...and I was wondering if you guys could tell me which skills are the best to use early on in the game? I'd like to know the most effective skills to get through the earlier sections of the game.

Also, can anybody recommend which attributes I should specialise in (illusion, inspiration, healing, smiting etc.)?

For my Me/Mo, I specialized in Domination magic and Healing. The skills that I use almost exclusively:

Empathy
Backfire
Energy Drain
Conjure Phantasm

Healing Orison though interchangeable with Word of Healing
Healing Breeze
Heal Other though interchangeable with Healing Seed
Heal Party

Usually I only carry 3 of the above monk skills and then have Rebirth, Resurrection or Restore Life as well.

Sorry to say I've always had to "sell" my Me/Mo as a Healer's Assistant to get invited into parties. My healing skills are on par with my mesmer skills.
