Canthan ranger..

so i havent prophecies, and i can clearly see many of the best skills are not avaliable in cantha...my ranger feels gimped... i was thinking abt deleting it since my sin can outdmg it by far (and survival is also better believe me or not..) and can solo bosses....my rit also kicks ass, its a monster, got a necro MM, cant be much else without prophecies but it still kicks ass..

any1 know a way to make a canthan ranger decent? =/

buy the skills, or bring your ranger into Tyria and do the quest if you can, not sure since I haven't tried it.

dont forget that as ranger your role is to stay behind and shoot diffrent arrows, and not run ahead and tank. thats probably why u keep dying

no, the problem is that my sin can deal more dmg and survive longer, PvE boss farming is much easier when you have crit defenses (perma evasion) and can deal tons of dmg in a short time..

well a lot of good elite skills are in propheices, such as oath shot, punishing and cripple shot... but a good skill i can think of is melandru's shot which isn't bad at all. I started a canthan ranger and used all the normal ranger spike skills but i just had to go to tyria to cap punishing

I played an assassin and they definately out damage a ranger, but they DO not out survive them.

well i used R/E, but i was sticking with mostly ranger skills, could it be the problem? also i didnt get a pet or beast mastery skills, trapping doesnt look so nice in cantha and there isnt much room on boss hunting to run around

you see, the real problem is... Critical defenses=75% block lasts 6 secs (7 with xuekao, and can be kept up forever with crit eye, not to mention high crit=tons of energy) while whiling defense=20 secs 75% evasion...60 secs recharge =/

as for bosses i tried warrior, ranger, monk and assasin ones
my sin cant take the warrior or the ranger ones, (might with a build change, but i didnt try to do so yet) with the right build i can take on certain groups of mobs too (and i know how to gt out of shadow for alive and keep fighting..)
my rit.. hmm i dont think there is any bosses out there it cant kill O.o, maybe that baddass kappa elementalist boss on the jade sea (dont remember the place) not to mention rits can take on entire groups alone

Lucifer, part of your problem is relying on Whirling Defense for your defensive skill. Rangers can outlast even some Warriors, but that's because they're more mobile than most any class save the Assassin, and some would make a case for Rangers beating them, too. Whirling is nice, but if I were you, I'd invest in Storm Chaser as well, or Zojun's Haste. Or, if you don't need the elite slot for something else, the beyond-nuts Escape. Escape would probably double your Ranger's survivability alone and doesn't even require points in that annoying Wilderness Survival line.

*Sticks tongue out at other Ranger players* Yes, WS is annoying! Unless you're trapping, you have all of one good skill and two semi-useable ones in it. Don't talk to me about Troll Unguent or Apply Poison either, the one is expensive as hell for a really basic effect, and the other takes as long to cast as some bloody Binding Rituals. scroo yoo too

Anyways. Try and find Escape for survivability, and your best friend for attacking is Focused Shot. That skill does insane damage for its recharge and Energy, and the attack-lockdown aspect really is minimal at high enough Marks. Hit 16 Marks, bring Read the Wind, Focused Shot, and Escape, and you are a Tom Clancy sniper XP. Let's see...try this.

12 Marks (16 w/mask + Superior)
10 Expertise (11w/Minor)
8 Whatever (I honestly can't think of a vital third attribute. Probably, much as I dislike it, Wilderness at 8 + Minor for Troll. God I hate Troll -_-)

ReSiggy/hard res (if playing /Mo or /Rt)

Optimized more for PvE - if running in Random Arenas or such, put Pin Down in 4 or 5. Perhaps, if you're more offensively-minded, 8 + Minor in beast mastery and sling Bestial Fury. Or whatever the Tiger's Fury clone skill is. Or stick with /E and go with 8 Conjure Something, though 8 Conjure isn't a huge damage bonus.

Anyways. Hope that helps more than some of these idjits have, man . I know how hard it can be snaring something useful out of a forum post XP.

If you want to cap Escape, Stsou Swiftscale the naga in Maishang Hills (Near Gyala Hatchery in Luxon area).
