Hey, I was wondering if ther ehave been any plans or announcements made concerning the addition of the more traditoinal aspects of MMORPG gaming to Guild Wars.

I am aware that the developers of GW have made it clear that GW isn't a MMORPG, and is a new form of MMOG, I was just wondering if anybody has heard anything on the more traditional aspects of MMORPGs, for example, crafting/mining etc.

If not, how much would people want/like/dislike the idea of adding traditional elements to the game? I thought perhaps as a bought expansion pack, and therefore something that wouldnt be compulsory for those who didnt want to have crafting etc. skills. This wouldnt mean that those who craft items couldnt sell them to non-exp pack owners mind...

Any thoughts on this topic?

Guild Wars is not an MMORPG. It's a COORPG ( Co-operation Online Role Playing Game )

What you cannot do in Guild Wars:
* Use any kind of potions
* Meet other players while doing a quest

Don't get me wrong, I understand that there are a number of aspects of the game which are significantly different from MMORPGs, to me it seems to be a change on top of MMORPGs instead of a completely new genre. It is a different kind of game, so a different name for the type of game it is is justified, it just seems more to be a subcategory of MMORPG, ou get my jist?

1. I wouldn't consider being able to use potions a paramount defining factor in calling a game an MMORPG...maybe its just me?

2. OK! There is the main difference between Guild Wars and the MMORPG genre! But all the same, as far as I can see, the only reason ArenaNet have given for not having crafting skills (in the traditoinal sense - levels/developments etc.) and other such MMORPG traits is that it adds to the 'grind' of playing the game.

I understand their wish to avoid as much grind as possible in Guild Wars, but surely if it were an optional extra package, provided things like the in-game economy were carefully balanced (a job I never envy a MMO/COO developer), then it could only add to the game experience for people such as myself who like the idea of crafting and other traditonal MMORPG elements (e.g., crafting (in all its guises), fishing, cooking, lumberjacking etc.).

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I liked the idea that the avatar I have has skills beyond the scope of bashing/slashing/burning/freezing.....etc.
