This is probably really obvious, and I may kick myself for even asking, but what does it mean when at an auction or something, someone will say "bump"? I tried to search for it but was unable to find any answers. Thank you for helping.

It's to make the post "bump" back to the top of the list. So people will see and respond to it. Old posts that no one says anything in anymore will just keep dropping down the list with out a bump. Don't worry about asking questions, its how we learn.

It means their thread will be closed the second I see it and if they do it again they will have several problems regarding posting ever again.

Yeah, it is an annoying practice. Usually when no one posts, it means they don't care. For the record I do not support bumping, but its good to know what it means.

lol sorry, but have to point out taht 90% of the new posts i have just searched has had calandae post at least twice in them, it just stood out to me, not saying hes spamming but i just noticed it and this was the last new post.

bumping is usually a sneaky attempt to get post count up by bumping at pointless times, like bumping a topic that you made 5 minutes ago, or someone really impatient wants an answer really quickly

It's also something very frowned upon on the trade forums. So many things are there being traded that posts quickly drop down the list. People tried 'bumping' them to the top to keep their items noticed. Violaters usually get a slap on the wrist and then have posts deleted.

I think bumps are ok to use sometimes. Not necessarily do you just say "bump", but just that if you have something new to say under a subject, and you dont wanna make a new one. So bumping is sometimes even respectable

But, people who send messages like "Yeah, youre right." should be punished if they sent it in an _old_ post.

P.S. Sometimes "up" is used instead of "bump", or something meaning the same

i think its okay to bump once, but after that it means the thread is useless

I seriously thought most people actually knew what Bump meant, but guess I was wrong:
