Dumb question, but what are those dark striped lines in the short pigtail like hairstyle of female elementalists (seems to be a popular hairstyle)? Are they supposed to be ribbons?

Seems to me just to be some type of ribbon,string,something like that to keep hair in place mabey? Or just design

They don't look like ribbons to me. Looks like it's just dyed or something.
