Are Trolls worth anything anymore?!
Anti-Theory
I'm a little new to the farming buisness. I just recently finished my Mo/W farming build and I tried to farm the Mountain Trolls outside of Droks.
Well, i've gotten next to nothing except tusks when the job is done...What gives? I had heard about some farming locations being nerfed because of over-farming. I have seen pictures of some of my guildmates farming trolls and getting great drops (I.E. Superior Runes)
Do i just have extremely bad luck, or are there better places to farm?

no you just have very lucky guildies because u never get golds from troll farming!
Ulivious The Reaper
i got a black dye troll farming yesterday :| i don't think they're nerfed, they've just been like every other farmable area, you have to get lucky
mrcake
yea i had a gold raven staff and 3 purples all drop at once the other day whilst troll farming, there was also another 3 golds from previous runs that day including a gold fellblade (fell for the other person i was with).
But they usually arent very good..

You can't get runes from Trolls...

The occasional gold items you do get from trolls are crap most of the time. i have experienced that when they do drop a gold they will almost certainly drop some purples as well. This only happens like once in 30 runs or so. So if you want drops, go farm something else.
Only good reason to farm trolls is for xp i guess

Farming trolls I tend to get around 1 gold drop per day(I maybe only make 3 or 4 runs per day) and 2 or 3 shiverpeak keys, which I have had ok success with.
This is really the only place I farm, as I dont know any better farming locations in tyria, ive tried minataurs, griffons, hydras, but the best drops I get are from trolls.

I don't know. When I first started Troll Farming shortly before the Griffon nerf I recieved a Rare and two purples a run. Now? I get around 10 purples a week. I try to do 10 runs a day. I haven't seen a gold in three weeks.

Lay off the farming spot for a day or two and the drop quality improves. Trolls are uber-overfarmed though, so you probably won't ever get much there.

Clearing the troll cave isn't the only thing you can do on a troll run. How bout the avicara? They can drop some pretty nice swords. Also theres a group of Tundra Giants that I like to farm. Good drops every once in a while. Just bring Balanced Stance or it gets messy.

Depending on your build you may want to try Dolyak Signet as well.

well i ust did my first run of trolls for about 1-2 monts and i got a black dye

When i (breifly) farmed these for skill points with my warrior , i hardly ever got anything of worth. So after i killed the Trolls i would go kill the Tundra Giants and Azure Shadows (pretty much farm my way upto rankor).

In many troll-farming builds, you don't run past the avicara. Rather, you kill them.
Ergo, runes, or at least the possibility of runes.
Shiverpeaks chests also give a lot of runes.
In my case, it would be more accurate to say I farm trolls+avicara, actually.

it's weird though. Oh, and now they added this bug to farming, that when you spam damage. I.E. Zealot's fire & 3 spells in 2 seconds the monsters will all run around, not a problem, but a BIG PROBLEM when you are powerleveling people.

You mean the "bug" they introduced in December?
What are the prices for power leveling anyway? How many troll runs do you need to do to get paid how much? And does the customer need to be alive to get the XP?

Well I started farming trolls with my ele recently and Im making some decent money off of it. Since they I could kill the cave entrance in about 1 min and a half it adds up fairly fast. I sell everything to merchants except the tusks, which I sell to people buying them in droks for a decent income.

To clearify this for everyone. I think he is referring to "Troll Farming" as fighting mostly everything out there. I.e. Tundra Giants and Avicara, both of which drop armor that come in rare variety. This is where they get superior runes.

I'm slower than that, not because killing the trolls is slow but because I have to fight battles on the way there more often than not. Do you run past anybody? I just kill them all. More fun that way, if less profitable, and anyway I have an earth build where that's the only option.
Well, I guess you could also just walk to the cave while guys are attacking you and have a huge slaughter once you get there, but that would slightly increase the probability of something going wrong and killing you, and besides I think there's a real risk of body-blocks preventing one from doing that anyway.

I got 2 black dyes in a single run doing this, but besieds that, trolls suck
Lurid
I love trolls, I make a nice income off their tusk alone.

My offensive spells are inferno phoenix and flame burst so the rangers make it difficult also.

Got it.
I use an Ether Renewal build, which is probably slower, but definitely more versatile.
I guess if I get bored with it I can do the Mist Form build for variety.
How often do you die using this? (Disrupting Chop + Mist Form = unhappy elementalist, I would think.)

(Disrupting Chop + Mist Form = unhappy elementalist, I would think.) not very often, I use Whirlwind and cast it while theyre down, so no probs there, if I get interrupted its when I cast Phoenix or Channeling sometimes. The main way I usually die is if I get unlucky and I wasnt able to kill them all after I use mist for the third time, or when I cast another spell when its flashing and dont get it off in time.

Got it. Thanks.
I think Earth builds are probably, all things as considered, as good for killing, but I must confess they fall short on the running side.
