So pretty much every, if not all, spells in the Channeling line do lighting damage.

Now, i might not be far enough in the game with my rit (i just got "closer to the stars" but ive noticed that many of the monsters/creatures/gangs have more of an immunity to lighting damage than others.

I see channeled strike hits for 82 damage.....i cast it...it does 64..sometimes even as low as 40 or 50. Now, my numbers may not be exact or correct, but it gets the point across that at least in the early stages of the game, channeling rits are less effective.

I have noticed that stuff like mantids take higher lighting damage, but im not gonna be farming them all day and night.

So, can somebody tell me if the future enemies lighting resistance will not be so great once i reach echovald or cavalon? IF not, ill just stick with my restoration rit.

i too notice that the damage actually done to enemies does not match that of the spell desctiption. i dont know why, but i do know it sucks. i have stopped using channeling.

its called armor :P - enemies such as warriors and rangers have higher armor ratings than caster classes, and lightning being an element gets reduced by armor (somthing like 20% reduction for every 20 armor ?) but also notice how some enemies take MORE dmg than stated in the skill description due to their lack of armor

Uhmm I don't think it has anything to do with armor. Warriors and rangers do have higher AL but warriors' armor are not as foreboding towards elemental attacks (rangers are though). But it seems that most monsters hold a certain immunity to lightning dmg just as in Tyria there are certain areas where the monsters have armor against fire dmg.

Off course its rather stupid to use elemental attack against a ranger thought. They have a natural resistance against all elemental (+armor and stance if needed). One thing is certain, unlike Ele air, you can do lightning dmg to many foes at once instead one target (and 25%armor penetration). I created a topic during the FPE about certain builds and combo for area spike dmg which it has a potential as a Rt/R but it looks like a bit old now..

My Ritualist does around 50-60 lightning damage vs warriors. About 50 lightning damage vs Rangers (sometimes less). About 98-115 vs others. It is based on tye type of profession you are going against. Warriors have higher rated armor, Rangers have elemental defense armor, and others (except maybe elementalists) have normal armor vs lightning damage.

If you notice, monsters in certain areas are more resistant to certain types of elemental damage than others (including in Tyria). So, don't think that Lightning damage from here on out sucks. Its just weaker than normal vs certain types of monsters.

Just like you won't use Fire spells in Hells Precipice (unless Winter is out), or you wouldn't use Ice spells vs Siege Ice Golems.

Don't just forget about Channelling skills just because you encountered some monsters with more resistance to lightning. Just remember which monsters lightning doesn't work as well against and then go to different areas and see when it does.

What I want to know, is how the freaking Rit boss on the way to the temple mission hit my monk with a -240 channeled strike! I was even wearing a wanderers set. What on earth is he doing that I'm not? (Besides being a level 26)

Did you see if that boss was holding an item? If it holds something (ashes, gear, etc.) then it does extra damage. My party beat the Temple mission with little difficulty.

Also, did you face imps in Hell's Precipice? Those stupid titans can do massive fire damage to you. Way beyond what you can do at level 16. If you want to do that kind of damage, you must go against weak monsters. Its tough, but that is the way the game was made. If you could do 240 points of damage with 1 spell only, then the game would be even tougher (normal monsters would be able to do the same thing). Its level and your armor are the key differences between the damage you can do and it. The only way to mitigate that damage is to have better defense vs lightning damage (Mantra of Lightning, Protection vs Elements, etc.).

Bosses in Faction do about 2x-3x high dmg than normal and cast/recharge faster. You havent got Ancestors Rage in your face thought. For that, you're lucky.

I love being a Chaneller. I love to use three moves in a combo.

Spirit Rift (3 sec activation wait after u cast)
Ancestors Rage (2 sec activation)
Drop Cruel Was Daoshen (1 sec activation)

This is a nice combo, it all activates in about 2 seconds, and it works out to be about 250 dmg when I use it. It also affects all adjacent enemies, so it works great on mobs. The only bad thing is that it consumes a fair bit of energy, but I have Spirit Chanelling so I don`t have to worry much about it. It has been working very nicely on level 20 afflicted so far. (I am in Cavalon atm)

Clamor of Souls is a great Channeling Magic elite. And back to the topic, yes I also have noticed monsters early in Cantha be resistant to lightning, and few Channeling spells even have armor penetration like air magic from an ele.

Its all how you go about it, I have a Channeler/Spirit Rit. Where i use the high damage channel spells and damage spirits (shadowsong, pain). May not be the best, but it works for me. However, im usually a restore rit cause monks are scarce sometimes.

Gaze From Beyond is nice because it does damage regardless of armor...so that usually coupled with Spirit Boon Strike will do niec damage and heal your spirit back up.

I was channeling through Naphui with a ranger and i noticed that his Spirit of Fav Winds works for Gaze From Beyond and Essence strike. This would be nice for a Rt/R with bow spike +gaze from beyond... hmmm IDEAS!

Well, maybe when you play Channeling/Communing at the same time, you can use Painful Bond for more dmg when your spirits attack. Even more fun, Painful bond gives it to adj of your target foes too.

Well I don't like running in with cruel was daoshen since I don't like to tank dmg (unless I'm playing my war or armed with a solo build) so I usually put points into restoration (I don't always trust healers =) and channelling. Generous was Tsungai than I drop a Spirit Rift and the 3(s) for the rift to open I cast channeling strike. I either help out healing party or energy tap something while I wait for my skills to recharge and if needed I drop ashes for a quick heal if needed. I find channel spiking slow, energy draining, but quite rewarding in the end =] All I have to say is it's not fun spiking when there's an MM in the grp =/
