Skipping movies
Lithium,
its so annoying when u tell every1 to skip movies and they all do apart from one. I think that you should be able to go into the game once you have pushed skip. The other peeps who havent skipped should stay afk until it ends or they skip.

This has been brought up many times before. Generally it is a bad idea...
However, these days some cinematics take place as you're entering a town or something like that. In those situations I don't see the harm in jumping through them while others keep watching.
I wouldn't apply this to all cinematics. Ones at the beginning or middle of a mission for example. Having some people jump through them could leave those who wanted to watch the cinematic behind, with the difficult task of catching up to the rest of the group.
Of course, there is the usual problem of mana degen, health degen, minion degen, enchantment durations, enemy attacks, etc. not being forzen during cinematics, but that's a different issue.

I think before a cinematic, a screen should pop up asking if everyone if they want to watch it. It will add up the votes for yes and the votes for no and give it the majority. e.g.: 8 party members and only 4 say yes to the cinematic, the cinematic is skipped. 5 say yes, the cinematic is shown. Simple answer to a simple question... your welcome, lol.
Tarun
An option to skip them all would be nice, and have a type of Theater or Movie Hall or something where you can go to watch all of the cutscenes, etc would be great.

This issue has been brought up and discussed (argued) many times.
The responses seem to always be divided...between the "veteran" players who can't afford to spare 30 seconds to a few minutes to watch them, and the "noobs" who have never seen the cinimatics and feel they have the right to watch them.
The only problem I see with it would be if there was an MM on the team that was trying to keep his minions alive, or if the team was being attacked. Then I can understand it. A simple way to solve these two problems, though...would be to have the gameplay "pause" during the cinimatics (minions stop degen-ing/mobs stop attacking/etc).
As for the rest of the group going on ahead while the people who watch it stay behind...I don't really see a point to that. What if a key member of the group (Group Leader, MM, Monk, etc) decides to stay and watch it? You'd have to stand and wait for him anyway. *shrug*

It should be a majority rule. There have been several occasions where my party has entered a cinematic and they were getting attacked only to leave the cinematic with half the party dead.

I thinks it good as it is, I mean how long are the cin's? 30seconds to 1 min. Don't wanna watch it..... go make yourself a sandwhich, go to the toilet. lol
But seriously, Im curently making my warrior, and of the 10 or so missions he has done, about 7 of the cin's have been skipped anyway.
Ok i do see your point with minion master's "minions" dieing and stuff, so fair game there. But I don't think its worth putting in a whole new "anti-cin" system. But to be fair, i have never made a MM, so I don't know the annoyance having your creatures dieing is......
Well thats my opionion on the matter..... Morge

Yeah, we seem to be getting the same responses seen in many other threads on this subject. Let me save you the grief:
- Majority rules skipping is not going to happen and is a bad idea. It is not fair to those who are interested in watching the story, and forcing people to skip it is just plain rude - not the other way around where the non-skippers are rude.
- Minion degen and energy degen (for bonders) and other things are problems with the current system, but that requires a different solution, namely pausing them.
Ag3ofshadows
i dont mind the cut scenes but i do think a chat box should be featured into them
led-zep
non skippers arent always people who havent seen the cine, quite a few are those who have seen the mission about to end or whatever and decide this is the time to get a cup of tea or a nice biscuit while everyone has to wait for them, its even worse if everyone has agreed to skip beforehand and the one anonymous guy keeps it running

Some longer cinematics can be long enough for the poor war who accidentally left their vamp sword on to degen to death.
An enemy mob that somehow comes over and owns your group.
Also with the minions. They degen to death.
Tbh, I think the other threads get to a easy and fair solution: game is paused, and I am a bit bewildered as to why AN has not implmented this yet. Its not like its difficult to do.

Personally, the only times I've seen enemies attacking us during a cutscene is when someone rushed ahead to trigger the cutscene. Well, and Vizunah Square before ANET fixed it.
As for losing minions, if the mission is so hard for you that you can't afford to let the MM build up his army again, something is wrong with the rest of your team

I think you should be able to skip and kill the monsters that are attacking you during the cutscene.
Another /signed for making people invincible during cutscenes, and when the cutscene is over, give all party members a full heal on HP and energy. I have lost too many life bonds waiting for noobs to skip the cutscene, or died during one.

Then A.net should fix that. Party memebers shoudln't lose hp while in a cinematic. Everything should freeze while the cinematic runs it's course.
I agree, the best solution would be something that allows you to go back to and view any cutscenes you want anytime you want.

I'm a person who like cut scenes too and I'm a bit torn with this issue as well. I totally understand keeping minions alive, or if we're being attacked. there definitely should be a way to go back and revisit cut scenes.
cuz the cutscenes that are in the middle of the mission are inconvenient. (or just add a state freeze suggestion as mentioned). I mean, I kinda wanted to see that cutscene in the Mission where you get the Kurzick Urn, but my party was under attack and the roof was falling on our heads so everyone was smart enough to quickly skip it. The other issue, Master Times (which my party got btw in that mission), does the Timer keep going during the cinematic?

uhmm, no. many people don't know the story, and the only reason why i beat the game is to know the story.

If you pause/make invunerable for minions, people with vamps, mobs around the area, bonus timers, npc's getting killed, bond monks, etc than most vets wont *care* if a scene is skipped or not.

Doh, how could I forget bonders! x.x yes, as a person who regularly puts up 10-11 bonds yes its frustrating. Since once your bottomed out, your only getting 12 energy per sig.
draxynnic
One other option could be to have the OP's suggestion, but don't allow the skippers to move (or don't allow them to move outside a certain area). That way, the watchers don't get left behind, but people who need to keep minions alive, keep bonds up, switch weapons, and so on can do so.
It could also make for some interesting emote action in cinematics rather than everyone just standing there passively .

or if you want to skip them go with other elitest pigs then you can share the same sence of l337n3ss and holyer than thou attitudes while at the same time u can skip cut's and tell all your buddies about that noob you wtfbbqpwned in RA
Lithium,
Btw i have nothing against peeps who want to watch the movies. thts y i sed tht u skip it and they stay afk. I also think the idea where ur invincible in movies
Matsumi
lol ya, it's sort of going the same way it did last time this was brought up. People are super sensitive about being able to watch their movies, and judgements get thrown in everyone's faces. If you want people to skip, you're elitest, a jerk, impatient, a storyline hater, a PvPer, etc. along with depriving new players of content they have to see, otherwise they don't know how to play, or don't know what they're doing and why they're doing it.
On the other hand we have the people who refuse to skip for reasons primarily consisting of not wanting to deprive new players of storyline content. They also use it as a means to take a bathroom break, snack bar visit, walk the dog, pick up some groceries, eat a sandwich, make some coffee, and so on. Some have also said that they refuse to skip just because. Some say it's funny to watch your team getting killed during the cutscene.
It basically turns into a whining contest with no real point to it at all. Currently the situation is that we're still forced to watch the movies if 1 person refuses to skip, so I don't see who's winning here. Doesn't really bother me to watch them, I can just zone out on something else for a while. Sometimes I just go afk for about 5 minutes, and then come back to see everyone dancing or something. I've also ran into some that want to skip the small cutscenes in Dragons Lair that happen when you run through a portal, after killing a facet boss. That seems pretty extreme to me, because those are only a few seconds long. Last time I was doing the bonus there though, the leader kept making a big stink about skipping those, which made no sense to me.
What I think it boils down to with me is that, if I want to skip it, I should be able to skip it, and whoever else chooses to. I'll sit around and wait for whoever wants to see it, but forcing people to watch cinematics is kind of lame in my opinion. That way, if somebody hasn't seen it, they can sit and watch it, while the rest sit around and chat or something, or kill a few enemies.

I'll back either suggestion with a /sign. Either make it so when you skip you are back in the game, or just put a freeze on everything while you're watching the cut scene. Both are good suggestions. I'm surprised ANet hasn't fixed this yet.
Undivine
Actually what draxynnic said has me a bit concerned about this idea. Cutscenes depend on the players being in them most of the time. If you let people skip it and run freely while the cutscene is playing, that could screw it up, maybe even bug it.
Imagine the Lich walks to the portal saying "it won't be long now... not long at all," and a warrior runs up to him and /taunts and /dances in front of him. Then suddenly he stops walking because the warrior blocks his scripted path and the cutscene never ends.
While I think that would be hilarious, I'd rather it not happen. The cinematics are buggy as it is. Adding this new variable could be disasterous. What happens if the leader of the group - the one who's seen following and talking to Master Togo in the cinematic, skips and leaves. Then we either have nobody there or ANet needs to put in extra code to elect and teleport in a new leader into the cutscene.
I think cutscenes have to work as they do now... though as has been requested hundreds of times before, they need to freeze people's health and mana.

i like the idea of having the chat box visible... at least then we can comment about the horrible voice acting

I skipped most of the cutscenes in Prophesies, to be nice and not waste peoples time. I forgot one very important thing, despite how nice I was being by skipping for people, it was rude for them to demand I do so when I don't know the story.
Now when people get pissy about people not skipping, I voice my opinion. Most of the time they shut up, since I'm the monk and monks are even fewer in Factions than Prophesies.
Why should I not get my moneys worth? You did, it was just a little quicker than me, so I should lose out? I don't think so.
I do agree that there should be a status pause though. So that all degen completely stops for the durration of the cutscene.

yes, the cinematics are bad for minions, that needs to be solved. Otherwise necromancers with minions cant watch the movies
On a side note I have heard that some minion masters gets pissed when the rest of the team doesnt skip the cinematic , that they leave the team (and thus let their minions attacking the remaining players -often seriously damaging or killing them.
In the faction missions is kinda fun seeing the minions turn on the emissaries , but even that should be fixed -it looks silly

They should freeze health and mana bars.
But it's just rude to demand that players skip cinematics, especially by typing

Hold on a sec: although health, etc is not frozen during movie, I thought every character was restored to full health / mana at end of it? And skill recharge is reset also... am I dreaming this? Pretty sure you can't end movie dead...

beleive it or not, not everyone has beaten the game 6 times like some if someone hasnt seen the movie, im ok with them watching it. frankly it doesnt bother me most of the time except when you have MMs, ... if everyones seen it and you have a MM or ashes rit going .. then i think it should be skipped, otherwise .. lighten up

Health is recharged because you just stood there for a minute. If you were holding a vamp weapon, you do not get the normal health recharge since it interprets you as taking damage.
Same with skills etc. Let me tell you, bonders do not come out of cutscenes at full energy.
SpeedyKQ
I'll say the same thing I've said every time this issue comes up.
Anet NEEDS to pause the game and stop minion degen during cutscenes.
Aside from that, they have it exactly right. The right of the one player who wants to see the scene totally outweighs the rights of the 7 who want to skip it. Somebody who misses a cutscene they paid for misses out on a lot. Somebody who has to wait through a cutscene they have already seen misses out on almost nothing.

As mentioned this has been brought up before. Since the rules of the forum say that you are to post in the existing threads rather than making new ones I ask for a closing of this one. Yes the search feature has a mind of it's own but in this case it doesn't take long to browse through the forum pages looking at the titles. I know the titles of the threads can be vague but on this subject it is not the case.
As for the topic itself. Those that seem to post usually do for a reason. The following reasons being the most common:
Impatient to sit and wait.
MM with dying minions
Enemies are attacking
Vampiric weapon
For those under the first reason, take a bathroom break or get a snack. all in all too bad. For those under the following three, the best solution that has already been mentioned is the freezing of the game durring cut scenes.
