My vote goes to anti-farming code. Someone from my guild that goes everyday was complaning about them being nerfed.

I went into underworld, where my character hadnt been for a good 2 months..maybe 3 now, and promptly got 3 ecto's

/sigh. People hear 1 thing about nerfing and go crazy. No there not nerfed i did 4 solo runs yesterday and got 2 ectos. Then got on my prot monk and got a shard. Thats just from yesterday T__T

Dont belive everything people say. Even if you go on a dry streak itll come back around. Good luck.

Apparently they did nerf ectos.
Update - Friday May 26

* Opened missions that were previously closed to characters created in another campaign. Characters may now play these missions, but they do not earn skill point rewards for successful mission completion.
* Fixed a bug that prevented ectoplasm and obsidian shards from dropping in the Fissure of Woe and Underworld missions.
* Fixed bugs and made improvements to the following quests: Closer to the Stars, To Tahnnakai Temple, Return of the Yeti, Missing Daughter, Drink from the Chalice of Corruption, Refuse to Drink, An Unwelcome Guest, and The Beak of Darkness.
* Changed the type of chests that appear in Raisu Palace.
* Updated audio for Korean Factions cinematics.

Hmmm I'm thinking your less likely to get rare high-end drops (like ectos and shards) when you solo or you group is small but you get more loot and vice-versa for large group.

However its probably just me....again.

My SS/SV and I were showered in rares and purples on the couple of runs we did. One of the drops being a 15>50 hand axe. Co-incidental or part of anets fix today?

it was a bug - which means some people could have gotten shards/ectos, it was just preventing some players from getting it. geeze.

I don't see what's so hard to comprehend about that. It seems quite a few people got drops during the period when they "weren't" dropping. But I guess the vague description on Anet's site makes us all liars.

I didn't notice any higher drop rate of purples or golds last night though.

I had a couple good runs through FoW (2 hour duration each) with no shards dropping for anyone. Did another after the patch and we got 6 total. Slight difference in drop rates there, I could have understood getting only 1 or 2, but 0 twice...pretty bad odds.

Well, I really don't intend to argue this any further, but your personal account is really only anecdotal at best. It's already been stated that the bug could've been effecting only some people. Or maybe my run was before the bug was introduced. I can't really speak to either or those though, nor do I think anyone else can either. All I know was I got 2 ectos on the run I mentioned previously. You can take that how you will; create whatever explanation works in your mind, I really don't care.

Regardless there was a bug. And a few people who got ecto/shard would make that less than 1% of the entire game. So if you say there was no bug that would make you a liar.

Wow ectos are now selling for 8k at merchant. Way up from the 5k to 5.5k just two weeks ago.
