Quality Chest Drops

Now that I'm bored stiff with Cantha, I've returned to my old friends in the Droknar's Mountain Troll cave. On my first run, the Trolls dropped 3 Shiverpeak keys. Conveniently, there was a chets nearby so I opened it and recieved this item:



Later on I found a Wingblade with the same stats but dmg +15% v. Hexed Foes. I salvaged it for the +20% and sold it for a generous sum.

I just thought I'd shine a light on this because it seems to good to be true (despite the improvements on rare drops, Chest items still have a bad reputation.)

If you decide to try this, please post your item so an informed decision can be made as to whether I got a lucky streak or there has been a genuine improvement.

No screenies of what i have got because frankly its not worth the effort. I still kill them trolls regularly and ijudging from the tat i come away with, you must have had one helluva a lucky streak. Unless.... those drops you got were meant for me!!!

Hmmm, I farm ice imps outside ice caves, open chests often, but still gold drops are rare and always sucky, 9/10 times it's a purple one, so you are indeed a lucky man.

I would call it luck as well, as mine seems to have left me recently. Perhaps you picked it up in your travels?

I was running around in Kurzick territory a couple days ago. I opened five chests, and all were purples. And the only one of those purples with a decent mod on it (a +5 dagger handle of defense) salvaged into--you guessed it--iron. I now have very little faith in Kurzick chests, considering I've opened around two dozen and only three or four were gold.

I been solo eoe bombing grawl lately, happy to see the farming nerf gone for a bit. Seeing I kill 30 grawl per run on bad days I get no drops from the whole mob. As for chests in the are around 3-4 I been only getting gold gears, a few sup vigor at the most.

I'm loving Kurzick chests I usually pull a gold out of each 2 chests. Been getting lots of perfect mods, some low req 15^50 and +15/-5energy max weapons. I already made more then 10 times what I've spent in keys, and kept alot of things for me...

Only in Drazach Thicket area I don't get this gold drop ratio because duel faction farmers are opening chests there too.

i been having fun farming forest minotaurs back in prophecies, got quite a lot of purple drops but only 1 gold and that was a crappy staff.

I've been solo chest running Mursaat areas for a few days now to get myself another gold hornbow. By myself I get nothing but purple weapons and lousy gold armors (that give superior beast mastery or domination). Then for kicks I decided to go with a PuG through the area. The first chest we hit I got a gold hornbow. A ranger in the group opens it up and gets the same.

I have a feeling that if you're with henchies or solo the chest drops are nerfed, but if you go with real people the odds of a good gold drop chest increase.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I stopped opening chests with my Warrior because I got focus and wands 90% of the time with him... so I started using my Monk and my Ranger and now it's like axes, swords, bows, staffs and hammers most of the time!!!

They do nerf the chests if you open too many. I was trying to max my title on high end chests opened and went from a gold here and there to straight purple. Don't get me wrong req13 purple with no damage mod is an excellent drop Point I am making is why do they put the title there and penalize you if you try to get it.

All this came from 2 keys which i brought for 800 Gold.

The title is the ultimate gold sink. You're not meant to add more gold to the economy by achieving the title.

Another thing I've noticed is that I've got to switch areas every so often or the drops go straight to crap. I've worked up a list of about 10 solo/running areas where I can get at chests. If I alternate between them I don't seem to hit the purples as often.

I have too been feeling the Purple blues...I can't seam to get a gold Item and when I do manage I don't get a max Damage one.. WTF???

I opened a luxon chest lastnight and got a sword with 14-21 gold w/ +5 defense at least. Kills me!

Yeah the non-max dmg golds are the worst. I'd almost rather have a purple (except that golds usually ID for more gp). The funniest part is that you get these nice weapons with perfect mods. It's totally frustrating to get a 15^50 bow with a max damage of 27. Stuff like that is why I stopped solo-farming for celestial weapons.

I'd give anything that had a blade. They shoudl make a title for me call " Raven Staff Magnet".

I swear everytime I open a chest 99.9% of the time it's a frak'n Raven Staff with crappy stats.

Maybe the game is telling me to make a Mesmer...

Completely understand Thursday night I was running chests in Tenakii and I got a Gold Celestial Shield 16 (req 9 str) -2 while enchant / +41 Health enchant ... Haven't seen 2 perfect mods on a shield since I got a Gold Buckler 16 Req 8 -2 enchant / -2 stance back in September Griffon Farming. Talk about making you cry!
