Trade spam enforcement
Matsumi
Ah, finally they've taken the first steps at resolving the spam eh? Good. I didn't read all the posts, but I'm not sure why some of you guys have such an issue with the trade channel. If I'm looking to buy something, I turn it on, otherwise it stays off. Now all they need to do is, create more ways of filtering out these WT S or W T S or whatever messages into the trade channel. Also, maybe create a little island town that is accessible to all, where these guys can go spam their sales pitches in. Also, add on to it more and more until it becomes a fully functional shopping mall. Maybe I'll be able to turn the chat back on eventually. Maybe call it "Xunlai City" or something. lol

Perhaps the easiest way to get traders (who use local chat to spam their wares) to see the negative consequences of using the wrong channel is to encourage ALL traders to spam both local and trade channels.
Stabber
I find it extraordinarily silly that people who want to sell their wares think that they are not subject to the rules of conduct, or that the game must somehow make it easy for them to sell their wares.
Here's a hint: the vast majority of players have no interest in trading with you.
The small minority who might have an interest are monitoring the trade channel.
Anyway, going back to my opening post, what I want to know is if Arena Net has any intention of policing their channel usage policies.
Is the use of local chat for trading, in the opinion of NC Interactive, inappropriate conduct or not? Are any of these going to be enforced ever?

From: User Agreement 4 (j) In Guild Wars, characters have the privilege of sending server wide messages called 'Chat Messages.' With this privilege comes a high level of responsibility on the part of the user. Well i used to advertise my stuff in game. Not anymore. Why?
Because I would use the 'trade' channel and nobody would buy me anything.
Once in a while I'd shift my trade line to the 'all' tab and surprise! Instant ping asking price and stuff! (not always of course)
And why is that? Because after 10 sec of watching the trade channel you only see blocks of text passing fast, you simply can't read it anymore. Which sentence starts and wich ends?!?!? there's no contrast!
Now, after this filter, I think I shouldn't use the all channel anymore and moved to GWGuru Auction, It's slow selling but at least I don't burn my eyes trying to buy/sell stuff in the so loved trade channel.
At least change it's color!

I think a lot of your are complaing about things which don't need to be complained about.
Also a lot of you are missing the bigger picture.
Most likely this first implementation of the trade spam filter is a first step in the right direction.
Now we know it works for WTB and WTS, most likely A.net will improve the chat filter to get around people using W T B, WTB and buying...
If e-mail spam filters for prefessional companies can detect all kinds of "work-around" spam tricks, so will the chat filter in time.

Ummm...useing the local chat channel to sell anything is not against the "rules of conduct".
Dunno why people keep saying that. You may not like it, but no one is going to get banned for it. There is an old saying, "wish in one hand, and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first".
As much as you WiSH people wouldn't use local chat for trading, you can't change it. Complaining about it isn't doing any good, people have been complaining for a year and nothing has changed.
Pick your battles.

From User Agreement: repeated 'spamming,' or 'flooding' of the chat messages channel....Any violation of this term or rules of conduct may, in the sole discretion of NC Interactive, lead to the temporary removal of the character's ability to communicate, the account being suspended for a set period of time, or lead to permanent account closure.
Using the All channel to buy and sell may not be explicitly stated in the user agreement, but spamming is.

Here's an idea for a start, perhaps if anet implemented multiple trade channels in 1 district, all using different colours, (not anything near green or blue because of guild/team/whisper chat would get confusing).
The advantages that could come out of this would be:
a.) A lot easier buy stuff, since it all won't look the same.
b.) Traders will be more encouraged to use the trade channel since it's easier to buy stuff. Traders usually look for ways to make their messages stick out, and a different colour is the easiest way, therefore traders will try to use all the different trade channels.
I can't think of any serious disadvantages, but if there are any anet can always go back to the old system.

There's no improvement to the trade system. This filter does nothing. Once people realized that WTBuy kept it on local, what do you think they did? Instead of WTB, they used WTBuy. So, where's the improvement?
However, if ArenaNet is taking a firm position of anti-abbreviation/anti-acronym, then this filter works wonders.

What ANet can do is to make some sort of filter that everyone can use.
To clarify: Show only message with the words "blank" in the past "x" minutes
That way people can actually find what they want to buy faster...I think

i don't mind the trade spam that much because it only goes on in dist 1 and dist 2.
since the trade system is so bad, ppl need a way to sell their items. when i'm looking to buy something i tend to just look in local chat in dist1 because the trade channel is so over spamed that i can't even read something, thus i keep it off.
if i wanna quest, i'll just move to dist 4-5-6. untill an auction house is implemented, they should leave the traders be.

I noticed a few of you point out that the mass trade spam is in D1 of many of the major towns. And, yes, I avoid those places, right up until I need to buy something.
But, when there's 8 districts and I'm forced to turn off Trade AND Local chat in the first 4, what does that tell you?
I personally have had no problem selling various items in the Trade Channel. Usually because the people that are looking to buy things are looking in the trade channel. People almost never look to the local channel when they want to buy something. That'd be silly in all places but D1 of LA, Ascalon, Droks, etc.
There's nothing wrong with the trade channel, but the color they chose is a little hard to read sometimes. But, an actual auction house may help that along a bit. But, I doubt that even then the spam would stop, because the ones spamming in local are the ones that couldn't care less about other players. They think that spamming in the local chat makes their message "stand out". Well, you know what? It doesn't stand out WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IN THE DISTRICT IS DOING THE SAME DAMN THING!
...*sigh* I should really get some sleep. This subject (read: Self Centered Sellers) is making me angry.

whats next, banning people that leave ur party mid-mission? banning people that get disconnected for some reason afterwards?
i dont really see why people are bitching so much about the trade in general chat thing.. to me, the only thing worse than that, is seeing how some smartass makes fun of the players that do it and tells them to use trade channel
