I posted about this once before but it seems to be lost and is a MUCH better forum for this.

The Targets: Mantid Drones and Monitors just outside the "closer to the stars" mission.

Why: Obtain Venerable Mantid Pincers for collector armor.

How: Good Question.

There are two small packs and one large pack (actaully a double pack, but very hard to break-up). The packs are a mix of blood necros and smiting/healing monks.

Problem 1: The necros had an enchent removal, and since they come in large groups, cover-enchanting will probably fail.

Problem 2: Both types have weak primary attacks but can spam armor-ignoring spells.

Problem 3: The mixed packs have plenty of healing, through healing spells and vampric attack skills.

What won't work: The standard 55hp monk build seems to be out of the question. A standard tank will get chewed up almost as fast as a squishy do all the skills in use and will not be able to count on healing enchants to stay alive.

What may work: A ranger build may work here. Either stay at the edge of agro so they just use normal attacks or try to spike-kill one at a time while using troll's and resiliance to stay alive. Run away to heal after each kill.

Elemental: I guess an ele using obsidian flesh with serpent's would be able to wade in. I'm not sure if they'd have enough oomph left to kill anything.

Any other thoughts out there?

Saw quite a few views with no posts - thought maybe there was some interest in getting pincers but nobody had a build. Anyway sorry for the double post but I got a build to work last night:

Standard Vamp Ranger:

Blood: 12
Exp: 16

Vamp Touch
Vamp Bite
Touch of Agony
OoB
Whirling Defense
Storm Chaser
Throw Dirt

Just fire up Whirling, run up and take one out, then run away with storm chaser to recharge. I found that taking out the monitors first works best. Alternate the two vamp skills to stay alive, if you are topped-off in health you can use ToA instead to save on energy.

Whirling is a bit dangerous - i think it makes the critters run around more which risks agroing other packs. Tonight I'll sub in dodge and lightning reflexes for Throw Dirt and Whirling and see how it goes.
