How much more damage do I do? I ask this because if the extra damage gained from having a high strength is negligable, I just plan to use tactics instead for my pve warrior.

As far as I've been able to tell from practicing on the
test dummys, strength has no effect on damage done
outside of strength based skills.

Strengeth adds 1% AP for each level: This is how it works.

With 10 strength, a target with 60 armor will be like beating on a target with 54 armor. Whats that effect of that lower armor level? Higher damage!

Calculation:

Actual Damage = Base Damage x Defensive Adjustment
Defensive Adjustment = 111% (this value was obtained using the formula at this link http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...nics-id674.php)
Base Damage = The random # you hit, lets say 16 with and axe x 1.15 bonus for health >50 x 1.2 for custimized weapon = 22.08
Actual Damage = 22.08 x 111% = 24.5088 (game rounds up to 25)

Answer:

In this scenario, a 16 that would normally hit for 22, hits for 25, 3 damage. This effect gets exponentionally larger as the random number increases and is devastating when you get a critical hit.

Conclusion:

If you're into this sort of stuff, open a spread sheet and plug in those formulas and numbers to experiment for yourself!

If you would prefer a chart of how much strength adds, try this on for size.

The chart makes 3 assumptions:

1. You are 12 mastery (13-17 are available, but I don't have the webspace for them)
2. You have the bonus mod, say 15>50
3. Your weapon is customized

How to read:

The top row shows the armor level of your target, here you have to do a little math. If you use penetrating axe or anything that cuts through armor, solve for the AL of your target (60*80%=48). Find the armor level of your target in the first row, that is the column you will use. Next find the random hit you made, lets say its a critical hit, 28. Connect the row and column, and you find that 20% AP added +9 damage.

The inherent bonus to AP from strength only applies to attack skills. Normal strikes don't gain anything from strength.

Strength is not worth with only 1% armor penetration ( armor penetration itself is not good too ). To illustrate this fact in GOOD gvg guilds Shock Warriors and any other kind of warriors use mostly tatics for the Healing Signet, the spare points go to their second profession attribute.

To sum it up, if you want damage, max out your weapon attribute, Its more chance of criticals, more damage on the base calculation and some more damage due to skill damage.

Which is why its so bad. The only advantage it does have is that it always takes effect if you use a skill. I usually run it around 10, but thats only because i don't need excess points in Tactics. If i'm going for pure damage with no healing i go for 14 (the Knights helm looked cooler, plus this was before i understood many of GWs calculations), even though i'd be better off with the extra 1 in my weapon skill. Thanks to the book trick though i haven't played my warrior properly in high level areas in a LONG time (haven't played her since Factions fixed it either), so that'll probably change.

Does bring good luck though, if you bring IWAY you can almost guarantee no-one dies Least thats what happens to me alot anyway.
