Aside from 12v12 (where you get Faction points to buy PVE TOWNS and Amber and Jade for PVE ARMOR), 4 new GvG maps (probably the best thing PvPers got), and the 2 random 8v8 arenas (Which are accessible only from PVE), PvPers got nothing exclusive to them with Factions, as opposed to PvErs who got tons of new maps, tons of new enemies to fight, tons of new weapons, new elite missions/competitive mission/storyline mission, being able to control towns, and new pets.
Here is what I suggest for PvP updates:
5 New Random/Team Arena Maps; Shing Jea, Jade Sea, Echovald Forest, Canthan (urban), and Raisu (palace).
Save-able Player Templates.
Make PvP-Only Characters more leveled with PvE characters; In the PvP creation screen, you should be able to choose 4 differant weapons and 4 differant shield/foci, as well as 2 differant armor sets (can have 2 differant boots, 2 differant chest pieces, etc, etc). However, there will be an armorer at each PvP-Outpost, allowing giving you as many differant weapon/armor combinations as you desire (and also saving time from having to recreate your character if you accidently put on the wrong armor/runes or wrong weapon/shield/focis).
Ability to watch your own GvG matches regardless of what your rank is.
Also, an NPC at every PvP outpost to change secondaries for both PvP and PvE (only if they've completed the apropriate quests, if they're from Tyria) would be really nice.

I have seen so many PvP statements that generally imply PvP is perfect and all that luxury stiff in PvE is a waste of time, that perhaps ANet was given the wrong idea - one that little could be done to enhance the game there.
I am a very infrequent PvP player, but since the game is instanced, why can't a randomization system based on coordinates be set up to use any coordinate in Tyria/Cantha providing 'X' amount of map, and no or minimal monster spawns (teehee). Maybe one time you get to fight in that tarpit lake east of Grendich, another the cul-de-sac just SSW of Yaks, another the Suqua Valley, another a small portion of the Undercity, etc. Instead of pre-creating specific arena maps that are pre-experienced - a generated instance of a portion of PvE explorable area.

Once upon a time, the PvP islands didn't exist
Then, they created the PvP islands and everyone rejoiced and lived happily...
ok, the reason why it was possible to implement PvP islands is because those islands were available to everyone. Now, you can easily say that it is somewhat incorrect to have a Canthan PvPing in RA or TA and... hello... they're in Tyrian maps.
So, to make things more universal in the PvP world, I think the islands need to be updated. Give a wider selection of new maps in RA and TA. That would be cool.
