of having high end PVE armor is really great. the 15k is a nice aspect, but really..FOW is the next level but it doesn't have the same variety of style. Being the highest armor accomplishment in the game it makes sense to me to have some variety so that different kinds of players would be inspired to go for it.
Also, with Melandru's area...having special pets that are hard to get are always exciting. kinda like the phoenix in Factions, but a few different options. I always like the idea of having a few unique pets that only the most devoted ranger could get. Also, the idea of having the zone full of traps and requiring ranger or earth based skills could be neat too...it would require people to master different strategies if they want to survive in different areas...and make the strategies apply most to the followers of that god.

OP ideas sound fantastic. I'd love to see the other statues put to use.

Dwayna's Realm: When you first enter you are at the foot of a giant tree that appears to rise into the heavens. The tree is vast and expansive and covers the majority of your screen for awhile. The initial area is lush and green with smooth running waters. The sky is a pale blue with a unidentifiable lighting source. When you take your first step a dark spot appears at the party's northern location and dark creatures issue forth. They fight at you with aeromancy and other twisted healing arts. Upon defeating this first encounter a avatar of Dwanya issues forth and informs you of her plight. Dwayna's realm is under attack by the Shadow Army that also plagues Balthazaar. However, these Shadow Army soldiers are Dwayna's old followeres whom she had thrown out of her holy land due to their radical and satanic ideas. They were thrown into the bone pits of Grenth. All seemed well until a systematic assault upon the God's took place. THe kingdom of Balthazaar is now constantly under seige and Grenth's lair has been taken over by the denziens of some unknown evil. While in Grenth's lair, the attackers reached the bone pits and unleashed the evil that Dwayna and Grenth had sealed there many ages ago. Your task is to clear the holy land of Dwayna and save the Goddess.
That idea may seem corny but I just came up with it on the spot.

For some reason, I see Lyssa's Realm as really surreal.

I always thought that Dwayna's realm should be like a place with the white mantle. I don't know why, but thats just what it felt like. I think if there is an armor crafter there, you should be able to craft some cool white-mantle-ish armor.
And for Lyssa's realm, I think it should have a Dali feel to it.
For example

In each realm after you clear them mini pets of the gods should drop!!
I would love a grenth or lyssa mini paet and what better way to recieve them than to clear their corresponding land!!
Collect them all!

Remember that both of the realms had villians of sorts. This bakes the question: What kind of enemies would fit into new realms? They need to be fitting, and by fitting, I don't mean the opposite of the realm. For a Melendru Realm, we don't need to go Captain f**kin' Planet and 'save trees'.
I know what would be awsome for Lyssa's Realm. This whole cloud top fantasy world is okay, but Mesmers aren't just pretty little 'everything-sweet' preformers. Don't lose sight of the fact that they are, for the lack of a better term, illusionists.
I say a location that shifts. Lots of teleporters, switches that open one set of doors but closes another. Teleporters that, like The Deep, only allow a certain amouint of people inside before they shut up. Lots of traps, too.
As for enemies? Well. Acrophyto or whatever it's called. That would be fitting. Things that can change classes. Enemies that change skills. Mesmers that are multi-profession that abuse signet of illusions. Multiple elites, shut downs.
And for icing on the cake. Lyssa's a twin goddess. You need to kill every enemy twice.

heh, looks like this topic is mildly out-of-date, but i just came across this. and im gonna ramble like you all wouldn't believe, but i just like this idea soo much! ideas flowing!!!!! cannot stop!
you know, all the ideas from the original poster were fantasmic--the melandru, dwayna, and lyssa regions and what should occur in each place--and if i were designing or discussing regions, strategies, and quest rewards with the design team, i would definitely try to incorporate all of this into the game without flinching. i have been waiting to see if these regions are added with each expansion of gw, and the temple of ages shrines are the first thing i head to upon each expansion release date. (snaps fingers, but smiles)
i gotta give ya many thumbs up, and i'll tell ya why: most ideas or suggestions are often tried and true---but this one is definitely not of the ordinary. and extraordinary is GOOD! of course if we include the current gods of the game (traditional), but allow a few of them some type of off-the-wall/semi-permanent power in their respective realms (not totally traditional), this will surely balance out, but break gw free of what other games are doing or currently have.
the characters in this game represent a portion of each human player to some extent and likewise we see a portion of ourselves in our most-oft played character. yes, we all know this. BUT what if the character in the game had an opportunity to do something that its human puppeteer was not able to do?
i will make myself a little more clear as to what i am getting at~
dwayna reference: certainly we can (still) craft armor in real life, but it is expensive, as in the game. but can a human craft godlike ethereal armor? not yet! would love to see it! for 15k a piece, with new, more rare ingredients to match! maybe put some of that glittering dust to real use! monks will never want to leave!
melandru reference: humans can have a lion or a croc or a flamingo as a wild real pet (with lots of patience and guts), but what can they NOT have yet? only the things we see in our dreams! possibly a pet...that we...create ourselves instead of having maybe 3 or 4 pets to choose from? for 15k + fur and/or feathers (insert more materials etc) a pet depending on what you want it to have on it! this will distinguish anyone's pet from the crowd! wow. did you see so-and-so's pet? wow i had to screen cap it because it was the most unbelievable thing i have ever seen! let me show you!
lyssa reference: some plastic surgery operations can only slightly make humans "look different"...but there are some jobs that plastic surgeons cannot perform, at least not with current technology. and salons (or do-it-yourself kits) can change our hair to any color. but what if you could totally change everything about yourself? does that not excite anyone? change hairstyle, skin color, height, facial features, eye color, and other minor, yet detailed aspects of the human body----at a reasonable price? and do it again and fork out more money for a new look when you get bored of it? even if we did not look the same all the time, we would still be the same person on the inside. for 5k plus specific existing (or new?) materials, add, subtract, deform, or perfect any material to your body including skin and skin textures. like 5k to add/subtract anything to the head, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, chin (yes even goatees that were never there before), separate arms/hands, separate legs/feet, back (add wings! ), etc etc...
and to make sure you get it right (as if you were molding your character on the character creation screen)~change certain features as if you were a 3d modeler. but to include those with connections that are not as high-speed or whatnot, have an option to do it piece by piece if you cannot stay longer than 5 minutes at a time to finish it all. or if players have little experience with 3d modeling (or do not care to push and pull control verteces), make the interface have basic options too. and all of this fit within armor constraints too somehow if you want it to or not---some kind of flexibility with that too. i know i would be there a lot on "lyssa field trips" to make use of that new region AND get all my main characters lookin' real crazy! oh, if i could have a permanent entire body-makeover, i think there would be a whole new meaning to the word "gold" in my book---and in my storage
then someone playing with you in a pickup group would say WOW....so-and-so...you have been to lyssa!!!! you look AWESOME! or...so-and-so, you make me want to puke! and it all be in good, experimental fun!
but instead of making a whole ton of quests for this, have maybe one solid quest (or one solid question--do you REALLY want to do this, so-and-so? answer: yes! :P) and just pay the fees for those who are going to be there too long...since some people could be there 5 hours playing around with one hand or whatnot! and an option to do several quests for those who wanna beat up on monsters (who drop special ingredients to keep in inventory/storage for the body) or be at the play around screen for 5 minutes or less. since mesmers are the masters of illusion which includes "fast casting"~ fast crafting options should exist, as those who mess around in fissure of woe are fighting, or enacting a long, drawn out war in balthazar's name. different concepts for different areas, as stated
i couldn't help but go off the deep end with all the things i was thinking while typing up, but WOW...wouldn't this be a nice treat for yourself every once in a while?

but instead of making a whole ton of quests for this, have maybe one solid quest (or one solid question--do you REALLY want to do this, so-and-so? answer: yes!

Ok,here is my idea!
Since Lyssa is my favourite godess in game (i am mesmer u know )
here is my idea about her realm!
I mostly agree with Undivine about paying 1k and then if u pass her task u gain opportunity to change your appearence, but only hair and facial hair, and would be really cool if u could even change your armor appearance (to look like other armor in game from same class),armor color or even weapon skins ! yay! everything for extra price! OR better, armor or weapon change for a price of your beauty, muhahahah!
Her realm should look like a big twisted looking tower floating in chaos realm, with mountaines and other little towers floating by in purple mists (and some lightnings too). Very sick and chaotic.
The tower would have 6 stages, each stage would have unique task, and each would be harder than previous one. Ofcourse there would be traps, illusions and hidden doors just to confuse u a little.
There would be evil illusions coming from mirrors and walls, changing bridges and stairs (well like in harry potter rofl) and teleporting doors (u know one second door is there next second door is on the other wall).
And on the 6th stage the last task would be fighting an evil illusion of your selves! Like a fight with doopledude but this time your whole group will fight mirror image of the group. They would look exactly the same as everyone and have exactly the same skills!
So the last room would be a mirror room, shaped as circle with lots of mirrors from witch will your evil mirror images would come.
After u defeat your selves u r granted a visit to lyssa her self and there u can change appearence for price.
Thats it,sry about my english!

They did 3 spot lights on these topics only a few months back, you should include your comments there.

Dwayna: pre-searing look. very pretty over all but with storm clouds and random lightening strikes (like the collapse in arborstone) this gives spikes to deal with as well as creatures. Creatures: monks and aeromancers.
the armorer idea is cool.
Lyssa: sureal, i liked the spiral staircase idea. Remeber that lyssa is also the goddess of assassins. As far as the appearance change idea i say no. This should be the next place to get new weapons.
Melandru: woodlands, heavy trees, loads and loads of traps. place to find an ellite skill trainer. to save on capping. but they cost 3k each
thats all i got.

Well... I think that the next one to be added will be Lyssa's and the last one Dwayna's (since she's somehow the 'leader' of gods).
I think Lyssa's will have 'purple' atmosphere, with a lot of chaos creatures, beautifull, yet deceiving. A realms of mirrors and ilussions.
In Melandru's should be that people she made his guadians, nature spirits, a lot of green, something that shows even more life and green than Maguuma.
Dwayna's may be the mists themselves. A place floating in the voids, with calm music. Judges guard the gates, angels speak to you there.
I think all the realms are part of the mists, so once they are all added, why no to add also a way to travel from une to another, just by paying the fee? XD
I also think that an elite armor should be added to each one.

It will take alot of effort in making a new realm (epecially for free)
so why doesn't Anet sell the realms seperatly for like 10 dollars like mini add-on's about 3-4 times the size of UW.
add key, take quest from god of realm in ToA or any of the other places where you can enter them upon completion "get special item like proof of entrance", seek party and off you go.
As a bonus you can get a special item in the realm itself for completing all the quests (think aura/wings/jewelery/new emote (/dwayna)/glowing eyes) which shows on character (also in towns)and has to have the option to be set on or off.
Now one minor detail: The realm has to have towns or outposts, maybe missions even so you can pause your play otherwise doing all the quests in an area 3-4 times the size of UW would take about 12 hrs :S
so when you log in again you will be back in the town like normal play.
So
-reasonable new explorable area
-4 new towns (with all the things normal towns have)
-2 to 3 missions
-15 quests
-special item (mentioned above)
-last mission gives green drop unique for each realm
-one new armor set
Worth $ 10,- ????
Dwayna \
Melandru - normal entry
Lyssa /
Grenth and Balthazar you have to choose between realm entry of UW/FoW entry

the lyssa area shouldnt be a cosmetic map i think lol. i like the idea of the surrondings and description of the place but i think it should offer stuff such as mabye wepons, elite and goldly wepons with awesome skins that cost a fortune. lol. to complete the fow armor and the dwayna armor. and make it really intersting. like lyssa only allows you to forge wepons a fraction of the times you go there. meaning she will decieve you and have a phony crafter sometimes. just to make the rareity a greater amount. or something like, you can onl;y enter the realm if you have a mesmer on your team. but mesmers would be useless there. and thier health would be decreased to like 100, but have no dp. so it makes it harder for the team, because the mesmer has to be rezed constantly. and the mesmer unlocks all the portals and gates and ect to get closer to the forge master. and thats why theres a point for the mesmer ^^

Before we go any further you guys are all missing one poits of the realms of the gods. This was explained to me, soo I dont know if this is a 100% but sounds very plausable and I'l look it up.
Fissure of Woe is balathazar realm: but his realm is under attack by his hafl brother, forgot his name, and we are there to help defeat that invading army.
Underworld: Same idea except this time some guy is trying to invade the place ( not the half brother of Grenth )
The reasons why we cant go in the other realm ( in the lore anyways) is because unlike Baltazar and Grenth, the other gods dont need our help to clean out their realm.
So in order we need to in order to open a realm, we also need to creat a problem for us to go into their realm.
I'l comeback later to comfirm all of this
