A sword can give you 5 mana and 30 HP.

Doesn't a wand give you 12 energy?

Offhand does, not wand. So, sword + offhand = 17.

when fighting spike teams i grab my +30 +30 hp staff or the +5 +5 armor staff depending on what kind of spike they are. (obsidian and blood are armor ignoring) Awesome. I'd not even considered bringing an anti-spike staff. That's a really good idea.

Right, a few quesitons.
1) Any particular reason why your Katana is ebon? Sounds cooler?
2) Why have the earth scroll that gives you +1 energy net? Wouldn't a no-req candy-cane sheild be better? +5 more armour > 25hp?
3) When "full healing", in what situations would you go from 20/20 to +30hp/ +1heal 20%?
4) Do you use Wenslauss' Faith for mix divine/prot/heal builds? Or does it serve some other purpose?

TIA.

2. because you dont meet the req, the scroll gives you only 3 energy, -5 makes -2 energy
3. when i get some dp (i also swap out headgears, superior/minor)
4. i hardly use wenslauss faith actually, but yes that would be it.

Im also confused about that.. more energy but come on, isnt sword a typicall "Solo" weapon?

I use same as Deluxe's picture: A 20/20 rod 20/20 icon
or the +1 healing, which I really dont think is necessary since it only give +1 occationally. I use it for the health. Also a 20/20 5^50 rod (there are 5 below 50 also to craft). Which works the same as the sword. But I dont like the appereance of a sword on a monk.

I find an icon and a rod the most usefull. Never did like staffs or swords in this matter. Being able to ask rebirth in 2 sec does the work for me. Also while casting other spells you dont even see the character move from its possition sometimes. It just goes to fast

Rebirth is a prot spell, so you'd need double 20 cast prot, which isn't that useful for prot spells as (apart from Aegis) they're all pretty fast casts. Besides, as you're talking about PVE, there's no need to quickly rebirth post fight, as you have all the time in the world.
Still, uber speedy casting is indeed fun.

Staffs are useful if you want double hp mods,
Swords are useful if you want a 20% longer enchant, unconditional +5 energy AND use a focus,
Rods/Wands are useful if you want double 20/20.
...and Katanas look awesome anywhere =) My PVP monk uses an FDS. Probably should buy/farm an IDS for even more l33tness.

Thanks all for the informative posts. So an axe will do the job too as long as it has the +5 energy mod?

First off, a katana is a two handed sword, so to be holding it with something in your left hand looks odd to me. Secondly, having a katana when you don't even use it to attack seems pointless to me.

One a final note, to me having a staff as apposed to a wand/katana+focus looks more "graceful". For monks specifically having a staff reminds me of the Shaolin and their various poll arm weapons.

That's just my taste anyway, take it or leave it.

Yes, i am curious too where u can get a rod like that...

+5>50 and 20% fast cast

U can't get it in Tyria, that i know for sure. It is a collector from Cantha or a craftable item in Cantha?

I have to get my hands on one of those

Steve For most of my monk healing builds I use a Stormray and a Incentol's Focus.

The stats on those:

Stormray:
------------------------------
Light damage: 11-22 (Requires 9 Divine Favor)
Halves casting time of Healing Prayers spells (Chance: 20%)
Energy + 5 (while Health is above 50%)

Incentol's Focus:
------------------------
Energy +12 (req. 9 Healing Prayers)
Halves casting time of Healing Prayers spells (Chance: 20%)
Health +30
