PVE - Leveling: Which Secondary?

This is my first character in GW (I bought Factions and don't own Chapter 1).

My Assassin is level 11 (almost 12) and I just completed doing each of the quests for secondary jobs ... Just to keep my options open.

What secondary would you recommend for leveling a PVE assassin? I enjoy solo play with few henchman, but also would like to group once I've honed my skills and am not a complete newb anymore.

So....which is it? What compliments 'Sins the best?

I was thinking Monk to remove status (like blind) or Mesmer to break spell casting. I also thought Warrior abilities might compliment me ... But I'm not so sure.

(Also, the "Master" NPC told me that once I've chosen a secondary I can't change it, but this is contrary to what I've read on the forums ... Which is it? )

In Senji's Corner, there's an NPC that, for 500 Gold, will let you witch to any other secondary. Costs 500g the first time you witch to a new secondary, and switching to ones you've used before - on the sin - is free. Thus, Master Togo is lying :-P

A/Mo is popular for the stated reason - condition control. A/W gets Wild Blow, and Wild Blow rocks hard on most sins, as does Rush and "Watch Yourself!" Those are the most typical combinations, but for the creative, Assassins can be used quite flexibly.

Still, for a first-time Guild Wars player I'd suggest A/Mo. Lets you carry a reusable resurrect spell and also gives you access to self-healing skills, though most say that running Healing for self-heals is stupid. Still, can clear out Conditions, hexes, and keep yourself going to some extent.

Fantastic, thanks for the reply.

I'll just go with Monk as I was planning.

I'm happy to hear I can switch though ... I'll deal with Togo later. ^ ^

Hey there Aberfeldy, erm as I would say that Monk, Warrior, Ranger and Ritualrist would go well for Assasin.

Monk - Use it for condition removal like cripple and blind.

Mesmer - Removing Hexes as you said.

Warrior - Some Cheap and Good Adrenaline Skills - Watch Your Self - Its great for begginer assasins as they need that extra boost of armour, and can recharge instantly as Assasins has a very fast attack rate.

Ranger - Combining with some Critical Skills, shadow skills and marksmanship! - Some great builds you can do, capture "Barrage" elite skill, which makes you shoot 6 arrows at once! Use Sharpen Daggers and Poisen arrows, and use barrage to spread your arrows, they WILL KILL loads in a show period of time!

Ritualrist - I use ritulalrist while I'm a runner, use the restoration drop item thing (forgot the name, think genrous was here or something) and drop it to gain up to 200+ health in 1 sec! You can do it well you running, its great!

Hope this helps! ^^

Hm hm...as the first person to post/develop that barrage build you mentioned and as an avid Ranger player prior to Factions, I feel it is my duty to point out that A.) Poison Arrow, the Elite skill, cannot be used in the same bar as Barrage, and B.) Apply Poison, the Preparation, is useless with barrage as Barrage kills all Preps.

The Ritualist skill you mentioned is called Generous Was Tsungrai, and is indeed a remarkably potent self-heal/buttsaving skill - with a healthy dose of points into Restoration Magic, which isn't exactly useful elsewhere. Vengeful Weapon is good, Generous is good, but an offensive Assassin may have better uses for his/her Energy.

Erm, I did say only use Rit for running? :S As assasin can teleportin and use dash and dark escape, and while running carry the health item on him...

you drop whatever you're carrying when you shadowstep, so that trick won't work.

if it did, the luxon supply run will be amazingly easy on an assassin.

When I made my assassin I took mes for the same reasons you describe, I though the health degen for be favorable as well. After a while I discovered that I hardly use my mes skills at all, while some secondary classes may compliment assassin well, you may find as I did that pure class assassin is quite effective as well.
Don't forget the purpose of assassins, single target elimination. Not shut down, definatley not tank. Gotta find a play style that suits you then define your char around it, but don't forget the limitations on your class and work around them.

Good luck!

You don't need /Mo to remove conditions

Signet of Malice removes conditions and only have 8 second recharge

Go with A/W!

You can solo tank boss mobs with an assassin/warrior, so long as they don't blind or remove enchantements
Your assassin will also get some serious chain knockdown combo's once you cap shove

its really up to you, but as far is remember its not to tough to get to level 20 in a little over 4-6 hours of playing in Factions regardless of what you choose as a secondary, unlike in Prophecies were it took 5/8 of the campaign.

Each quest gives TONS of expirience, so you wont need to do much hench farming

Ive made a great assassin shutdown with only the assassin class, but thats for pvp....im sure pve is different :P
