Alot of people have already beat Factions so will it be played as long as Prophecies was played? I mean I'm thinking I won't get Factions because it won't keep me playing the entire summer. I may have tons of other games to play, but I like to focus on one at a time. Anyway,if it doesn't keep people playing as long what does that mean for the next chapter?

Also, how many people will get bored of farming faction to control a town for some fireworks and a discount? If you ask me they should have made Factions either more challenging or a bit longer. Heck,I've had Prophecies since December and just a few weeks ago beat the last mission, but now we're hearing about people beating Factions in a few days.

I dunno, but with either the lack of challenge or the fact that the game is short I may not buy Factions...

It doesn't have to. Prophecies kept people playing for quite a while - but Factions was released a year later. Chapter 3 is being released in around 6 months. They only need to keep peoples attention for around 6 months with each expansion, just enough to keep the game in their mind when the next 6 monthly chapter is released.

True, forgot about the 6 month thing. Though I'm still finding it quite annoying about the price of Factions, but really what new game isn't the same price is either a really bad game or a good game that wanted alot of sales.

I dunno, from pre searing to ascention takes about a weekend, possibly two weekends if it's with quests. Factions has taken more than two weekends just to do missions and most quests, and that's not elite missions yet either.

The hook for alot of people is the introduction of "titles." It will take a very long time to acquire most of them individually, and unless you have already achieved a large percentage of them on your Tyrian characters beforehand, it will take all of 6 months and then some to finish. There will be many people that are spending time capping, playing drunk (or standing in outposts drunk in some cases), farming faction, what have you, just to achieve the titles.

even with the 6 mnth thing i have alrdy beat the game 6 times and i am right now just doing the elite mission but that even gets boring after a while. with tyria there were so many places to go and farm and took a lot longer to beat if u were not run anywere. ppl will play for the whole 6 mnths just to try and make money but factions is already boring.

I agree. That would keep me playing for a while if it's big enough.

And factions has kept me interested until 2 days ago where I got really bored of it. Finished Kurz side of the campaign, done The Deep, quests aren't very fun to me. So I'm guessing I've played like 30 hours in factions, compare that to the 1,200 I have from prophecies. I don't think people will play it as much, unless they PvP and are still interested in that, or just enjoy the new style of Factions. Also, people who haven't played the Tyrian campaign would probably stay playing longer.

Factions lacks any end game content, so in the end people will dump factions and be playing Chapter 1s content as AN didnt bother making any for factions.

In prophecies, there were 25 missions, and it took time to lvl and get around. there were like 6 areas in tyria. You could solo almost anything. PvP wise, there was nothing. Its either your doing RA/TA, HA or GvG. Now in cantha, you can get to lvl 20 in less then 2 hrs, and theres only 13 missions, 4 areas. You only have to access 3 of these areas, and with your tyrian char 2. Soloing has become much harder, but still possible. Now for PvP, theres 12v12, which is basically the only addition to PvP. I beat factions in less then 12 hours. I beat prophecies in about 3-4 days. Overall, Tyria kept us busy for a year, So Cantha should be able to last us 6 months.

ok the hardcore players have said their thing now
(i know i'm semi hardcore from time to time and beat factions the first weekend)
But i know lot's of people that only can play 2-4hours per week, that is probably less then some of you play per day So for the normal casual player that doesn't have so much time for games, the game will last. But for people that likes to play +2h per day, it won't last more then a couple of weeks or maybe a month or two.

Just my point of view!

Actually we didn't do that much in terms of missions-quests. Have a good laugh though

I guess you could call me a "hard core player". I bought factions first day it came out, everyday since then ive been on for more then 2hrs. I havent stepped foot in tyria since. So ive played over well over 50 hours since, and Im not getting too bored.

It took me about 6 months to get bored with prophecies and about 6 days to get bored/ pissed off with factions. 50 bucks is a crime to charge for this game i want 30 of it back unless you give the full 4 slots for combining and give everyone the chance to play elite missions. but since when have they listened to the fans. and by fans i don’t mean the whiny guru forum trolls who flame everyone for not thinking like them. if you dont know what i mean just read any thread and they are the ones telling you to use the search feature that NEVER works.
The Asian theme of factions was cute at first but once you leave the island, you are put in a world only about as big as ascalon and have to navigate through pointless mazes with your 60%dp henches, having to fight one enemy at a time before rezing over again. the quests lacks any imagination,(Go to point a, then point b, get reward). but to answer your question, factions has no replay value and i guess ill go back to proph and the game i used to love, before the many needless nerfs. Maybe i should make an elona bot since apparently anet doesn’t care one it about them. rock on anet!! heres to being total hypocrites!

I don't think it will, as a new Guild Wars player you couldn't learn the whole game in a week (well, I won't doubt some did) and because of that it took a long time to carry you character through the game. In Factions, most of the people know how the game works and they will speed through it in no time.

No chance of it. Several people I know have quit or are on the verge of quitting. Contentwise, Factions is only half the size of Prophecies, and as far as gameplay goes there have been no improvements, and even a possible deterioration given the massive increase in server lag and random err7s.

I am disappointed that Anet has spent several months implementing an elaborate caste system, but seems unable or unwilling to implement even a rudimentary market/auction system or a slightly less irritating partying system. There comes a point when one gets simply tired of the same nonsense.

I started gwp in August of last year (sorry was out of the country until then)....I started one character and about 1 month later started 2 more, and a few more days a final one....by xmas I had gotten the first one thru the 25 missions and had the titan quests started....by valentines day I had them all thru the missions....and by tax day I had them all thru the titan quests as well (have NOT finished final assault with any of them as of yet).....so it took me some time to finish the game, and I had not gotten bored of the fissure or underworld, but had had enough of sorrow furnace.
its only been about 10 days since my CE finally got here and, well I dont see myself finishing it before the next chapter comes out......for a few reasons:
1 its too repetitive.
2 my computer cant handle the amount of graphics in the slums and
3 gwp was just more fun and I am almost done with 2 of my titles
SO until I get a better graphics card (which requires a real computer--not a laptop), it will be slow going for me....but thats ok, I dont need to run thru/beat the game as fast as fast can be, that just aint fun for me!
So I guess I will be 'playing' with factions for at least as long as prophecies, but it wont be all at one time----any time soon.
