Please help with a R/A build - I'm clueless.

I've only this week been introduced to Guild Wars, with the purchase of Guild Wars Factions… and I'm scared I might have messed my character up a little.

For this reason, I'm asking for your help. The character is a Ranger/Assassin, level 14 – not a PVP character for that matter. Someone had suggested the Assassin combination to me, but now that I've tried it out I fail to see the usefulness in it... So, I'm asking – nay, begging – for someone to help me make this character fun to play. What kind of build would you suggest that I aim for? I'd hate to have to start all over again.

Thank you for any help!

i suggest that you start playing a pure ranger.
maybe some assasin skills in it for healing.

1 question, where is your R/A ATM?
maybe i can help you out =)

Yeah, that's what I've been doing - I've got no Assassin skills in use right now.

She's just standing around in Seitung Harbour right now, considering what to do next. I'm on the European server, though.

[edit] Maybe I should've said: her name is Eluhni Dae.

I agree. Learn the basics of playing a Ranger, before you start tying in the secondary.

Don't worry, it's pretty much impossible to gimp your character in Guild Wars like in other games. If you mess up your attributes, you can just change them. If you don't like your secondary, you can change that too. Pretty much the only thing you can't change is your primary.

Thanks everyone!

My ranger is very much growing on me. I've finally grouped with some other people (rangers aren't very popular when people are looking for party members, it seems), and it was lovely fun. I've got her up to level 17 now - and playing her pure ranger right now, as per your suggestion.

The Skills-
Marauders Shot
Punishing Shot
Savage Shot
Throw Dirt
Whirling Defences
Troll Unguent
Shadow healing thing (gorgot the name)
Pin down or distracting shot

This build worked very well in Alliance Battles, becuase you an use Shadow heal for qucik heals while in battle and troll when there is a lull in the action, or no one is trying to kill u hope this works for ya

My R/A is lvl 20, and doing Tyria now. The only assassin skill I use is Recall. Other skills are pure ranger.
I never fight until death, like most GW players. Recall is a good option, if you are in a jam. It is also a good skill to lure.

This is my build for an R/A, more 'sin focused than ranger focused if you want to try going that way.. have been trying out variations for awhile and this comes out very practical in PvE and also works very well in alliance battles. Ranger primary is very fun for 'sins; expertise neutralizes the high energy cost of constantly stringing combos. This build in particular has a little more versatility, the attacks included can be run in two 3-hit combos or one 5-hit combo incorporating bleeding, knockdown, and poison. One slot for an elite - I find Escape helps in any situation. A nice long 75% evade if you're taking damage and a nice long speed to chase down fleeing enemies. 8th slot goes for rez sig, except for alliance battles - the fast rez mostly eliminates the advantages of a res sig so I throw in Return for another tactical edge.

12 Dagger Mastery
16 Expertise

Jagged Strike (lead)
Fox Fangs (off-hand)
Wild Strike (off-hand)
Nine Tail Strike (dual)
Horns of the Ox (dual)
Falling Spider (off-hand)
Escape
Rez Sig

OR

12 Dagger Mastery
14 Expertise
8 Shadow Arts

Same skills except Return instead of rez sig.
