IMHO.. my take on Faction's PvE
generik
In summary:
from Kaineng all the way up to Maatu = mindnumbing
from Sunjiang onwards = interesting (provided you already has 10K factions so your character can advance through without a hitch)
after Imperial Sanctum = no more content
What's your take on the new PvE conten? For some reason I *really* dread the content prior to Maatu.

god i hage from kainge to matuu...SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring.
From matuu to after luxon/kurzick run through is alright considering the pvp element to obtaining faction.
After that its pretty awsome just getting end game armor/weapons ect.
I dread taking my mesmer to matuu....gawd this is gonna suck

I've taken 2 characters through Factions and with all the boring city stuff and the needing 10k luxon faction and not enough unique quests to get it I can't see me bothering to take my other 3 characters through Factions, let alone try one of the two new professions.

oh dear... more single minded solo pve'ing opinions.
upto maatu was just the same as the jungle, everyone hated it and dreaded it, but when they had rushed through the game and got bored they went back to maguuma ... and suprise suprise, the jungle is probably the most interesting place with really rich in scenery and the missions are actually fun and challenging and everytime you play it people enjoy it.
Keieng seemed like hardwork the first time, but the second time around, I really enjoyed it! its really atmospheric and interesting.. and it was all done with before I knew it.. oh and this time around, there are LOADS more people to play with.
I've got a good guild a good alliance and good friends.. its amazing how much better a multi-player game gets when you actually play it MULTI PLAYER!
people always say the dread doing keieng, but when you get some good players together its really easy and great fun!

I would have to agree that the fun stuff doesnt really begin until Maatu. The claustrophobic feeling of the city just plain sucks to me. It's no fun pulling one group and 2 more suddenly running full speed down some alley to kill my party. The spots after maatu are just more fun to hunt in for me. and dont worry generik, I doubt you're alone in hating the maps before maatu.
Pompeyfan
Erm where did I say I solo'ed it all? FYI I'm in a large guild and alliance and a lot of them feel the same way - way too much back tracking and covering the same ground and stupid time limits.
Kaieng isn't hard work because its a challange it's hard work because it's so bloody boring, unlike the maguuma jungles which I actually enjoyed - worst part of propechies for me was the desert, but even that pisses over factions.

i think mr snowman with his narrow minded 'i know how all people play the game' opinion doesnt realise we dont all think the same as him. general feeling from looking at this forum is that the people who hate the city area more than outweigh the few who like it.
as with the post above me, i have not seen an area as bad as the city in prophecies even though i do hate the jungle even after returning to it a couple of times.
in my opinion the city area is a mindless boring grind with no reward other than progressing and its a shame this is the only way someone who has finished the missions already can actually get another character through.
and the 10k faction to proceed and the nerfed missions that made getting it easier? what can i say, anet you know how to put people off from playing your game dont you, did you do market research for that. some of us would actually like to do both sides missions without having to faction farm to get through.

Before Maatu Keep it Sucks, this is my opinion, and if u not happy stick a sock on it.
You the narrow minded if you cant understand and dont want to understand people opinions.

Playing through the first time is pretty good. The 10k faction quest wasn't any trouble since I had already 12v12ed in the preview to 10k faction. Now the second time through I'm avoiding playing altogether cause of that quest.
MaglorD
Time limits are there for a challenge, so ppl can't take their time to fight, run away, res, repeat like in Tyria.

I dont see how Factions PVE is any more mind numbing than Prophecies PVE. At least this time it's shorter so we can get on with our PVP.
Retribution
I don't think theres any part of prophecies anyone really dreads besides the jungle, and you can skip that completely by getting run to riverside or sanctum cay and not miss much, but the city to matuu, UGH man I literally breathed in the fresh air of pong mei (fat little sister in chinese lol) valley as soon as I escaped the stench of asian ghetto

Sigh, actually before Maatu is the best part of the game, IMHO. I loved the cityscape so much than when they finally get around to letting us buy character slots I'm going to buy a slot for a character to run around the city doing the quests, then delete her and remake.
Snow's single minded players reference was written in response to:
1) The fact that a lot of you seem to think you speak for the majority of us, when that clearly isn't the case. I know a number of people who love the city area as much as I do.
AND
2) The fact that a lot of players don't like running around with other players and if they can't do it with solo or with henchies it must be too hard, too boring etc.
I loved the city, I loved getting out of the city. The landscape in Factions was incredible, every single part of it.

I actually like the feel of the cities, but running past the illusionist for the 29085th time on the same character is... annoying. People would appreciate the landscape more if we didn't have to appreciate it again and again and again and again and...
lg5000
Wouldn't that depend on the person?
I enjoyed the quests in Keineng and the Kurzik quests and the Luxton quests. Some got a bit boring, but that was an indication to take a break and do something else/play a different character/do a mission instead of questing. Did I feel like strangling the ministry? hell yeah! Then again, if you really want to know what the civil service is about in any country, those quests give a great insight into it.
Most memorable were the ministry quests for their frustration with the ministry, the part where you drink the corrupted challise, and the luxton quest where you get to do the expedition with the sea monster. Oh.. and on the island, the assassin's quest Panaku gives you.
On the other hand, my Tyria ranger walked into the city and pretty much freaked out. A ranger isn't designed for a city, and the city feel is a little too much for her, so.. looking forward to getting her out of the city asap.

Instead of being eager to get one character through the entire game, to then dread doing it all over again 5 (or 3) times, how about picking one side, accumulate your 10K faction, have all 5 (or 3) of your characters accept the befriending portion of the faction (without trading in your faction for amber/jade, if you can resist), then enjoy the second half of the game for a longer period of time. (Rather than having to feel like you are backtracking with your other 5, or 3, characters). You don't need to farm any faction, ever, to progress all your characters. One character alone can get the rest of your characters through to the end. And if all else fails, set your own goals, rather than relying on ANet's team to create your imagination every step of the way. Of course, this is my opinion, but Factions is a very refreshing element to a world I came to enjoy over a year ago, and I'm still finding new goals (no, not the titles) for myself every day. And as far as the amount of content Factions provided compared to Prophecies, look at it as simple math: A new chapter every six months, Prophecies took 1 year (25 missions), Factions is going to take 6 months (13 missions). Relatively, this is the same amount of content given the time span. And we got Sorrow's Furnace in Prophecies to tide us over, which I feel was a very nice gesture on Anet's part. Oh, and don't forget the holiday events!

I enjoy the look and feel of the city but do feel as though the quest are very dry and I have very little interest in continuing since my PC is already lvled... thusly I have not yet made it out of the city. Still at Vizunah Square quest. (please God let this quest pass from me and continue with the game!).
The problems I have is no real engaging story line. I start as a student learning to be a hero... oh... what's this? Lo, there are rumors of a plague that besets the land. Ah! rumors are true... we must off to the mainland and the big city... the big city where I will make it big and be a big star... and run past the damn illusionist about 50 million times.
It actually sound kinda fun when it's dramatized like that but omg, will the henchies shut up... if I see that stupid joke about how many Am Fah it takes to fix a wagon again *sigh*. Henchie chat is where I get the "big star" part of my dramatization... they are worse grievers then the snobby elitists! "Master Toga should have fired that old headmaster and made me headmaster years ago... I am 10 times better then he is" ...At least Prince Ruick in Prophs was funny and amusing... always gave me a good laugh… makes it sad to see him die in the Shiverpeaks.
Other prob with the henchies is that when you die... feel free to take a potty break or get a snack, maybe something to drink.... you might be rezzed by the time you get back. I think that is why I am more then over the henchie chat... they have a full fledged conversation until one asks why they are all standing there... A-net should have the healer hench say "oh... my bad... I forgot to rez the only non-AI entity here... won't be a mo."
I am a solo’er and enjoy the relaxed pace of doing the game & quests on my own… and it’s nice every now and then when I want some company I can join a PUG. So for me the henchies are enough for me not to enjoy the game I switched over to Prophs as soon as I could. I am honestly glad that I did not buy the game but it was gifted to me. I enjoy being a ritualist and I enjoy the city scenery but tell me that it gets better (dear God let it get better) and I will give it another try.
~Andi – at least I am now closer to God… I find that we talk more when I play Factions…
*disclaimer: as I am just home after a 4 to midnite shift this post might be a sleepy rant that makes little sense to those other then the sleepy.

I've hated City to Maatu mainly due to Assasin and npc groups.. due to difficulty with pugs and the ability to get in to them
Once I got out (2-3 weeks of casual 1-2 hour play 3-4 days a week) I'm actually having fun again.
One thing I'm glad is faction is account based vs character base so I can sit on 10k faction of the group I want when I take my 2nd character through (ele from C1)
I don't anticipate my monk has as much trouble at least

As soon as I get done with the city, I'm never going back. Admittedly, there are the occasional rare spots of color, but ususally you're too busy dealing with a mob to take it in.

Before Maatu - just....just....omg bleh (okay, I'd like Vizunah if not for Assasin overpopulation)!
After Maatu - Oki, interesting and short
Never got the "bleh" feeling in Prophecies though (ok, except in Hell's Precipice, that was a real bore for me)

I hated the first mission on cantha from tyrea the first and second time I tried it.
Then I played MM and Healer in it. PWNS! I've done that mission 4-5 times as MM or healer now.

Arborstone and Boreas Seabed are before Maatu Keep, and those are fun, and not in the city.
I didn't think playing from Kaineng Center to Maatu Keep was bad for a Tyrian character, because you can just do the primary quests and missions. Doesn't take that long.
It gets much more tedious for a Canthan-born character, because you really need to grind through all of the silly repetative quests in Wejuun Bazzar and Bukdek Byway to get from 15th level to 20th.

I personally think the whole Faction is boring. I prefer going back to GWP and repeating some of the quest there, its more fun then Faction.

Seems that everyone feels the same way as i do about the first 50% of factions, boooooring, i cant stand that crap, on my 5th time around and i have to do it in small parts as i get sick of it very fast.
Didn't anet do beta testing? surely they would be better of deleting half the game, its got no replay value at all.

you guys that hate the city missions need to read why you are doing them, I find them all cute.
Like getting "Salving Problems", you talk to everybody only to find that the last bottle was taken by a rich to "enhance his performace" for his wife that left him any way. Or "To High a Price" where you rescue a girl being held as collateral from a lone shark, you have 2 options: pay back the loan or kill the loan shark.
The quest are not mindlesss running arround, they actually tell a part of the city life story.
The quests are easier with a little planning, just do the whole zone at once. You can get a second healer from Napui Quarter which makes things a lot easier.

i personally love factions more than prophecies, in prophecies it was really how long it'd take to get to where u want to go not what mobs am i going to face, in factions its more of a challange and i love the path crossing that the mobs do now, means u gotta constantly watch out for mobs coming towards ur fight in prophecies it was just one mob to the next without any real trouble.
i think the problem is people got too used to the way it is in prophecies and now when ur presented with something that takes some brain power, u moan.

The only thing that was hard was grinding for factions to continue with the story line(thank god you only need to do it on 1 toon) the rest was just a long run back and forth.
And the End Mission.
That one should be the hardest one to finish, as it is now you can get master on it with 7 henchis, lot's off Brain Power used in less than 2 min. lol

I liked the jungle too, the desert annoyed me.
The city is, well, I dont like it much. I got my monk, ele and necro thru bits of it (my mesmer refuses to leave kaneng and has returned to tyria to get a bunch of titles instead).
My monk has gotten the farthest even though my lag is soooo bad sometimes I wonder if I am doing much (heal party a lot).
I was happy to see the green areas south of maatu keep and the arborstone mission was fun (and the spear one too)...but I was dreading returning to the city to do the next quests and missions (my lag seems worse there)........and have not progressed beyond that for now.
I have worked on the way of doing the bazaar quests with the am fah being nice, so all I need to do is run from point a to point b with no mobs of fighting in between....makes it much less mind numbing since its quicker. But I still dread trying to get a group for my non-monk characters (my guild is tiny).
So for now my mesmer and ritualist are hanging around tyria while my monk takes in the sites of cantha, my ele and necro are still wondering if they like cantha or not.........but they both want new armor so they are working thru it.
I am disappointed with factions, my monk is on mission 8 (I believe) and there are only 13 or so....which means he is more than half way and I am hoping that the next part is more fun. BUT it seems way tooo rushed for me (prophecies took me 4 months to get 1/2 way.....)......so I am feeling a bit let down. (and no I dont pvp....try it with 2-7second lag and see just how long you last, not to mention the multitudes of err 7 recently)
