The Farming Nerf

No this is not about Anet banning bots. This is about Anet making a really bad decision. Just today I was out farming new faction bosses when a box popped up on my screen. It said something along the lines of killing several monsters and rezoning to kill them again causes them to stop dropping items. This means that everyone who farms for money is out of luck. This is underhanded; to say players can't farm to get money is like saying that losing an arm is only a flesh wound. The fact that this was unannounced also raises issues. I know for a fact that this was only introduced today because I was doing the same thing yesterday and never got a message.

This was introduced LONG ago... at least 4-5 months, can't recall the date.

Not quite sure about 4-5 months ago, but I've been doin troll runs and they this occurred about 2 weeks ago for me.

Yep its was a long time ago and farmers don't seem to notice it.

Thats probably why you didn't notice any effect till now.

That is not a farming nerf at all. That is an in game tip that has been present since GW went live a year ago. You can turn the tips off in your option settings if you don't want to see it any more.

i really hate that farming nerf, it seems that my warrior NEVER gets any gold yet, he's finished factions, and i did not see 1 gold drop on him. whereever i go i appear to have nerfed it... shame really, i like my warrior.

Well, I personally didn't notice it until a few days ago, but I'm glad its there. That way people know why their drops are getting nerfed. Well, they'll probably bitch about it anyway, but the intention is there.

The thread creator was correct in his remark. I seed my characters or so i call it. i didn't untill recently turn off my tips. I never seen the message untill i seen this post and turned em back on to see. alas there it was... and then.. it brings me to this :

I've been thinking of posting something pretty much like this for a while (thanks OP).

Yes, it was introduced a long time ago. But now that there are bosses sprinkled all over, some of which are accessible after a short run and can be soloed. Before, namely in SF, we had to take on tons of large mobs to get to the bosses that we wanted, to farm their greens. Therefore, Anti Farm code didn't kick in.

Now that we want that one green from that one boss that can be soloe'd, this Anti Farm is really hitting hard.

There is NOTHING fun about running a boss 50 times in a row to get that one green. NOTHING. And I know it's meant to nerf bots, but it's hurting the enjoyment of legitimate people, and legitimate farmers.

GAILE has stated that they have nothing against legitimate people farming. GAILE, I beg to differ. When you nerf green farming in this way, it detracts immensely from the enjoyment of playing this game.

lol like i sid above ya I did 76+ and now basically given up. I did teh 3 bosses which was sunreach, faraharn or whatever his name is and the necro that there too. Thats 228 bosses + now and not one green from any of them. I have reset my drops by taking breaks away fro liek a day, going to other far away zones and doing different patterns. Also change my characters since have 4 that have beaten factions. Still no shield, chakram or whatever the necro drops. I also not soloing but have gone with people and henchies and nothing. I read somewhere that guildwars was suppose to have a good reward system but personally i think factions SUCKS. Thats right I said it sucks lol. I cant belive I wasted so much time to get nothing. And gold item other then chests are rare enough too so its not very rewarding. In all truth I can go farm in this one spot and get 100k in 6 hours and just buy the bloody shield. I have been finding that I buy factios items and then go farm in tyria since drops are non exsistent. Four characters throughthe game and only 3 green drops so far. I think thats lame. Either that or anet has bugged my account from getting any loot lol or I have the worse luck in the history of guildwars. Btw I have killed other bosses 25 + times too in factions with nothing. Did kenshin like 40 times never got his item either. Overall this has really put me off from the game, been playing less and also dont think I will get the next expansion if its anything like factions.

It's been this way for months. Search for anti-farming - posts go back to at least october of last year. I guess they all could be confused and posting about thier visions of the future, but somehow I doubt that very much and those of us that remember it from months ago are doing the same.

Go farm another area for a while, complete a mission or two, or go through several map portals - it all resets. Basically do some stuff a human would do and you wil be fine. Act like a bot and you get nerfed. Heck, go through the very first mission every so often and you get to start out all nice and shiny new on the farming code.

If it makes you not have fun, then go play another game. Really, I don't mean that as a smart ass response, there are many out there and not every game is not going to be for you. We've already tried the other way of doing things and we had inflation run so rampant that unless you farmed for hours you couldn't afford anything. It's been tried and it failed miserably.

Seems valid to me. I don't think the game should be about 'farming' - that's not very logical 'in-world-setting' wise. It's about completing the quests and the story, or challenging each other player versus player, or mixing these interests.

You shouldn't have a need to ever kill the same monster twice, other than the difficulty of constantly making new monsters and new quests making that impracticle.

Lol not about farming hahahahhah. I think thats the funniest comment I have heard thus far. First off if the game wasn't about farming they wouldn't have a bunch of different items to obtain. As soon as you go out multiple times to try and get that item you are farming for it regardless if you are soloing , using henchman or a full group. You can only complete the quests so many times until you are sick of it, and when you get bored of pvping need something to do. So whats left. Exactly you go out and farm to make a bit of cash so you can pay those retarded prices for items you want or hope you get the item you want to drop. Now you guys say its been like this for 6 months well I remember with the new tombs with theh end mesmer bosses that when it started all you need to do was go out the farthest zone away from it and kill a creature or two and come back and you would be good to go with green drops.

BUT!!!!!!

Its been noted that green drops are even rarer in factions and has been nerfed. Like I have stated and actually now I am at even more runs over the last couple weeks I have killed sunreach, falaharn and the necro that is just a jump and skip along the way and not once have they dropped one of their greens.

Thats with like I said resetting drops, going and helping other people with missions in tyria and canthan, using multiple chracters, zoning , killing in other areas. And still it has been weeks and no drop. Like I said I could go to my favourite killing spot make 100k in 6 hours without even dealing with an other player and having to sell anything and just buy the shield.

BUT!!!!!

For 5 days roaming to LA, KC and other places where some of the higher level players sell I still havnt even gotten one tell answering my ad that I wtb that sunreach shield.

Ive seen more urgoz flatbow then this sunreach shield lol.

Anyways I am up to 83 kills each on those three mobs after resets and days of on and off farming of them and still no shield or any green from them. That in my opinion tells me way to nerfed since i am trying just to get that shield for my war. And what makes it worse is the bs that I already have the end game shield with same stats from beating factions and I just want the sunreach skin.

Anet says there is a reward system in place but I disagree with that. Also note that when you pvp and get bored and have beaten game 4 times what else is there to do lol.

it is one of the ways to tell a bot from a person who is acting like a bot

note that the message states that the monsters will shortly in the future start giving less drops (your drops are unaffected til then)

there is a second message shortly after that one (didnt know about message number 2 did you?)

it says very shortly the monsters will have empty pockets.

the solution to this is simple

listen closely grasshopper to words of farming wisdom.

I havnt even received either message and my tool tips is ON. Still no drops after all the resetting I do. So no messages, tons of resets and doing different things. still no drops. hmmmmmm

must be a bug or something lol

yeah they used to drop alot.. there was an update and I have'nt seen a green after that- I'm almost sure they cut off greens completely lol I'm not joking.. think they do this on purpose cause it happened in sorrows furnace the same way.. there was a time when you could get bosses to drop a green every time in sorrows when it was released- soloers like me made a fortune selling tanzits razorstone for 100k + ectos by the bulk.. I made a small fortune selling wing's axe in factions but lately have'nt seen one green drop since the update.. the deep also has something funny about it I'd like to share (I believe your tagged after a certain amount of soloing in the deep) used to get all kinds of golds soloing the first 2 rooms of the deep elite mission and the chest would sometimes spawn in room 2 (room 3 have'nt figured out yet).. nowdays no matter if go and come back from other areas- the chest is always in room 3 and I get nothing better than a purple- the drops are still really good in a pug though

Thanks to Factions and titles I know exactly how many golds I've received, the counter stands at 77 at the moment.

My Canthan warrior char is 133 hours old and has finished Factions and is at Abaddon's Mouth currently, none of the time has been spent farming.
Nerfed? I've never had as many gold drops in GW before Factions was introduced.

This feature is older than factions itself.

Farming somewhere else for a bit resets it. I say a bit, I mean an hour or so.

Welcome to FACTIONS, here in Cantha we have too kill every monster atleast 3-4 times/quest and God forbidd next quest is in same zone lol

Load GW.exe
Log in
Choose your beloved character
Set up your farming build
Choose your desired farming area
Don't pay attention to the game just farm for fun with no desired weapon in mind, if doing the opposite you will never get any rares.

I've gotten this message over a month ago, it's nothing new...

I don't see how any non-botter has any grounds to complain about this. I farm mino's a lot on my E/Me for some quick cash. The 'anti farm' doesn't kick in till around 2 hours of straight farming. That's plenty of time to make a sizable amount of cash and loot. A short break and everything returns to normal. You should take a break after 2 hours just for the sake of sanity anyway!

I found 3 greens already in Factions while just questing and killing stuff, not farming - a mesmer off-hand, warrior shield and monk staff, so drops seem fair to me and are not any worse than in Prophecies. I could be wrong but I believe Factions was designed to be anti-farming and anti-running.

Ever think that, just maybe, this anti farm coding is not just for bots? That it's a way to control all farming. So instead of everyone farming the same (most profitable) spot they are forced to rotate. In other word they are forced to spread out to different areas so that you have more variety and therefore less of just one item flooding in. It's control over all forms of farming. Anet did say they rate players farming as being equivalent to bot farming. Hence this code affecting everyone in it's own way. Quite clever of them. Good go Anet.

It's in the hints part of GW, you know, like when you got your first weapon drop in pre-searing, and it said you should equip it?

Where do you get these ideas? Do you communicate with Anet in your sleep? Do they call you on the telephone sometimes? lol
