Guild Frustration

I have been in over 15 guilds and not one of them was good enough. So after leaving another not-so-active guild yesterday (in which i was in for like 5 days), I decided to do something that I've never considered really doing before. I made a guild. I went and made the cape, bought the hall etc. So now it was time to do something i've never done really done before, Recruit.

Me, being a pvp-only kinda person, it was a no-brainer to have requirements of r3+ (dont want mending wammo noobs) , exp in GvG, HA, and AB, and have vent + mic. So the best place to recruit would probably be HA, but I decided it would be better if instead of spamming my recruiting message in one district, I kept changing places. So for about 15 minutes, I kept switching between the HA american and international districts, RA, TA and balthazar tample (or whatever its called) and in that time, I got about 10-20 whispers. About half of these were questions like "How many members in your guild" and "Is your guild a fun guild or a serious one?" The rest asked to join, but when I asked if they were r3+ they either said "Huh, r3+ what's that?" or "Almost, Im r2". Only 2 ppl said yes, and they both lied.

I refuse to believe that there are so few r3+ people. I cant decide what to do. Can anyone who's started a good pvp-based guild tell me how long it took them to get enough people and how you got around to it?? Yes, i only tried recruiting for about 15 minutes but still... Im not just gonna make another no-standards guild that recruits r0 noobs and has a rank of like 2500.
I would definitely abandon my own guild to join a good pvp guild, but it seems that none of them recruit/exist.

Now that factions is out, there are alliances, which makes it harder to recruit. What should i do??? Should i give up trying to recruit??? Are there any worthy pvp guilds out there that would take me??? Or am I doomed to go in and out of worthless/inactive/noob guilds for the rest of my life?????

I think you should not limit your audience with rank requirements. There are alot of unranked people that are enthusiastic about pvp, some have deecnt knowledge of pvp ( unlocked all skills)

I think you should look out for people with
1. most skills unlocked
2. really likes pvp
3. really important that they are active and on most of the time

Well I actually you pretty much have all your answers in your post, you emphasise on rank, skill unlocks and pvp experience. All of those say nothing about the person you are trying to recruit, we all know many have gotten their ranks with iway or some other flavour of the month.

Same goes for skill unlocks and gvg experience, those two things say absolutely nothing about a person attitude or ability to adapt in the game. Just says I’ve done it more than others, doesn’t mean it’s been done right by any means.

I’ve been in only 3 guilds since the first wpe for GW, been in a recruitment position twice now and never did I recruit anyone from advertising in game, nor have I seen anyone else in those guilds do it.

Unless someone is referred by a guild members, then recruitment always came from fan site recruitment threads and watching the lfg threads as well, then come the application *thing* and you have they fill up a small questionnaire and no not questions like what rank are you.

Yes this way is a lot trouble, is more time consuming in the end, I personally don’t think so since your new recruits will fit much better in your guild and therefore stick around for much longer.

Attitude is everything, it’s a lot easier to transform an inexperienced gvg player into a decent one with the right attitude and willingness, than it is to transform a rank 6 that think he’s all that because he got is rank from doing iway only.

On a final note, no decent player or very few at least (including attitude here of course), will even respond to a recruitment advertisement in the in game chat, so of course you are basically shooting yourself in the foot if you are going for that option as your pool is considerably less interesting that way.

This may sound like it’s a lot more trouble and time consuming, in some way yes but again you have to think long term and proper recruitment and selection will save you a lot of time down the road as your members stick around more, your recruitment is return becomes less of an ongoing activity.

PvP guilds are hard to form, they are usually just a core of close friends which are all rank3+. I dont think ive ever seen a rank3+ guild which is big.

lemme tell you right now that is it IMPOSSIBLE to start up a new competetive pvp guild without a core group of friends.

pvp guilds are always in need of active pvpers and thus the pvpers can pick and choose which ones they want to join. obviously, they're not going to join a brand new guild without a reputation. and of course to get reputation, you'd actually need players, and since it's difficult to find those in random districts, this is where your core group of friends come in.

now, i'll explain how you can pull some people into your guild to get your feet on the ground.

first, you'll need a decent sized network of people you've played with. contact these people and find out if they are content with their current guilds. there are always guilds that are semi inactive or just isn't on the playing level of some members. these are people that you can sway to join your guild.

second, you need to get your guild name out there. play a lot (hell, you don't need to win that much. just don't end up in a complete disaster.), this will let the community know that you are active. the number one criteria most look for in a guild is activity. since it's likely that you won't have enough members, you will have to guest additional players. if you're successful, some of your guests may decide to join you.

third, you better get ready to play a lot while fielding requests to join. its one hell of a job so be sure to make a ton of free time. also, step up your pvp game. if potential members find that they're miles better than you, they'll jump ship quickly. high level pvpers respect other high level pvpers, so make sure you're up to par and can earn their respect.

I abandoned my guild idea.
I joined one that has like 70 members, seems to be pretty active and somewhat organized. Its a rank 3+ guild, so I'm guessing that the people will actually know what they're doing. Their rank is like 150 atm but with only 2 days into the new season, that might not be completely accurate of their skill level.

I didn't make a guild just to be the leader, I was tired of guilds that had something about them that I didn't like. I would MUCH MUCH rather be a plain member of a really good pvp guild than the leader of some random guild that's lucky to be on the ladder.

Yea I can see that now. Problem for me is, only 2 of my friends (in real life not in the game) play GW. And 1 of them aint much of a pvp'er, the other is in a guild that he doesnt want to leave. The rest of them play Wow or some other crap. I'm trying to convince my best friend to just try GW, but no, as far he's concerned:
Max level in GW=20. Max level in WoW=60
Therefore, WoW>GW. Stupid Fatso.

Its kinda sad and unfair how factors in real life affect your game experience.

As long as you use proper builds, and know what the maps are like, they cant judge u that much. If they see u make a mistake u can always blame it on lag or something.

Drawing on my WoW experience of guilds, I think when I bought guild wars and I saw it as a "GUILD- game" primarily. I was shocked at how there are still guilds in GW's that fall into the same activity level as some of the guilds in the game I used to play called WoW.

Member recruitment should really be a 2nd part thing to creating a core group, In My Opinion.
With voice over IP the possibilites are endless to actively seek guild members. One thing I'd like to take part in is a boss hunt in some difficult areas in the game 2 x 8 player grouped guild members partaking in pve battle and prizes awarded to members for completing a specific task.
This with core members IMO would also open opportunities for more recruits and I think would be an ideal starting (foot-up in the game). The undercity or sewers came to mind.

Oh and i started playing guild wars almost two weeks ago. I really love it.

Sorry in advance for the double post , but I admit I sorta skimmed some of the thread.

I just think , from what I watch of the observe games (I've never competed in GvG in GW's), of pvp that team work is the main part of the game. All of this from my WoW playing experience is knowing each other well enough to expect what the other will do and the rest just falls into place.

I wish you the best of luck with your guild and on the ladder. I think considering finding ways to train with your members/guildies may help with team work and player skill. It's possible a player may not even feel 100% for that character. And I think you need 110% to be the best.=D

I think It's up to you as the guild master how you want to proceed but get em acting as a team and enjoying it and I promise you'll see results, as I have in WoW.

-Just to add, having rambled on enough, but keeping the guild together is the hardest part of guilding IMO.

heh i remeber when i was recruiting for my guild and the leader told me to recruit r3+ so I went around HA,TA ect and had about 3 or 4 whispers all of them had either 1 or 2 rank and 'nearly there'. As for WoW>Gw because it has more levels is a joke.....

hehe one of freinds thinks guild wars sucks because there is only 20 levels... funny how he complains about level grinds when he plays RFonline and WoW.
