Here is something I came across... I hope no one els put anything up!

Quote:
At E3, we spoke with some of the Guild Wars developers about their extremely popular games, where they are right now and where they are going in the future.

"You don't have to be married to Guild Wars in order to play it," said Jeff Strain, the founder of ArenaNet.

Our host told us that Guild Wars Factions, which launched on April 28th, is the #1 Selling PC Game in the United States. Developers describe Guild Wars Factions as a separate game from the original Guild Wars, in that, unlike an expansion, either game can stand alone. The games do, however, have plenty of interaction, and the technology updates that were added in Guild Wars Factions were given as a free update to original Guild Wars community.

The Guild Wars business plan is unique. Players don’t pay monthly fees to access the game, instead they buy the game (or games) for a one time price and can access the world from that point onward.

"Players are more willing to buy and play when it's not pay and play," added Strain.

With expansions coming out every six months or so and costing around $60 each, this is the equivalent to a $10 monthly fee. However, it does not require a credit card, and does not require players to continue buying expansions. A player could buy Factions and no other Guild Wars game, and happily play it for life. While the follow up campaigns do not have as much PvE content as the original, players can still engage in PvP.

The Guild Wars team has found that their lack of monthly fees gives them a huge advantage. People are more willing to buy and play than to pay a monthly fee and buy new campaigns. Also, the lack of monthly fees allows players to come and go freely, without guilt over canceling their account or leaving it draining their pockets. “Players like choice,” is a common mantra for the Guild Wars developers and their business plan allows players to choose which (if any) new campaigns to buy instead of being tied to a subscription fee.

We also spoke some about the Championship structure, and the professional PvP that has risen in Guild Wars. The Last Pride, the guild that won the Guild Wars World Championships in Taiwan, was at E3, taking on all comers at exhibition matches. Guild Wars is, currently, the only MMORPG being played at a professional level, and the developers intend to keep encouraging this with new championships every campaign and more regional-level play.

Next up in the world of Guild Wars is Campaign 3. Due to their rapid release schedule, there are two teams working at Arena.net on the next two Campaigns so that new Campaigns can be released as quickly as possible while still maintaining a high level of content (i.e. one team has been working on Campaign 3 for the last 3 or 4 months, and the other team just started on Campaign 4, so that each Campaign has about a year of development.). Sadly, they couldn’t give us a name or many concrete details on the upcoming campaign; all we really know is that campaign 3 has a North African setting, with sweeping African plains and Egyptian-esque temples. In a short trailer, we saw monsters that resemble African animals such as elephants and hippopotami, but with a fantasy twist. We also saw concept art for some new player classes, but no information about them other than the art. One of them looks like a heavy melee class, and the other has a tribal caster feel. We also got to see the new dances added in Guild Wars Factions. Two shadow NPCs play backup dancer to your character in a series of moves, including the wave and a puppet like segment.

The original Guild Wars theme was Western European, Factions had an Oriental feel, and the upcoming Campaign 3 will keep with the North African scene. Out of curiosity, I asked the developers what they planned to do for the future, especially when/if they ran out of appropriate and interesting regions to emulate. While they don’t see this as being a problem anytime soon, they see potential in expanding into mythology, or moving forward in time even to a sci-fi Guild Wars if there is player demand.
New campaign... new world...new classes... new opportunities...

There will probably be less PvE content because if you really think about it, players need to be able to meet each other quite often, rather than there being like, 2 or 3 people meeting in an 8 player mission.

Think about it, in 2 years or so there could be about 6 chapters, all with new PvE content and it would be REALLY hard to meet people on older missions with that much space.

Sci-Fi Guild Wars, now that would be interesting.

Too bad the majority of the players of Guild Wars... actually... it should be:
the majority of the forum members of GuildWarsGuru.com adopt the "Who moved my Cheese" concept.

ANET would implement player ideas posted on these boards if there is enough demand and support from other players.

A few examples would be:
- assasin profession
- abolishment of refund points system
- infused pet
- infused henchies
- titles
- etc

Can't blame them, they just make what the community wants.

Well I'm all for the cheese concept, as long as its not 79492% harder than the previous chapters, as factions was to prophecies. Playing factions has actually made me less addicted to GW than I was before.

I'd love Anet to do sci-fi.. but a Guild Wars chapter expansion thats sci-fi would be stupid at ungodly proportions XD

Bring on the tech!

as for chapter 3...
Jeff strain said each chapter would have some special 'thing' about it.. Chapter 2 having warring factions and you picking one to ally with...
any speculation on the third chapters special 'thing'? any at all?

Ya..good point. Yet it still sort of stinks to think it'll be less PvE since that is really all I do. I just can't get into PvP. Guess that is partly why I haven't gotten Factions yet since I've read Factions has less PvE than Prophecies. Not to mention I flat broke and can't afford a new game either.

The sci-fi thing could be cool, if handled right. In order to integrate it with the existing campaigns you could go with a steampunk theme. Throw in some black powder rifles.

O_O sci fi? That would be very interesting, as long as its not technology based (i dont think something technology based would be good in GW....)
There could be like floatin castles or somthin, and its the home of the mursat from proph and the spirit people/things from faction (the ghost like things, i forgot what they are called). If done right, it would could be very good.

Also, ya henchies should be made smarter and/or better. You have to play completely differently with henchies than you do with normal players which is anoying. >_<

I can't of any "special thing" GW hasn't used yet so i have no ideas at all of what chapter 3's "special thing" is.

If factions had factions as a "special thing", what was prophecies "special thing"? Was it longer missions cuz thats the only thing i can think of...

Who's to say they couldn't just go with a few chapters that are nothing but content, without a story (missions)? Maybe several new PvE instances and PvP games, new items, and tons of new armor, as well as a ton of new titan quality quests. They could even let those quests expand on backstory of areas in the game.

That's honestly the only way I can see the game still working after six chapters. Six chapters with their own story will probably spread people out too much.

That, or they need a worldwide, cross-chapter LFG system where you can search for parties based on descriptions/missions needed. Heck, this shouldn't even need to be considered. Such a system will be required very soon, maybe even for chapter 3.

Did you SEE the pve of factions? There were 13 missions (slightly more than half of ones in the original), all of which were much shorter than the original missions. The entire pve part of factions was to let you choose a side and get to the pvpve missions.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Ritualist and Assasin, and the new pvp stuff. But the pve of factions was much weaker than the original GW. (I refuse to call it "Prophecies."

No... please, nooo ! ! ! That's the day when I quit GW... I really love the medieval/ancient theme, no matter whether it's European, oriental or whatever, but never never shall it be Sci-Fi.

I'd actually like to have refund point systme back, it was challenging to kill the "Dobbie" (my pet-name for the unclassified horror in Prophecies) with a healer monk. It really took me hours and hours to get the refund points to turn my monk into smiter... and then back to heal I loved it, gave me reason to just go out there and kill stuff.

Arena Net this is your only warning from me.
The more you downgrade the PVE side of GWs, the less copies you will sell.
Because of the bar set WoW, very few players will purchase an MMORPG strickly for its PVP content. Plus, you will be alienating thousands of customers like me who spend all of their time in PVE. I have no problem staying in Tyria for the next couple of years. You won't get one more cent of mine unless the product has quality PVE.

Umm....you do realise that WoW has a real crappy PvP. Guild Wars is dominant in PvP between the two, whereas WoW has better PvE, everyone knows that.

I would guess then, that is why WoW stomps most other games with subscription numbers...? Perhaps if GW would take up the "obviously more popular" game play style (PvE) then GW would gain more players? Is that what I am reading here?

About the sci-fi i was thinking along those lines as far as .. not sci-fi but alternate dimension or something that focused on the land where the Oni come from.. I love those guys.. it would be alienish i suppose more than anything else but the imagination would be the only limit on that land which would be great.
