I'm going to buy a new laptop this summer, and would like it to run Factions if possible. I've currently got a shuttle running a Radeon 9800 Pro, a gig of RAM and an AthlonXp 3000+ 400fsb processor with a barton core, so a decent mid-range system.
I'd like the laptop to run GW this well, but I doubt that's going to happen as I have a budget of around £900 - preferably wanting to spend less, and as I'm a 3D modeller, I have a requirement of a screen that can do at least 1280x1024 resolution (or higher), so that's a money sink.
As a result, this is looking bleak
Has anyone any advice about laptops I could buy that will approach the performance of the machine I'm working with now, for under £900, that can run at 1280x1024 resolution or higher?
I've been told many come with Radeon X1400 and X1600 gpu's - are these any good for GW?
Also, I'm taking it with me for a year to Japan - so it has to have good build quality.
EDIT: I've also found out I can return Toshiba ones to a Japanese depot if there's a problem - so if it's a Toshiba then even better.

I run Guild Wars on a AMD Turion 64 ML-30, 1GB Ram, with a ATI x700 128Mb.
Run it at the widescreen equivalent of 1280 / 1024 (think its 1280 / ****)
Guild Wars is very good with this laptop, although i dont have full AA on, as it is only a laptop in the end.

And how much was that? If you don't mind me asking.

Around £900, about 6 months ago, so probably cheaper now

Whereabouts did you get it?

Turions will make you happy.

Indeed, Turions or P-M's. Both can be pin modded usually aswell for alittle extra performance. IMO to get the prices down more so get a lappy with a very low amount of memory and install your own. They almost always use shitty off brand stuff anyway, and it can often save you a couple hundred.
