Exactly, so why wouldn't you choose extra energy over extra armor? Scars are the best for a SS necro in my opinion, since you will be using a lot of 10 and 15 energy spells as N/Me.

Wrong. For each group you'll need to cast echo, ss, ss, reckless haste. That's 20+15+15+10 mana. 60. Without scars you'll have to run the -regen weapon/offhand just to cast normal spells (I often switch to them in the middle of a large group if I run out of energy or when fighting smites). You definitely need as much energy as you can get. Scars give you enough armor to run away from smites, which is all you'll really need. You can't hope to protect yourself from aatxes etc.
A tip for FoW is to bring Inspired Hex, this allows you to remove SS from a party member, get 3 copies of SS on your bar and get some energy back.
