Guild Wars is a very tactical game, and good community really rocks, and in my opinion, it's nosense that you have to use Ventrilo or TeamSpeak just to be able to talk, and chatting is way too slow. So I wondered, why isn't there an in-game support for something like Ventrilo or TeamSpeak? I'd love to be able to see who talks without having to minimize my Guild Wars, and it also would be alot less trouble. You'd have different channels to talk, like your Guild, your Team, or even 1 to 1 (like Whispering).
Wouldn't this rock?

it's already possible to get the data from a instance of Vent/TS, just nobody has programmed something to do this. But basically you'd need an external app or a dll injected into gw.exe that checks the status of ventrilo and displays it by means of using opengl to display it over the game.
would be awesome, but don't think anet would do anything like this. especially if they had to host it.

or.... you could read.
GW is saying that they are getting this implemented... didnt say how or when though.

The main problem for ANET with this idea would be the increased bandwidth costs they would then have. So I'm not expecting anything more than one of the voice-com programs integrated with the guild wars interface, but we have to setup our own servers.
For a serverless voice-com system, you would need more bandwidth on your connection for each person that joins you, instead of a fixed ammount if you use a server (the server takes more bandwidth for more people). So a serverless system would be unusable for me with more than 2 or 3 people in the channel, unless you degrade sound quality.
But that would force us to use whicever system ANET decides we should use, even if there are better ones out there. For instance ANET officially supports us using TS, but vent gives me much better sound quality. I like being able to chose the better option, and being able to change if the better option changes.
I also doubt there will be any preformance advantages for intergrating voice-com into guild wars.
In short, I dont see any advantage to integrating voice-com into guild wars, but I see several problems with it.
/unsigned till someone gives me a good reason why its a good idea

I waste enough time on these forums, do I have to look around for news on game improvements now?
j/w.
One other thing about an integrated voice comm sys in Gw is how a similar thing has worked in other games, in fps like Battlefield 2..never saw it used much, and didn't seem that good anyway. (imo.)

Doesn't X-Fire Have TS in it? and Doesn't it insert itself into games?
