Skills in Factions/Prophecies

Hi, I own both campaigns, and I've just taken a character through factions. There are still a lot of skills he doesn't have. If I do the Prophecies campaign with him, will he be given more, or do I have to buy them now? I've bought some, but it's getting expensive

Many skills are only available in Prophecies, yes. Taking him through that campaign will net you the ones you're missing, if you're a completionist (like me).
However, Prophecies has a number of quests that provide set skills as their reward, so you don't have to purchase each and every one of them.

Is there anyway to take my factions character from the beginning of post-searing or do I need to explorer to that area since we start at Lion's Arch?

You can easily get past beacons, but at the moment, missions prior to lions arch are disabled for factions characters. They are working on changing this however, so expect to see an update sometime in the future that addresses this.
