I was asked to post this issue in a Fansite forum, because ArenaNet I guess doesn't take comments or suggestions directly.
With the latest patch changing Major Runes from -50 health to -35 health was a great benefit to those that may now consider using Major Runes in their build templates.
But where the concept fails is that existing Major Runes were unaffected by this change. They still exhibit -50 health penalty, and the Rune Trader's refuse to purchase them, rendering these Runes useless and only worth 25g to a regular vendor.
Some guilds, like mine stored certain Runes for their guild members when they had a need of them. Minor runes were simply sold, Major and Superior were held for others to help them offset the gold cost for their build templates.
At this point, we have a character holding several Major Runes that can only sell them to regular merchant's at the cost of 25g. No one would want to take these runes with the old penalty, and rightfully so.
This has a direct impact to a guild economic system, and hinder's casual players who relied on the assistance of their guilds to help provide them with enjoyable game play.
A few suggestions that would correct the issue at hand:
1.) A temporary 'Old Major Runes' merchant that would buy back these runes at a competitive price, but not allow them to be sold to other players.
2.) Implement the code to allow the existing runes to be changed as well.
3.) A temporary 'Old Major Rune' barter merchant, who will trade in your old Major Runes for new ones of the same style.
I'm sure there are a few more suggestions that we could add, however the bottom line in this idea is the situation that the latest patch has put some of us into.
We're forced to get rid of our old Major Runes at a cost of 25g to a regular merchant. We would like to ask for a discussion about this, and invite ANet folks to entertain the thought of our suggestions to help rectify and satisfy those of us that are hindered by this.
I look forward to an open and positive discussion.
