R/Me Need Spiker Build
Dark Rasmus
I just started Guild Wars and they say Spiker Build is the best for rager with second prof Mesmer but which build do i need?????
SnipiousMax
1. Dual Shot
2. Savage Shot
3. Needling Shot
4. RtW
5.-8. Switch
That's the basic spiker. But what are you going to use this for? PvE? Then a spiker really isn't the greatest. You're going to want to bring damaging skills, and Dual shot is a good one when you use a prep, but isn't neccesarily the only one you could use.
If this is your first character, I'd suggest not worring about your secondary just yet. Focus on using a pure Ranger for now.
I usually bring
2-3 attack skills
1-2 interrupts
1 Evasion
1 Rez
1 Preperation
1-2 Utility Skills depending on where I am or what people need me to bring
2. Savage Shot
3. Needling Shot
4. RtW

The thing with PvE is that some monsters can easily live through a spike as well as spikes being energy demanding. Also, without orders Dual shot isn't as powerful..
I recommend SnipiousMax's suggestion, some damage skills, interrupts, whirling def, res, whatever else works...

What are some good mesmer skills and what should you replace them with
SnipiousMax
^ Well when you start getting into secondary skills....
I guess you could replace Whirling Defense for distortion. It's a little more precise than Whirling is, and you'll be able to use it off and on again as you pick up aggros, where with whirling you'll have down time with no evasion while it's recharging.
You could bring something like Cry of Frustration for a mass interrupt, but it will be a little energy heavy, so you'd need to use it wisely. Ranger interrupts are spamable, so it wouldn't be in your best intrest to pick any other up, but CoF is a decent enough skill. You'd just have to switch it out with one of your bow interrupts.
Migraine is a very useful hex. Again, you'd have to be careful when and how much you use it, but it would be very handy for handling the Spell casting bosses (especially monks). That one is an elite skill.... but you don't neccesarily need a Ranger elite to be effective as a primary ranger.
Another thing you could use that would be helpful is Hex removal. Mesmers have a slew of hex removal spells, and that would fit into your support role in the party. I wouldn't worry about this till you got to the later missions. This would replace the "throw dirt" skill in your support slot.
Pretty much, just look at what your role is (support, disruption, secondary damage, etc) and anything you can't do better with a Ranger skill, bring a mesmer skill to cover it!
