what features in Guild Wars: Factions that you like to see anet retain in future?
nimloth32
well, i know this might not apply to those who hate GW:F, but i just feel that some of the features in GW:F can be retained for the future chapters of GW like the re-used of those mission maps for quests, the dynamic mish (coop mish, challenge mish, etc), etc, etc
i am not sure about the pvp mini game..personally, i found that those maps are fun but it seems to have low popularity among the fans..
well, the above are some thoughts from me..hope that this thread does go into another ranting thread..cheers..

More mapping quests in the future! More locked gates!

yep, I LIKE the locked gates... No more running! PLAY THE DAMN GAME!
I love the re-usable mission maps... I've always wanted to go back over Fort Ranik or The Wilds maps for instance...
More maze like areas would be good, I love seeing GentleBreezes freaking out next to me when shes playing and getting totally lost...
Double layer mapping too (Undercity and Xaquang Skyway), GENIUS!

I'd like to see the territorial system explored again, but take alot of the communities suggestions on making it better. The idea was awesome, the implementation was abysmal.

Locked gates are fine and dandy, but please LET ME OUT!
Seriously, I don't mind locked gates, but when I played the hard way to get to Vizunah Square, I really don't see why I should go by Byway.... all the way to get back to the Undercity to claim a quest reward. The gate is *RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO* right there, it just doesn't open.
I see this as a flawed design.

Definately need more FEDEX missions, yup, yup.
Make the map even smaller next time so we can go over the same area again and again and again. And try to set it somewhere with more repeated textures, way too much variety in the citeh !

The gate your referring to is the gate to the FORIEGN quarter of Vizunah Square... Your character needs to goto the Local Quarter... its two seperate missions... once you complete the game the foriegn quarter opens up, but your character can't goto the foriegn quarter and do the mission with Mhenlo until then...

yeah, for me, locked gate is good..but if implemented unwisely, it will make the game too linear and bugs too..>.<..
besides, anet should also consider those who love exploration..
however, too many mazes will create more confusion..i prefer more open area with denser creep..GW:P has more open map but the creep are too diluted..i have to travel a long way before encountering a group of creeps..however, in GW:F, the distance between two groups of creeps are too close that occasionally, i accidentally aggro two groups at once..>.<..
just my opinion, i hope that this thread will not become another 'ranting' thread..;P

- Competitive Missions
- Challenge Missions (this is one of the best things they did in GW:F )
- More repeatable quests (gold, faction or both rewarding)
- More 12v12 Maps.
- Same or more variety of henchies.
- Keep over powered bosses ( you want his elite/green item you have to earn it ).

* Challenge Missions are lots of fun fun fun ^_^
* Elite Areas (High-End PvE is most rewarding gameplay to me at least) though with not so hard limitations. More like Favour related access.
* More areas like Shing-Jea Island. That place really brought me great sense of freedom when walking around. Favourite place in Cantha ^_^
* New Alliance Battles are very fun & entertaining, would like to see new PvP maps around HA in future.

Got to love the locked gates. Please hide them from us so we don't know they are there until we are authorized to go through.
Mazes and double layer maps, wow. There is no telling how many quests I have by-passed simply because I got tired of going in circles and got out of the city as fast as I could.
Repeatable quests and challenge missions? In oreder to maintain your good standing with your faction and even to play some of the game you need a good supply of faction points and what better way to get the required points than doing the samething over and over and over and over..... ad nauseam.
On this next point I may have misunderstood something somewhere. I'll not get to wear the Defender of Cantha title unless I (a) leave my guild to join "the other side"; or (b) convince my guild to change Factions and alliance because some of the missions are on the other side of a stupid line on a map.
Talking henchies. Since I have pop-up window #1 (or #2, I forget which) disabled I don't see half of what they say because they are behind me and I can't see them. The other half are in front of me covering up what ever it is I'm fighting. If they must talk, put it in the chat box with the rest of the team chat.
Having said all that, I much prefer the game play of Prophecies. I can go anywhere at anytime and choose to do this or that or choose not to do this or that and I've got the whole map to play in.
(Yes, I know all of the above has been covered before over and over and over and over..... ad nauseam.)
Since the OP asked for what I would keep; I agree with a previous poster - if you want a "green" from a boss, you have to work for it when you meet up with it. I also like having to think more about what I'm doing when I aggro a mob. Now, about those healer henchies....

Not so much a fan of the Locked gates, Maybe on the First go round but once you have unlocked a City on your account I think your 2nd through 6th should be allowed free access.
I really like the End game Material, I love the Idea of Special Merchants, Armor, Crafters and Pheonix after beating the Game. Just wish there was a Storage there cause I didnt bring enough steal the first time DOHHH!
Like the randomness of the Green Drops all over keeps one area from being Farmed 24/7 and killing the drops in that zone.
Would love to see the Pheonix have a AOE inferno or some kind of crazy AOE attack.
Double damage is Good thing except for the Dang Ele's!!! ahhh killing me Anet literally! -60 DP FTW!!!
I like the Skill point Quests and Purchase Skills vs Giving me Skills you want me to use. I think this makes for a more Diverse Game Population. More Specialization of Chars vs The Whole Cookie Cutter Aspect.
12 vs 12 ROCKS!!! (Just wish we could pick our 12 vs 12 and not random teams of 4)
Aspenwood and Jade Quary Are good Ideas but no one ever there to play need to find a way to get people interested in this maybe special reward or weapon drop similar to HoH

What to keep? Most of it.
Bosses in predictable locations is nice for unlocking purposes. Explorers now have their own title.
I like being able to explore the areas that I just did a mission in. It gives even more of a sense of progress in time. If that means some gates are locked, thats okay. I'm holding judgement on whether the amount in Cantha is okay until I have gone through with several characters (I actually think with later characters it will bother me less as I know how to get through them more easily and thus can plan my exploration).
Mazes and double layer maps are fine, a bit larger maps overall would be nice. As an explorer, I liked going all over Tyria. Cantha seems too small at times...
The maps where you hare two teams was nice, although relying so heavily on the other (such as in the beginning of Vizunah) occasionally gets frustrating.
Variety in location of green drops, etc. is good.
Henchie variety is good.
Shiro being set apart coupled with the end-game area is nice.
I think I'm a fan of double damage and half casting times, forces you to strategize and prioritize a bit.
Hrm, probably plenty more I'm missing.

Off the OP's topic.
Ok. I see I did miss something. Where can I read up on this? And what about gaining/loosing faction points?
Please don't tell me to use the search option. ATM there are only 2098 users on line and search is disabled.

My reccomendation: Beat the game with all your characters for one faction. Use up all your faction (wait till you have 10k, so you can spend it all in 1 shot and not have any leftovers) so its 0/0 on both sides. Switch sides. Beat the game with that side.
fiery
Fix the cinematics Shiro vs. Vizu/Visu, was not the greatest of battles.
WasAGuest
High powered bosses.
Explorable mission areas.
More co-op mission like VSquare, only adjust it so that if one side loses, the other doesn't instantly fail.

thx guys for supporting this thread..
i also hope that anet will keep the rewarding system of missions in GW:F..although it is unlike GW:P missions where you need to find the bonus, the 'bonus' in GW:F depends on your effectiveness in accomplishing your missions..and besides that, i also hope that alliance battle are not so restricting but more open..besides, i realize the amount of cinematics increases comparing to GW:P and the quality is better (except the Shiro Vs Vizu battle as mentioned by fiery ;P)..which i hope that anet will keep to that and improve it further..
OT: i know that this is more belongs to sardelac sanitarium section, but i just hope that anet will make a free extension of this chapter that explains the events happen in GW:F..well sorta like sorrow furnace in GW:P..;P
cheers..thx again guys for supporting this thread..

I think that the selected mission cities being locked for a certain time is fine, I have always been against the Droks run, but outpost should not and there are not enough of those. MY tyria characters are not doing most of the Catha stuff because I don't feel like runnin/fighting to the zone everytime, each zone needs to have 1 unlocked outpost or city.
Being able to view the premission cinematics later is a really good idea, but the end one needs it to, and the midmission needs to be removed all together
Pop up dialage needs to be optional and movable, so I can either turn it off of moved the boxes to a less obtrusive location.
Henchie dialog is funny and should stay but it should be in the team channel.
End Game rewards is a really good idea;
Prophecies; more exp that I don't need-wohoo-thats why my warrior left the fire island.
Factions; a green perfect weapon-nice-but my ele would like a focus item also, so you should get one everytime you kill Shiro, Good thing my Monk and Ranger won't need thiers.
So:
locked missions=good
locked outpost=bad
Viewing cinimatics later=good
midmission cinematics=bad
Henchie dialoge=good
not in team chat=bad
Pop dialoge=good
pop location=bad
End Game unique item=good
only getting one=bad

well, i would agree that the midmission cinematics are bad because sometime it tends to bring disaster to the team, especially mm..the midmission cinematics affect them the most..

I don't like the gates, not because I run, but because I like to explore. It sucks to have fought through mob after mob, have 60% DP, then when you reach the end of the map, think "great, I can go into that outpost and get rid of my DP" only to get there and have a gate. It isn't a huge deal, just annoying.
As for things I like, being able to enter a mission area as an exporable area is wonderful. Great for the exploration title. I wish they would do this for all the Tyria missions.
Also, I love the new armor crafters. Being able to mix and match stats and still have one look is great. Or mix and match looks, but have them all be the same stats.

Good points: graphics (especially in the Shing Jea area), 12v12 alliance battles are fun, nice to have new classes, new weapon & armor skins, CE backup dancers, etc.
Bad points: Everything else: quests, missions, storyline/plot, dialogue, etc. I'd say more & in more detail, but I agree there's no need for another rant.

When your character spoke to Guardsman Pek, he was out in Shadow's Refuge. However once you entered Vizunah Square, you cannot go out through the same portal. And so it was on my way to Vizunah I picked up a quest that involved me mapping back to Kaineng and speaking to a NPC, it was just somewhere outside Vizunah so I saved it till later. Subsequently I got into Vizunah, mapped back to Kaineng to get the quest completed, but when it comes to claiming my reward I have to... do the whole shebang again?!
Why can't I just go out through Vizunah?
No idea, typical Anet analness.
nimloth32
well, the quality of green weapons have improved comparing to GW:P....hope that anet continue this in the future..i also suggest that anet make lesser mid-level/low-level weapons/staff/ward in the future..it is because those weapons/staff/ward are rarely used..for example, katana, paper fan..those things are cool but due to the fact that leveling in GW is fast..we only really used things for a while..it is wasted i think..

More missions, outpost, pvp places, different scenery, etc. I was kinda disappointed that half the map wasn't even used.
Witchblade
more gates, more fedex stuff, more sewers, more forced pvp for pve players, less drops, more ugly flashy skins, more elite zones for a fewer number of ppl, more bugged missions, more not soloable/henchable quests, more assassin tanks only filled outposts for those quests, less gold, more walk in bigger maps, more u-have-to-have-a-nolife-guild stuff, sooner release, less playtesting, more expensive product, less char slots
Cjlr
I would be ecstatic about the locked gates...
If they were account based. That would be positively orgasmic. Doesn't kill runs, which are a godsend on your fifth character. Does force first-timers to actually play the game. What's not to love?
